Only Bosa recorded a QB hit. Walker pressured a couple times as well, but overall the pass rush was anemic - even when Tua wasn’t getting the ball out fast. Felt like they were keepin a bunch of extra guys in to block and we were playin a bunch of contain in this one but I gotta rewatch to be sure. The discussion around injured olinemen always puzzles me a bit. Guys forced into the lineup are gonna be at their absolute worst the game they are forced in and with more reps they pretty much always improve over time. Communication/experience is at a premium with that group. I never really got why people expect these guys to remain as terrible as they looked the game they were forced in 1 Quote

Like they did when they ball washed Edmunds for years. I’m not anti-Groot, but for a guy who’s best move is to set the edge he really blew it in the AFC Championship when he drove inside several times and Mahomes made him pay with a TD and number of first downs. They are correct (the cover 1 guys) on Groot's play, at least through 2 games prior to last night. Contrary to popular belief, the cover 1 guys do actually call out poor play from lots of Bills players, but you'd actually have to watch to see that. Lots of parroting, and lots of comments from folks that probably should just reserve themselves to watching the guy with the ball in this thread, outside of a few like Simon and Happy days. Quote

In fact Epenesa makes more that Groot presently Then in 2027 his cap hit will be over $20 million, with an out available in the offseason 2028 Groot is an edge setter and a lane disruptor, and not a sack master. By the time he is making $20 million plus he will be considered cheap when compared to other top pass rushers, plus he will be a candidate for a restrucutred contract. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/rankings/player/_/year/2025/position/ed/sort/cap_total We do need to get more pressure on the opposing QB. Hopefully when our DL is healthy players come back from suspension as well as rookies stepping up can make that difference in the 2nd half of the season. I mean this is all correct, but that's not really fair play. If you wanna say "Well Rousseau's cap hit is low the first two years, then we pay for it later" that's fine, but the fact of the matter is that we should be comparing apples to apples. Micah Parsons' cap hit this year is $9M. His hit next year is $19M. Is Rousseau's contract still considered "cheap" when he costs only $12M less against the cap over the next two seasons? Quote

Knowing this, and knowing we were at home...night game...crowd noise...Bosa had just gone insane vs the Jets... I thought we were going to have a BIG game rushing Tua. I did notice some double teams upfront last night on 3rd downs that bought Tua some time and allowed the breakdowns in the secondary, but no question we are getting next to nothing from Groot and Sanders... They are just not taking advantage of almost any opportunities when they get them. One thing I paid close attention to on the Cover 1 all-22 breakdown of the Baltimore game is how the Bills D and it's attacking design really only flourishes when players beat their blocks AND make the tackle/sack. The Bills are mostly getting blocked, and even when they are not they are missing too much...getting up field too far, bouncing off ball carriers... It's just such a mixed bag right now... 1 Quote

Almost sounds like he wants Beane to find a veteran edge for the rotation? Epenesa + Samuel for an Edge from a non-contender? Edited September 19 by Warriorspikes51 Quote
paulmm3 Posted September 19 Posted September 19 I hope this isn't another Albert Haynesworth case where he gets paid and then gets fat and stops caring. But yeah Rousseau has been invisible through three games. Quote
MPL Posted September 19 Posted September 19 According to PFF Rousseau, Bosa, and Jones all led the team in pass rush pressures with 4 a piece. Also, half of Tua's passes were thrown behind the line of scrimmage. Not saying Rousseau doesn't need to better, and the pass rush as a whole was disappointing last night, but do with that what you will. Quote

And they had a lot of 3rd and longs / obvious passing situations. And still can’t bring down tua. Quote

Just saying that Rousseau had as many pressures as Bosa... according to PFF. Quote

Yea I wasn’t coming down on you. But the pressures stat , for me, has to result in tangible outcomes - pressure downs get off the field. I’m not sure all “pressures” as a stat are created equal 1 Quote

The disconnect between fans and pff over groot will continue this week too haha with Miami you absolutely have to sell out to stop the wide runs and that seemed like the huge focus You stop that right now mister. 1 Quote
