  1. That's another thing. These guys clearly know what they're doing. I've never seen a Bills front office look SO competent, and agree with every trade or signing they've swung. The ONLY one that looked bad (and still looks not like a definite "win") is the Dareus trade. Yes, I know his contract was huge & not worth the production, but the box stats never reflected how important he was to the team & the run defense in particular. He also allowed others on the line to play to a much higher level, and considering what we got for Tyrod, it's hard to imagine we couldn't get more than a 6th round pick (and not an early 6th either). Yes, Tyrod is a QB, and that's a huge factor as to why we netted a 3rd (practically a 2nd) for him. But every team knew he was on his way out, and that we only picked up his next year contract to trade him. So other than the Dareus trade, everything from last year's trade out of the 10th slot to get another 1st in 2018, to drafting Tre White, to entirely revamping the secondary, to getting value from Watkins, to moving up to 12th with Glenn, picking up Vontae Davis, now getting Lotulelei, etc. it's safe to say they know wtf they're doing....and whatever QB they want is going to be damn good if developed right & put in a GOOD system for him to succeed.
  2. Now we just need to sign Suh & D-line fixed lol
  3. Bingo! They try to "play it safe" year after year by just dismissing everyone. Those are the same people who check & fold on every poker hand until they have a guaranteed flush. Everything doesn't have to be a flush to be good or even great. There are guys almost every single year that come in & show everyone how wrong they were. Teams that hit on a QB either get really lucky, or they take a risk. Sitting back year after year & saying "wait until next year when _________ comes out" only for that year to come & then get cold feet is ridiculous.
  4. Most teams are lucky to have 1 stud receiver... 2 stud receivers? There just aren't many of those tandems anymore, but yeah, it'd be cool to have as long as they had someone decent throwing to them.
  5. Darnold is the highest rated QB via NFL.com's draft profile's by a significant margin this year, and I'm in love with the Bills being in love with Darnold
  6. People who are now acting like there are no worthy QB's in this year's draft are insane. The 2018 QB class is just as good, if not better than any in the last 5+ years Hindsight is 20/20, and going into each year's draft every QB had question marks. For reference, NFL.com's draft grades are Rosen - 6.19, Mayfield - 6.03, and Darnold - 7.0. In 2017, we had - Trubisky (6.31), Mahomes (5.87), Watson (5.98) & Kizer (5.78). Yes, Watson lit it up, but he was selected #12, as many teams didn't believe in him. There was not a "sure thing" in this draft. In 2016, we had - Jared Goff (6.51), Carson Wentz (6.53) & Paxton Lynch (6.17). Both Goff & Wentz had plenty of red flags, just look at pre-draft & post draft grades on players. Goff was said to be a "C-" and "has shown absolutely no signs that he can be a professional QB" by Walter Football. PFF said Wentz has "concerns with timing, accuracy, and ability to make plays under pressure." Again, no "sure thing," in this draft. In 2015, we had - Jameis Winston (6.7) & Marcus Mariota (6.27). They've both been up & down in the NFL, and both have been a mixed bag of success & failure. Yup, no "sure thing" once again. In 2014, we had - Blake Bortles (6.22), Johnny Manziel (6.12), and Teddy Bridgewater (6.15). Bortles has been pretty bad until this year, Manziel was a train wreck, and Bridgewater still hasn't done anything. Aaaand again, don't see a "sure thing" here. In 2013, we had EJ Manuel....That's it for 1st round QB's. Yup, what a mistake it was to grab a QB in THIS draft. Point being, EVERY year there's 0 guarantees, and at some point you have to take a guy. Everyone has question marks, and everyone can be boom or bust. All of these guys including the 3 listed for 2018 are graded in the same range. What matters is selecting YOUR guy, and sticking by & developing them correctly. There will almost certainly be at least ONE hit QB this year, & the Bills are looking to be that team. Going into last draft, everyone said "just wait until 2018 to grab a QB, that'll be a loaded draft!" Now as the 2018 draft looms closer, fans get their typical cold feet (fortunately, they aren't the ones in charge) and comment to "wait until next draft!" Kicking the can down the road year after year is an exercise in stupidity. If they end up drafting the next Wentz or Watson, the trade up is worth it. If they grab the next Manziel, Bortles or Lynch, it was a failure. If they grab the next Mariotta or Winston, they could be right in the middle. Either way, this draft is as good as any, and Andrew Luck's only come around once in a blue moon. Waiting for the stars to align to get someone like that isn't feasible, and is part of the reason it took 18 years & Andy Dalton to get them to the playoffs. I'd love to see the Bills get Darnold, although I still find it unlikely. However, each passing day it seems more & more possible with the moves Beane & Co. are making, so I'm not dismissing the idea anymore. Whoever they grab, I just hope they do it with the intention of letting them work out their issues, play through their mistakes & put them in a position to succeed instead of destroying their confidence & stifling their development.
