A few random thoughts about the Saints Game - Please share yours as well
Mango replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
I know I know we scored 30. But sitting up high around mid field, I thought some of the decision make was not great yesterday. Some of that was play call/play design, some was Allen trying to force some things. A number of very low percentage throws when there were other options to leave us with 3rd and manageable or even convert 3rd downs. Allen is still MVP of this team and without him we lose the game. -
Is this gonna be another thread that devolves into a fire everyone rant??? lol,

Game week thread - Pats at Bills SNF
HereComesTheReignAgain replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Bills are undefeated and the Pats* are .500 with one loss against a 1 win team. The Bills have won all their games by at least 10 points except for the opener against the Ravens. The Pats* are not anywhere near as good as the Bills and all this fear and apprehension for the upcoming game makes no sense. -
Evaulation (of this team) after a quarter of season gone
mjt328 replied to ganesh's topic in The Stadium Wall
My evaluation after a quarter of the season... The offense is scoring 33.3 ppg (#2 in the NFL), has put up 30+ in every game, and only has one turnover. Yet it somehow feels like they are still leaving plenty of meat on the bone. Joe Brady's calling has been pretty conservative, outside of the 4th Quarter of the Ravens game. We basically ran out the second half with backups against the Jets. There have been stretches of sloppy play with drops and penalties killing drives. It's crazy to think that Josh Allen has quite possibly been the best QB in the NFL so far, and it almost seems like he's holding back. James Cook has quite possibly been the best RB in the NFL, and there have been a half-dozen shoestring tackles where he's almost broken long touchdown runs. If this group can start hitting on all cylinders, no scoring record is safe. The defense has been the complete opposite. They have been awful in all phases of the game, and if not for a couple important game-saving turnovers (Derrick Henry fumble, Terrell Bernard pick, Cole Bishop one-handed INT), things could somehow be much worse. Some want to blame it on injuries or rookies, but even our dependable veterans are looking like garbage. Our number-one focus in the offseason was upgrading the D-Line, and it's been a massive disappointment in every way. Every QB has 3-4 seconds to throw. Joey Bosa is the only one getting the occasional pressure, and he offsets it by constantly losing outside contain and letting up a bigger play. Against the run, they are getting blown off the ball and filling the wrong gaps. Tackling has been about the worst I've ever witnessed on a Bills team, and that's really saying something. Slow to the ball. Getting run over and pushed backwards. Whiffing and getting juked in the open field. Falling off ballcarriers. It almost looks like a team tired of injuries and trying to preserve itself for the postseason. Coverage has also been bad. The secondary seems confused before the snap. They are giving too much space to receivers off the line, and then leaving guys wide open. The times they have been in position, they can't knock the ball away. Even Christian Benford looks lost out there. Bottom line, we are probably looking at the best Offense during the Josh Allen-era... combined with the worst Defense during the Josh Allen-era. Yes, that has resulted in a 4-0 record so far. But much of that is due to the cupcake schedule we were fortunate to pull. We have all seen other teams roll through the regular season with 14 or 15 wins (see Chiefs/Vikings last year), knowing they really weren't as good as the standing showed. I don't want to be that team. The Bills staff needs to be working overtime to figure out what is wrong with this defense. Is it the personnel? Is it the scheme? Is it the coaching staff? We still have some time before the trade deadline to make a move. We could still pull a Ken Dorsey on Bobby Babich. What we can't do is be overconfident because of the record and then ignore the glaring flaws staring us in the face. -
Brady had a Daboll like brain cramp on the Shikir running play on 4th down. Brought back memories........of Daboll.

I don't know there is more "opening up" on offense people are expecting, unless you are talking about letting Josh sling the ball all over the place like the late 4th quarter Ravens game where we are desperate to catch up. I don't care for offense "flare" but I do agree it lacks creativity now under Brady. We can all agree Joe Brady is not someone of McVay or Ben Johnson class where there are innovative designs, IDing defense calls (not Patriots style of stealing signs illegally). Innovation means something new to take advantage of specific player/talent, call sequences etc. It looked like we are focusing on execution and key guys like Cook, Allen are really executing consistently on a high level. I will point out that Allen seemed to have moved into this high level execution level (yesterday might be his worst game from execution standpoint), which is NOT people quite expected, even after his breakout season of 2020. To execute 10, 15 plays on offense to score TDs consistently is HARD. In fact many defenses, including our own McDermott, build defensive philosophy around forcing offenses to execute play after play and eventually there is a mistake to be capitalized on. So far we are doing it. Allen, like Mahomes, uses his special traits to work out the occasional negative plays along the way.

