He definitely is. He can still play, I wouldn't call him washed. But dominant is not a word I'd use to describe him any more either.

Got me thinking in terms of a player like Dequan Jones...he's not able to dominate anymore and make plus plays regularly, but perhaps he's able to allow you to play a scheme and that has value as well (perhaps significant value).

Like if he's still able to anchor against double teams and not get pushed out of the hole, that then allows everyone else to play better because they're able to do what they need to do within the scheme and structure of the defense and then they can make plus plays because they are capable of making them within the structure of the play.

Like Bernard improved so much when he had Jones playing well and same with Oliver...not everyone can be Josh Allen or Aaron Donald and play outside of scheme and dominate, very few can, but there are many players that can be excellent within scheme and you need teammates that can maintain scheme to do that.

I guess that's a long way of saying maybe it doesn't matter so much if he's not playing at an elite level still, if he can allow them to be confident he can maintain his role within the scheme consistently.

My wife is telling me (I'm looking for some tweet or other validation) that she read on one of the sketchy Facebook groups that we are signing Peppers.

Honestly, it looks like Clark was an addition to the Parsons trade to make Dallas’ return look better than it really was. Clark was an outstanding DT - and he got paid like one. Then he had a poor 2024. GB ate most of his compensation this season so Dallas only owes him $3M. But starting in 2026 he’s on the books for over $20M each season. Either he returns to form or Dallas cuts him next offseason. So Dallas can say that they got two firsts and a Pro Bowl DT. But in reality they’re really only likely to get two late firsts and a one year rental on a DT who may not be what he was. Jerry can pretend to save face and GB gets a great deal on an All Pro pass rusher.

he was playing injured in 2024

He had bunion surgery. No other notably “injuries”.

It was the Brazil game wk1

Surface was questionable, hurt his foot or toe or something

It was his bunion that was bothering him. That’s not a joke.

Ok I thought it was an ankle or something

It was listed on injury reports as a “foot”  and it was aggravated by the crappy field there in Brazil so you were on point there.

A bunion is much more serious than it sounds and he probably has one on his other foot. My wife has looked into surgery for hers. It’s a long recovery. 6-12 months to get back to normal from what she was told. I’d think he is probably on the front end of that and he may be right this season. But there’s risk there that he won’t be.

A dominant DT would have been exactly what we needed, and if he was available, Beane should have pursued a trade. It seems he may have only been available in exchange for acquiring Parsons. Does anyone know if there were any rumors about his availability before the trade for Parsons?

He was not available, this trade came about so fast that Clark actually practiced that same day of the trade which would have never happened if it was known then he was even being moved.

He got moved because they had a chance to get Parsons and it’s what Dallas wanted.  He wasn’t being shopped from all the reports I’ve seen.

More importantly, we signed DTs and drafted 2, we were never going to trade for one even if he was available IMHO.

Yeah, like others have said, I don't think Clark was on the market. It was just something they did to land themselves Micah Parsons. Short of us moving a Parsons level player, we weren't getting Kenny Clark.

I don’t but after 8 years of busting on free agents and draft picks at the position, why not trade for a guy?

We haven't busted for eight years, although certainly there have been some busts. Not all, though.

Assuming you mean DT, Oliver isn't a bust. Assuming you mean 1-tech, DaQuan wasn't a bust, though he's now apparently aging. And there's a very solid chance that one or more of the young guys, probably Deone Walker and possibly a guy like Zion Logue could become that guy. For that matter, Lotulelei was a very solid space eater for his first two years here before COVID ruined his career, in two separate ways.

Nothing wrong with trading, though, that's fair enough. But no reason to think the Pack were interested in giving Clark away before Parsons became available.
