Bills Fan in MD Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Prater made all the kicks he was expected to make, which is clearly something that Bass has struggled with lately. But let's see how it goes for more than one game, especially when it starts to get cold and windy. 2 1 Quote
BillsFanForever19 Posted September 8 Posted September 8 I said this earlier this week and it stands even more after a game winner in a game like that: If Prater stays perfect, they'd be insane to pull him. 1 Quote
Matt_In_NH Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Bass has always had a nervousness to him and he has a weird compact motion with little follow through. Yet he has a huge leg. I am fine rolling with prayer after today. Quote
HurlyBurly51 Posted September 8 Posted September 8 All I can say is that I was weirdly calm and confident on all his kicks tonight, while I would have been sweating bullets for those same kicks if Bass was kicking. 3 2 Quote
NeverOutNick Posted September 8 Posted September 8 I’ve always liked Prater in Detroit and Denver. He even looks like he’s been through some stuff and I like it lol. Bass on IR and let Prater keep it simple and easy. I’m on board Quote

Right? It was so stark relative to bass. Like an old wise obi wan kenobi vs an erratic anikin skywalker. We all know who won 1 Quote
LABILLBACKER Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Prater has had 5 seasons with a better fg% than any historical Bills kicker. Last year in a part time role he was 3/3 fg and 10/10 xtrp. Tonight he was 3/3 fg and 2/2 xtrp. Who knows whats going to happen later this season. But I'm happy Beane found Prater. 2 1 Quote
Charles Romes Posted September 8 Posted September 8 I think we put prater on the protected practice squad list until his call ups are used up after 4 games. Then he’ll need to be rostered. Quote
sven233 Posted September 8 Posted September 8 I never want to see injuries. And Bass has made a couple of great kicks for this team in the past. But man.....I don't need to see Bass kick for us again. Prater is not the long term answer, obviously. But what he is is a true professional. There's a reason he's over 40 and still kicking. He may not kick it as far as he used to. But I tell you what. When we signed him, I took a breath, and I never had a worry about him. I was confident that if we were able to keep his attempts under 45, they were going to go through. Maybe he can kick for us the rest of the season if contract situations allow it and then just find a different kicker next season. 2 Quote
GolfandBills Posted September 8 Posted September 8 What’s Praters range these days? I remember years ago he was very good from 50+ 1 Quote
hondo in seattle Posted September 8 Posted September 8 I admit that I was afraid of another much-scrutinized 13-second type ending when McD opted to run another play and then have the FG unit, with a new kicker, run the Fire Drill. Folks watching Sports Center later only saw a low-drama chip shot, but I was sweating bullets watching it live. 1 1 Quote
Nelius Posted September 8 Posted September 8 I’m with it I love the stone cold professionalism. Love Bass as a person but it’s just too much. Last thing you need is a nervous kicker. Give me ice cold Prater 3 Quote
gonzo1105 Posted September 8 Posted September 8 My only concern is how far can Prater still kick it. Obviously he’s a pros pro and will make a lot of kicks withing 40 and still will be good within 45 I’m sure I just question in this stadium as his leg gets worn, that he can be relied on to kick a 50+ yarder in the wind and snow. I realize Bass is all over the place at times but we know he can make it from 55 if need be late in the season Quote
HappyDays Posted September 8 Posted September 8 My only concern with him is he's 41 years old and that leg might die as the season goes along. That being said in the Allen era I've never felt more comfortable watching a kicker line up than I was with him tonight. That last kick I actually was extremely confident it was going through. With Bass I would have been waiting for it to hook wide right. I appreciate Bass' ability to hit the occasional 60 yarder but that is a rarely needed skill. Give me the guy that hits 100% of the <45 yarders and 90% of the 50 yarders. That's the more consistently important skill. 3 Quote
H2o Posted September 8 Posted September 8 (edited) Prater has been doing this for a LOOONG time. He's kicked in a SB. He doesn't get rattled like Bass. Edited September 8 by H2o 2 Quote
Georgia Bill Posted September 8 Posted September 8 I loved what he said at the end of the game when asked about how it felt to kick the game winner in that situation. Basically said "it's all about the team, they got me down there. All I do is swing a leg". Cool and composed and also humble. What's not to like? 2 Quote
