We're using 4-3 as base defense more. We seem willing to rush more guys. We drafted a couple of DBs with man coverage skills in Hairston and Strong. We drafted interior rushing talent in Sanders and Walker. Some of this is just growing pains, but if we're looking for signs of optimism for Jan, I'd say it's the fact that we're at least willing to try other defensive alignments rather than dying with a zone once we play a QB good enough to carve us up. 2 2 Quote

That is exactly what this offense is missing to put them over the top. Didn't both Tom Brady and Mahomes prove you can with that WR, and you can still win without them? Besides, I kinda doubt Buffalo had the $$ for DK. 2 1 Quote

Forget the fact we are 4-0 and have scored 30+ every game. Life is short. Enjoy the win. It's just silly...Bills end up winning by 12, play their C- game and end up with 31 points. Sure, it wasn't their best game, but their best game wasn't required. 1 1 1 1 Quote

They would (like the Bills do now) get everyone's best punch. And still find a way to win. I don't mind teams getting "moral victories" against the Bills. I'll be happy with the win in our record. 2 1 Quote
NickelCity Posted Sunday at 09:15 PM Posted Sunday at 09:15 PM Hoecht and Hairston need to be legit....and honestly I still think we need someone to supplant Rapp. I don't think they'll give Hancock a chance but I'd like to see what happens. Quote

Much of those holding calls on our receivers blocking on the perimeter were just weak. Give the Aints some credit as they had more sideline to sideline speed than I gave them credit for and our quasi-bubble screen game and reverses were blown up quickly. The Bills went after their rookie DB Riley and he made plays when they needed them on pretty good Allen throws. We got away from our gap running game a bit I think to try to go up two scores and put a fork in them, but that took us away from Cook and the running game that was working and played into how they were dropping back into coverage and a surprisingly effective pass rush. I thought our pass pro was pretty weak this game and Van Demark had a rough game. There is a drop off from Spencer and for a kid that was coming on strong 2 years ago, you can see why he was getting beat out by Grable before Grable got injured and placed on IR. Defense has been lack-luster, kept the Saints in the game with some poor tackling and effort early. Gave up multiple 3rd downs and still struggle with stops in the red zone. They tightened things up down the stretch but still a long ways to go before they strike fear into any opponent. Allen's angry run seemed to wake the entire team up from what looked like a game they were sleep-walking thru. He is the inspirational leader and soul of this team without question. I wonder if McDermott called them "Overofficious jerks!" 🤣 1 Quote
Nihilarian Posted Sunday at 09:18 PM Posted Sunday at 09:18 PM All the hand-wringing going on, and Buffalo is #4 in points scored, #1 in yards, with one of the best running attacks in the league. The Buffalo Bills are not the Chargers, who just lost to the crappy NY Giants. The only other team that is 4-0 atm is the SB winning Eggels. Enjoy the win...if ya can. 3 1 Quote

How many penalties today, 11 or something like that? 11 for 55 yds. Of those, 5 were pre-snap penalties. 3 false start penalties (Dawkins, Ferguson, Edwards) 1 illegal shift on Palmer Defensive too many men on field (OUCH) Of interest: Reid Ferguson, who is usually solid AF, was called for a false start once and for offensive holding once. Given that Johnson was actually hit and hurt while punting, I have to wonder if someone on the NO side was jumping the gun and not being flagged for it, and Ferguson was trying to protect his guy. The Defensive too many men on field is bad Lots to clean up. 1 1 Quote

I think it's time to make a change to him to be honest. I love Tre, he's been one of my favorites on this team going back years. But he's not the same as he was. I'm sure he's great in the film room. There's definitely a spot on the team for him. But If I'm seeing someone make rookie mistakes and getting picked on a bit I would rather see it be the actual rookie. That way they can learn and get better. 2 Quote

Livinginthepast Posted Sunday at 09:22 PM Posted Sunday at 09:22 PM The one thing that I notice that the Bills D is consistently bad at throughout the McD era is confusing opposing opposing Qbs with their formations/looks. They make young Qbs look like seasoned vets (today was yet another example) and they make QBs who are mediocre or poor look like Tom Brady (Wentz and Trubisky for ex). This has been happening from Frazier to McD to Babich. Yes we have some big injuries but I think that the schemes and strategies that McD consistently employs put us in a worse position. When we had Poyer and Hyde playing at their peak and Milano at his best we had ball hawks who could make up for these deficiencies but those days are over. Bishops INT was exactly what we would get from those guys at least once a game. Not any more (unless Bishop has finally arrived). When you have experienced a Wade Philipps or Jim Schwartz defense, McD's just don't cut it. 4 3 1 Quote
