The emphasis is on “might.” Milano was playing well but he can’t stay healthy. I don’t think Bernard is very good (but he does have a nose for the football). Williams feels like he could take off if given the chance. I’m absolutely fine with him playing. This is probably the injury that the Bills can most easily survive. Agreed. Dorian went to Tulane - a good football school, but not near the level of coaching as powerhouse college teams. Sometimes players like these need NFL coaching and need to acclimate. I think he’s going to be a stud as he continues to play. He’s athletic as hell. 5 2 Quote
Royale with Cheese Posted September 16 Posted September 16 IMO, he's a guy that plays fast all the time and he will make a great play but then will be responsible for giving up a great play. He's too up and down to be a consistent starter. 1 Quote
frostbitmic Posted September 16 Posted September 16 Next man up .. He'll do alright, he'll make some plays and he'll miss on some plays, he's young and he'll learn as he goes. I think his main job Thursday night will be slowing down Achaine. 2 Quote
Coach Tuesday Posted September 16 Posted September 16 McDaniel shows linebackers all kinds of eye candy to suck them in or delay their drops, then Tua drops it in over their heads as they react late. Williams has been known to take the bait so hopefully his eye discipline has improved…. 2 1 Quote
CSBill Posted September 16 Posted September 16 I really don’t worry about him. His athleticism is needed in our D. He has his faults, but overall he has more positives than negatives. 2 Quote

I think with more playing time though, those mistakes will be fewer and fewer….like we’ve seen with some of our really good players on the roster. Quote

Sierra Foothills Posted September 16 Posted September 16 I LOVE Dorian's physicality and his attitude. When predicting his future, it's all in the context that Dorian: Is beginning his 3rd year Has played in 36 games Has started 15 games Has played 907 defensive snaps and 490 special teams snaps At the very least he'll be a great special teams player and capable backup linebacker. Will he take the next step? I couldn't tell you but I'm hopeful as hell. 1 Quote
BuffaloBillyG Posted September 16 Posted September 16 I'm in the minority I think in that I like what Williams brings to the table. Yes, he gets turned around a bit at times, but I don't think anyone on defense hustles to the ball as well as he does. If he isn't making a play he's close to it. 1 Quote

He actually had a pass defended, which may be the first one ever in his career. He also had my favorite play of the game. After he got called for roughing on the sideline while Benford was holding a guy up (the refs screwed up the number on the penalty) watch what he does on what I think was the very next snap; Babich sent him up the A-gap and I think it was Breece Hall that tried to pick him up. It did not go well for Breece. If you have access, it's worth finding that play just to watch what Williams does to him. > How long is Taron out? The Bills might be even more inclined to run more base nickel rather than try Andreesen or a hobbled Shaq Thompson in the 4-3 they've been messing around with the first couple weeks. > We're flirting with that situation with missing starters on every level of the defense again; you can get away with missing a guy here and there, but this stuff becomes exponentially harder to handle when it gets to be cumulative like this. You can do things defensively to hide soft spots, but those options become extremely limited as those soft spots multiply. > Thoughts? Only concern about Williams is that while he’s very athletic, he’ll often get faked out and be a step behind in coverage. I can see Mike McDaniel dialing up some misdirection and trying to feed Achane both as a runner and reciever Quote
DrDawkinstein Posted September 16 Posted September 16 I'm feeling glad we have Dolphins, Saints, Patriots the next 3 weeks. Quote
Steptide Posted September 16 Posted September 16 I think Williams is a really good backup to have. Could do much worse Imo. I thought he actually stood out in what was an ugly pre season for the bills (minus the final pre season game). I think he'll do fine. Obviously I'd rather Milano be playing, but I'll take Williams over aj Klein Quote

I can't remember if it was the 2020 season or the 2021 season when Milano got hurt and AJ Klein had to start... it was the season before AJ headed off into the sunset in his camper before abruptly having to turn around. The first game Klein was awful because they were expecting him to play the role Milano plays and he was physically incapable of doing that. Then they adjusted his responsibilities and he had a pretty significant impact playing the game he was suited to play. I hope they don't ask Williams to play Milano's game... he doesn't seem to have the football IQ to do that. I hope they simplify the game for him as best they can, point him in a direction and yell "git em!!!". Quote

Move Bernard to safety. He is 6'1 224 pounds. He has crazy good instincts but he's just too small. Only extension I had an issue with. Edmunds is the only player that had prototypical NFL size and speed that we have had at LB. He was just too stupid to learn the position. As for right now, honestly Milano is probably the most easily replaced player on the entire defense. Its not a slight on him. He's been OK but ever since he came back from injury he hasn't been any better than Williams was last year. 1 Quote
JP51 Posted September 16 Posted September 16 I gotta think at this point with Milano the kid is gonna need to show what he has got... Quote

Do you know what the definition of prototypical is? Quote