  7. Perhaps, but putting in the legwork now allows them to see who is a realistic trade partner and what their baseline demands are.
  8. Wheeling and dealing! Loving every trade so far, and today just solidifies we ARE getting the QB we want this draft. No doubt about it. If Beane likes one guy in specific, expect him to move heaven and hell to acquire him.
  9. I picked Rudolph, only because I would hate the Bills drafting him, therefore they're definitely drafting him.
  10. Yeah, and cut our long snapper too... you know those are in cahoots together, those scheming f***s! Would've been smooth sailing to the Super Bowl if it weren't for those 2 *punting* the game away!
  11. No standout QB? Wtf are you talking about? There are no guarantees in the draft, yet every year you have QBs that rise to the top. This year is better than most, that's for sure. Fans that think "wait until next year!" every year while watching the team go 18 years with no playoffs are ridiculous. You mention Manning, he wasn't a sure thing, or else why was there so many "experts" and teams wanting Leaf? Newton was better than others in his class, but not nearly as good as other less hyped QBs over the years. Aaron Rodgers, Drew Bread, Philip Rivers, Eli Manning, Big Ben etc all came out with less hype and have had better careers than Newton. Wentz and Goff weren't sure things, yet look what they did. Russell Wilson and Derek Carr went after the 3rd round, yet 1 has won a SB, and the other has been better than anything the Bills have had since Kelly. Rosen, Darnold and Mayfield have been more highly touted than most of the guys mentioned above, and yet you'd want to wait year after year after year after year, kicking the can down the street hoping the stars align and some gift from the heavens falls into our lap. It rarely works that way, and in the past 10 years, the closest thing to a sure-thing has been Andrew Luck, and look what he's done lately. Point being waiting for some god-send is not a successful way to build a franchise. It is a good way of going another 18 years without playoffs though. Bingo! That's the problem with always waiting, sometimes you're stuck with a crappy hand year after year (like the year we drafted EJ Manuel) and missed your chance at legitimate talent. This year there are actual good prospects, some of the most promising in years, so waiting for a year better than this could be a looooong time away.
  12. I'm pretty sure he only started 2 games for the Pats. At least McCarron basically won a playoff game for the Bengals until the penalty after penalty fiasco by the idiotic defense at the end of the game. That was more impressive than Jimmy G's starting resume.
  13. If our coaches had faith they could implement a system similar to the one the Eagles ran, sure, go for him. But if they're going to run him like Jeff Fisher did, don't even bother (same can be said for Case Keenum, except Foles is better).
  14. Thanks Tyrod and good luck! Though I soured on him as a QB, I've always liked & respected him as a person. Best of luck going forward, unfortunately it's with the Browns. Hope you end up doing SOMETHING for that franchise.
  15. Well, looks like I was right Also, didn't mean to quote you specifically, just saying they did just what I figured they'd do, and almost got a 2nd rounder for him (first pick of 3rd round).
  16. This doesn't mean anything on whether or not the Bills are going to keep him. If they pay the $6 million, he's much easier to trade. Not only that, but his contract is so cheap for the position that it's not a huge hit to them if they have to eat some money. $10 million for a serviceable but mediocre starter with "potential" and/or a quality backup at the QB position is good value that other teams would likely be interested in. This is actually smart if the Bills hope to get something in return for him.
  17. Well it worked out. Happy for Nick Foles too. The guy didn't just come in and skate by on the back of Defense & ST, he played extremely well, won 2 playoff games, then won the Super Bowl and was the MVP. Sucks for Wentz though... There's no guarantee they'll ever get back to the SB again, and as much as he can say he helped lead them there, he didn't have any involvement in their playoff wins or their SB victory. Nick Foles & co. brought the Eagles their first SB win in franchise history, so he gets the credit. Just really happy for Foles, as I thought he was horribly used in St. Louis (who wasn't under Fisher?), and didn't get a shot in KC. He has legit talent, and outplayed Brady regardless of stats. The only INT he had was due to the receiver practically throwing it to a Pats DB. Hell, Foles even had a TD reception, and now sits alone with a SB record all to himself as the only QB ever to have a TD reception in the big game lol. I'd be so happy to have a record like that all to myself.
