Poyer has taken Hamlin's role as the backup SS, behind Rapp. Hancock, the rookie, is the backup FS. Poyer is not taking a young player's role, and the only way he's getting snaps on defense tonight is if Rapp gets hurt. Did you want them to play a game without a backup at that spot just so you wouldn't have to see Poyer standing on the sidelines? Or would you rather they sign Vonn Bell off the street, who couldn't crack the lineup as even a PS player in Cincinnati? But hey, at least he hasn;t been tainted by ever wearing a Bills helmet.

Also, who is the magical athletic rookie that they are currently playing a vet over? Landon Jackson? Walker is playing most of the snaps. Sanders was playing until his injury. We have two rookie DBs on IR, one of whom was getting snaps despite being a low-round pick. Some people want to blame Beane for injuries. If injuries are the fault of the GM and are a fireable offense, then Brad Holmes (Lions GM), Eric DeCosta (Ravens GM), and John Lynch (49ers GM) should be taken out back and shot. Some teams have been incredibly lucky with injuries so far, and others have been decimated. The Bills are sort of in the middle of that continuum.

so then do you trot out liabilities and hope for the best? That's a big gamble when our "Window" is open. I know Beane values draft capital more than anything for the future of this team but tell me a time when we were closer to a championship then this season in the last 25 years. He should be doing anything and everything to get capable DBs in here now and that includes trading picks. Worry about getting us a championship now while it is attainable. Most teams won't get closer than we are now. Trade for help right now and F the street free agents/waiver wire.

This is not acceptable. You have a unicorn at QB in his prime, and you can't even field a moderately good defense. I thought our coach is a defensive genius?

Bills defense is ranked #9 in total yardage, despite a cascade of injuries.

At the start of the season it was, it’s only practice squad. Here we are 🤷🏼‍♂️

8 years with a defensive minded HC and this is where we are with the D. Brutal

So what?

All that matters is 17th in points against---versus opponents featuring 1 winning record (NE after they beat the Bills) among them.

The Bills O is first in time of possession. That helps

This soft AF defense and McDermott’s stubbornness about his precious (system ) is why Andy Reid fired him. He has tunnel vision when it comes to players, always choosing system guys over athletes. We need a new safety. Rapp is crapp. Bring one in, coach him up and live with it. Darrick Forrest is on Indy’s practice squad, I’m sure there are others.

I don't expect that Poyer is going to suddenly start playing like the Jordan Poyer of 5-6 years ago.  I do expect the Bills to sign hin to the 53 man roster and take Hamlin's backup snaps.  Barring injury, that will probably be 2 or 3 snaps in a game.

With the way Rapp has played this year, I am open to any and all ideas.  I know many thought Bishop would be the weak link back there, but he has actually been getting better each week he plays.  It was never a question of whether he could do it physically, but rather with his "want to" and "desire" because he has all the physical tools you would want in a safety.  And he's shown that he is going into the role.

On the other hand, I think "Rapp has the "want to" and "desire" but for whatever reason, has physically fallen off a cliff.  He wasn't the most athletic guy to begin with, but this year he looks like he is running with cement shoes on, taking bad angles, missing tackles, and still injuring our own guys.  He's been a mess more often than not back there.

So, I am open to any and all options back there.  You want to try Hancock?  Fine with me!  Want to try Poyer?  Sure, why not.  He may have the exact same physical limitations when it comes to speed and angles, but I think he is a smarter, more instinctive player.  Ideally you figure something out in the next couple games before the trade deadline, but knowing them, especially McDermott, he'll keep rolling Rapp out there because he likes his leadership.

While I agree we need a DB badly, this is not a catastrophe.  Poyer is simply a break in case of emergency.  Besides whether today or not Oliver is coming back, and after tonight, we have Ogunjobi and Hoecht.  Patience Dania-San.  We win tonight, we go into the bye with replacements and a week off.  People get healthier, and probably better.

We do need Moore, Samuel, and Palmer much more involved.  It’s a mistake to keep pushing the issue with 00.  He’s limited.  He has a place, but our speed and separation is sitting on the bench.

I saw he was questionable with neck, ribs and something else... shoulder?  Im more irritated about that than I even am about Poyer.

Those 2 have a combined 13 tackles and 1 sack this season-yeah, they’re really crushing it

I believe I saw Settle was leading league in pressures, or something similar

Also , all that draft capital hasn’t amounted to much in recent years. For a guy that hasn’t hit on a ton of draft picks, adding good players now should be a priority.

They had three rough quarters against the Ravens. Other than that, they've been "moderately good", especially considering the injuries. I understand that it's discounted by playing bad teams.  Also, I want a better defense and I share the same concerns as everyone else regarding the unit's ability (or likely inability) to win a Super Bowl. I just don't agree with some of the takes inferring they've been egregiously bad. I've seen a lot of kneejerk reactions to Sunday and I'm pushing back against them.

Now, if they get torched tonight, I'll consider joining the chorus of panic button pushers.

Just hard to believe that, in this year where there is no clear Super Bowl favorite, we can't get our ***** together.

Where did I (or anyone) say they were "egregiously bad"?  I pointed out that yards allowed is not a useful stat.  They rank 22nd, 19th and 18th in 3rd D conversions, 4th down conversions and RED Zone TDs.

I don't think he plays until the cupboard is completely bare, and even then I think they might sooner sign or trade for someone else.  I just don't think either party signed with the intent of him ever playing.

That said, if I'm wrong and he's ready and willing, I wouldn't mind giving it a shot!

Jordan is only 34 years of age and NOT injured at all.  Let's get him on the field to join the old-timers reunion with Tre White, Baylon Spector, Matt Milano and Jordan Phillips.

They all know the "system" even if they can't run or tackle well anymore.  What a mess!!

When is Cole Beasley coming back ?

LOL.  He was DC for Reid for 2 seasons.  He was not in charge of acquiring personnel.

He was a young brand-new DC who was looking for a system.

You tell me who McDermott was "sitting" as a great athlete over his "system" guys back in 2009.

Once again, LOL.

Rapp is 15 pounds heavier than the faster Poyer.  Rapp had a very good run defense grade in 2024, but has regressed this season.  Robinson [RB] and Pitts [TE] are both decent players and will be a handful for our LB's & S's

Who was the clear Super Bowl favorite last year?
