To me, Hawes looks like the most complete TE on the roster and just might be the best of the bunch over the long haul. I think he's already better than Knox, and given more opportunities, he might be able to move Kincaid to more of a niche role.

The Bills didn't run the 3 TE sets too much in the game, and it seemed to me there was a lot of Kincaid and Hawes in the 2 TE sets.

Hawes comp seems to be a Knox who can actually catch the ball when thrown to him.

If Hawes continues to develop above expectations, there is a high chance Knox will be a Cap Casualty in the Off-season...... let's enjoy the 3 TE sets while they last.....

Let’s give the man a season under his belt before we go kicking him off the team! I would never just release him, he’s too good a player. We could probably get a 3rd or 4th for him in a trade. I would even inquire about a safety or a CB for him.

Yes.  Hawes needs to be sure handed with his opportunities but so far so good.  Kincaid has leveled up as a blocker.  I would like to see Kincaid get more snaps compared to the 50 ish percent he is currently at.

They have three very good TEs. Hawes is a super upgraded version of Lee Smith. He can not run the routes Knox does. Knox needs to take a paycut next year. Beane has usually found ways to get that to happen.

They need the 2026 draft for linebackers, safeties, corners, wr, and more edge rushers in no particular order. It would be foolish to not bring him back. Too many holes to fill elsewhere.

What's interesting is that Knox's and Hawes' predraft measurables are nearly identical with the obvious difference being that Knox ran a 4.59 and Hawes ran a 4.82. Other than that, their height, weight, vertical, broad jump, 10-yard split, and bench press are almost identical... all within 1% of each other.

Knox doesn't stretch the field in any discernible way and Hawes was clearly an underrated receiver coming out... I see no reason that Hawes can't be a direct replacement for Knox some day.

Agreed about Knox not stretching the field.  Defenses don't have to worry about Knox running downfield routes because his hands are so suspect.

So a considerable, measureable speed difference that affects your ability to climb effectively to the 2nd level in run blocking, and ability to get open or stretch the field.  Knox has been an in-line blocker for a lot of plays, and then they'd rotate him off the LOS when doing 6-OL formations, but now they don't need to deal with the eligibility issues, and he can still function and play a hybrid role.

I think his hands have always been an issue at times, but the guys a load to tackle and has scored a ton of TD's in his tenure here.  I don't think he's worth his paycheck, but because we've never paid a free agent tight end, it isn't a position that's so expensive that its hamstrung the teams ability to do things.

Josh trusts Dawson.  Together, they have made many, many great plays.  Dawson has had Josh’s back since 2019.  They have enjoyed all of the Bills amazing run the 6 years together.

I challenge this perception. What we know is that Knox and Allen are buddies. But there is little chance that Allen the QB trusts Knox the TE as a reliable pass catcher. And, to use a cliche, it is a business and Beane won't continue paying Knox at this level as payback for Knox being Allen's buddy.

As fans, we can only be excited to see a young , lower round pick to look so promising early in his career

With Knox's cap number for next year, he will likely be a cap casualty with or without Hawes.

I think it’s very likely that he restructures, again, to stay around.

I don't think he'll be cut.

He's still a $7.4 million dead cap hit. I think they offer him roughly the dead cap money to stay on a one-year deal or restructure longer term, yet again, in the $5 to $7 million per year range.

I think the Bills will still pay him more than his production would warrant in FA because the team likes him and he's a culture fit, and pretty versatile especially if Kincaid goes down.

I'm loving Hawes but some people are misguided if they think he can do what Knox does. And yes, Knox, has some drops...

Beane will cut Knox and draft another TE low next year.  The beat goes on.

I've said this before, but don't undervalue the fact that Knox is best friends with Josh.  Knox will probably always be willing to take less money to stay here as well.

Allen has an awful lot of "Best Friends" for a dude. Matt Barkley, Dawson Knox, Tanner Gentry, etc.

Pick one, my man.

Actually Kincaid was the guy on the sidelines more than Knox against the Saints.  It was noticeable during the game.  Made me worry that he was injured.  I don't understand why Brady won't feature him.  He should be getting 8-10 targets a game.  He is a matchup nightmare.

Because we want our 2TE sets to block. Kincaid is barely running enough routes for 8-10 targets in some of these games.

We go pass heavy he will not be on the field. We go run heavy he will. He is a blocking TE. Yes, he will occasionally catch a pass. Any NFL TE can catch the ball. Lets not get ahead of ourselves because he has 4 catches in 4 games.

And Knox didn’t go to Yale.

By the way when Hoecht gets back the Bills will have two Ivy Leaguers, giving them one of the smartest roster in the league.