  18. I can see them doing that too... But it just smells like the painful 2004 Draft all over again. The top 3 QB's go before we pick, then the Bills have their pick of the scraps & hope for a miracle. Instead of getting Eli Manning, Big Ben or Rivers, we got JP Losman (and coincidentally at #22 like we have this year) as our 1st rounder. This year, Darnold, Rosen & Mayfield will be gone, so we'll likely get to pick from Rudolph, Jackson & possibly Allen (yuck)....
  19. If you find a guy you are confident will be your franchise QB, you should do everything in your power to get him. It's the NFL. You're ALWAYS going to have multiple holes to fill. Simply saying "we have holes ____, _____, and _____," does not mean "fill those spots, then get a QB some other time!" We've tried that...we've been trying that for 18 years. It's not a very good strategy. Can you luck out & make the playoffs from time to time? Sure. But consistently? Very unlikely. Even when you try to plug those holes, more will open up the following season. Rookie contracts expire, free agency happens, injuries, retirement, etc. will all continue the cycle of "we have more holes to fill!" And just as with the QB position, rookies in those various other spots aren't guaranteed to be great, nor are they even guaranteed to be productive starters. So spinning your wheels on the QB position time & time again will not yield great results. This regime HAS to find their guy and work towards developing him. And unless they're aiming to make a big splash in FA (which is the opposite of what they said they'd do), the only other option is the draft. And every year as it gets closer to draft time, you hear the same cliche chatter about how "this year's QB class isn't that good, wait until next year when ____ & _____ come out!" At some point you have to stop "waiting for next year" and take a shot. If not, you get to the point where you're so desperate, and you're forced to reach for someone like EJ Manuel in an actually terrible QB class. Nearly every year there are a couple players who do become franchise QB's...the Bills need to be decisive & find that player.
  20. What I'm curious about is how the Bills are able to keep up with the rise in cap each year... I mean we're a small market, and the most recent lists have us as the least valued team in the NFL (and bottom 3 in revenue), so how do we manage to stay competitive financially? And in a few more years of the cap increases, it'll start to surpass our total revenue each year... Plus, I'm not sure the exact number, but I know NFL teams have to spend a minimum amount of money (which also increases yearly), sooo... Unless revenue sharing increases quite a bit, it's a bit concerning. I'm sure there's something that'll help them out, but at some point the League isn't going to want to carry small teams that aren't able to create their own profit.
  21. I highly doubt this would ever happen, but I would be ecstatic if it were true. The dumpster fire the Pats would become would be delicious! They've prided themselves on using no-names in their system for so long, that to lose Brady and the mastermind behind it all, Belichick, would cripple that team's competitive ability for years. And trading away Jimmy G on top of it? Man, they'd just nose dive next season...It'd be glorious!
  22. I'd rather it be a highly drafted rookie that we decided to take our bumps & bruises with. If not, then some veteran FA with upside (preferably from the Vikings). Dead last choice would be Tyrod. I'd rather see if Peterman improved in the offseason over seeing Tyrod do exactly what he's always done.
  23. That's just weird... Buffalo was ranked 14th in passing defense while the Texans were ranked 24th. In 2014 when Butler started with the Texans, they were ranked 2nd overall, so that's great (might have more to do with them getting pressure on the opposing QB's though). In 2015, the Texans passing defense was again 2nd overall In 2016, they were also ranked 2nd. So maybe the dramatic dropoff had something to do with the Texans firing him, and perhaps McDermott believes Butler can tap into the potential of our roster better to get us towards those passing rankings.
  24. This is a bummer no matter how you look at it. Even though he had 9 years, it still feels really early. Kinda like Aaron Schobel or Brad Butler (although not as soon as Butler). Talented players who could've definitely continued to make an impact but for whatever reason retired early.
  25. But that assumes that there has to be at least SOME trust to begin with if you can pick one to trust over another. I guess I'd trust all of them more than Bernie Madoff. That's all I know lol.
