Our best chance to win it was while he was still on his rookie deal and we could afford some good weapons around him. Is the issue now that we can't have our cake and eat it?

 

Having this elite qb means we have to pay him elite money and we simply can't afford to surround him with elite offensive weapons unless we draft them well. And we seem to either keep picking the wrong guy (Coleman) or drafting defensive players.

 

I'm not convinced this front office and coach is at an elite enough level to build a roster around a qb on top money.

2023 should’ve been the year.

 

- Cook had his breakout year

- Diggs, Davis, Kincaid, Shakir, and Knox catching passes

- Dawkins, McGovern, Morse, Torrence, and Brown (breakout year) on the OL

- Defense was #4 in the league

- Leonard Floyd had the most sacks by a Bills player in the McBeane era

- Benford breakout year and Rasul playing great after trading for him

- Taron 2nd team all-pro and Bernard breakout year

- Ended the regular season on a 5 game win streak (3 playoff teams)

- Homefield advantage over the Chiefs

 

If McD couldn’t get it done with that team he’s never gonna get it done

If it was going to happen with McDermott, it would’ve by now.

 

I don’t think the window ever closes on Josh, atleast not for the next 7-8 years. However if the Pegulas are content with Beane and McDermott running the show like the Fish were with Shula, then unfortunately he’s gonna go down as this generations Marino unless he pushes his way out of here.

Atleast when the Fish were wasting Dan Marino’s Hall of Fame career with Shula, even though the game started passing him by, Don atleast had a career accomplishment or two to hang his hat on.

Sean McDermott is supposed to be a defensive guru who year after year turns out mediocre to bad defenses. And year after year, no matter how good the Bills have been he’s seemingly never in the conversation for “coach of the year”, which speaks volumes… I honestly don’t understand what we are doing here anymore, but this thing ran its course a few years ago. We have now entered the “exercise in futility” stage of McDermott’s tenure here in Buffalo.

McDermott and most coaches needed to be replaced.  Bean may as well.  We can’t tackle, we lack fundamentals, any we are undersized at a few positions.  We is a joke.

Josh is by my eye playing as well as ever this year. 

 

I believe that with better offensive coaching this could be the number 1 offense in football.

 

Cook all day and on third and fourth downs. Do not sit him for Ty Johnson on any important down.

 

More blitz beaters and players taught to recognize the blitz and adjust their routes.

 

Decent playbook for must have plays, rather than the crap we've been running. Never run end arounds on short yardage. 

 

Execute good screens without holding (all well-coached teams can do this).

 

Playcalling with Rhythm, that keeps defenses guessing, instead of arrogant repetition.

Not too late and I believe there's still a 3-4 year window after this season, I do believe Terry may need to make some tough decisions and changes soon.

 

My primary concerns revolve around two key individuals:

 

* **Brandon Beane:** He has a tendency to overpay fringe players. Furthermore, despite his promise to find a replacement for Diggs after the trade, we still lack an elite receiver after two drafts. He's also drafted numerous slow and undersized defensive players and has consistently avoided using a top pick on an elite wide receiver since Allen arrived. Even the Diggs trade doesn't look great when considering the Vikings drafted Jefferson with that pick, and we passed on opportunities to draft players like Brown and Metcalf. As for roster construction,  he has invested heavily in defense, yet the performance remains subpar year after year

 

* **Sean McDermott:** He insists on promoting offensive and defensive coordinators from within, seemingly to maintain influence over play-calling. The offense changed significantly after Daboll left because McDermott, who doesn't prioritize a pass-first approach, still doesn't seem to grasp that this is a passing league. While a conservative, short-passing game worked last season against average defenses, it's now predictable, with teams ignoring the deep threat because we lack elite receivers. So see more teams playing closer to the line to counter all of these passes behind the line when you have a QB who may have the strongest arm ever. 

 

I believe the Bills should hire an offensive-minded Head Coach who would then bring in a prominent defensive coordinator, allowing that coordinator to manage the defense effectively. Comparing Andy Reid's situation to McDermott's isn't accurate; Reid is an offensive genius who hired a master defensive coordinator in Kansas City. Reid actually fired McDermott in Philadelphia because McDermott couldn't get the job done defensively. McDermott is a suitable Head Coach for a team aiming to reach the playoffs, but perhaps not one looking to win a Super Bowl.

 

Ultimately, I think at least one of these two individuals needs to move on before it's too late. I'd be comfortable with a new GM who would mandate McDermott hire a high-profile defensive coordinator or depart, or with letting McDermott go and hiring an offensive-minded Head Coach.

 

To sum things up,  its not always a good thing when you have a GM and HC who are buddy buddy,  thus my reason to replace one of the two

the rookie deal is the easiest. 
 

I have a hard time saying they couldn’t then, but will now. 
 

from there it’s hitting big on a couple draft classes. Having a DT, WR and CB play lights out on rookie deals is similar. Our last two drafts have too many misses so far.