Our defense is lacking because the of what players are told to do with in a scheme that needs everything to go perfectly for it to work as designed, I know that this may come as a surprise to some, but it’s not working, and frankly a scheme change / modification has been needed for several years now, lol. oh well, I will continue to hope for the best outcomes, 👍 4-0 stack those wins boys! GO BILLS!!!

A majority of Bills fans aren't complaining about the Bills winning. I'm not sure that a majority of posters on TSW are complaining, although there's a significant of segment of complainers and/or whiners whose constant noise makes it seem that there's more complainers than there really are. Well said, sir. The Ravens are actually giving up 406.75 yards and only 33.25 points per game but who's quibbling? Don't confuse the endless negative narratives with facts. The Bills suck on defense!!! We're doomed!!!!! //sarcasm -
And Ed Oliver is the driver, yeah? Don't switch up in a year or two if Jackson comes on strong.

Barnwell reports today that the 2024 Ravens which the Bills eliminated were a statistical outlier in terms of health. The third healthiest of any NFL over the last 14 seasons. In other words they were an above average team that was historically healthy in 2024. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/46413984/2025-nfl-week-4-baltimore-ravens-whats-wrong-offense-defense-injuries-lamar-jackson -

Your last point here is the truth. The Bills broke the Ravens and the Lions finished the job last week. We tend to treat these guys like Madden players, who have a rating and always play up to that rating. But these are human beings, with all the emotional baggage that comes with that. The Best Roster in the NFL™ just looks defeated, and Harbaugh is in danger of losing the locker room. Another point; John Harbaugh's background is as a special teams coach. This means that he's a manager who has little to do with scheme on either side of the ball and is therefore dependent on coordinators more than most coaches. When they lose a coordinator to a HC job, they end up installing a whole new system which can necessitate personnel changes. This happens every couple of years. -
Thats it lol... yeah, I was fine with this contract for this money... I was balking at 15mm... i wouldnt balk anymore at 15mm we got a good deal... just sayin.. lol

The Worthy Trade Keeps Looking Worse and Worse
RobbRiddick replied to Bills Costa Rica's topic in The Stadium Wall
The thing I hate about this discussion is, every time Worthy gets injured or drops a pass or fumbles we get the "haha, see, we were right to let them have the pick, Coleman is better", then every time he makes any kind of catch the other group come here talking about how he's the greatest wideout alive. -

So KC shouldn’t trade with us either…. we wanted a 3rd round pick. They gave it to us. It’s a two way street -
I’m not a big “officiating” guy but thought about this a little and tried to post it in the game thread. After tonight, there will have been 64 NFL games played this year. That Bills/Saints game was the largest point spread of the season to this point. So, hat game was considered the most lopsided game of the year, on paper. What level of officiating crew do you think gets assigned to the Saints/Bills at a 1:00 PM on a Sunday? I promise you, it’s not the same crew that works the Super Bowl. We have been spoiled over the last few years as we are often playing high profile games. That means we generally get the top guys. I know that they missed the spot in KC (twice) but usually the games are pretty well officiated. Yesterday, we got to see what it must look like for the Titans and Colts on a crisp November afternoon.

I've criticized Van Demark a few times, so I feel obligated to point out that his overall game apparently was much better than it seemed live. He lost a couple pass protection reps but apparently was excellent as a run defender: PFF reinforces this - they gave Van Demark the 2nd highest grade on offense for this game. Overall rating of 79.0, 68.6 in pass blocking and 82.0 in run blocking.

A less panicky form of disappointing. He has not progressed at all since his freshman year.

The Worthy Trade Keeps Looking Worse and Worse

Bottom line, we should have taken Worthy even with the injury risk he could have given us that element we’ve been missing ever since John Brown left. However, our guy is ok he’s not a complete bust and should continue to get better. -
