I agree with you, but I don’t think there’s some congress of powerful people somewhere colluding in secret.

I think any observant spectators realized that the circus was tanking his draft stock.

A conversation here or there is not exactly collusion.

True. And who even projected him to the first round? The sports media. Who talked him up? The sports media. They are wrong about prospects sometimes. Team evaluators weren't saying he was a first rounder. And when he continued to fall, it was sports media who made a huge deal about it. They created the storm themselves and tried to turn him into a prospect he wasn't and then created a controversy when there didn't even need to be.

Sanders tanked his own draft stock with his attitude, baggage, and poor interviewing, and he didn't have the raw elite traits to warrant a risk in taking him high. So, he fell until a team decided to take him.

Manning did interview well, then told SD to pound sand. He told them that he wouldn’t play for them and to trade him to the NY Giants. Sanders isn’t nearly a perfect prospect and he certainly messed up the pre draft process. But he never told any team he was above playing for them.

How do you know what he told teams? He very well could have told certain teams he wouldn't play for them.

I guess it wouldn't be the first time that the NFL colluded, but I don't know if I buy this one. If a guy is a potential Franchise QB, a guy who changes the course of your organization, then they would tell the League Office to kick rocks.

Example of what, or for what?

Did you read the PFT article? It points out exactly what the league would've had to gain by doing this.

Nothing but fodder, belonged on the bottom of a bird cage.

Wait, so you’re telling me a business didn’t want to give millions of dollars to an employee that refused to follow the standard interview process of said business? Wow I’m truly shocked.

Everyday Americans put in more effort to find a 9-5 job in this current market than what it sounds like what this kid did for teams leading up to the draft. He deserves no sympathy, and although I doubt the accuracy of this story, I'm glad it turned out the way it did and he wasn't rewarded for his behavior.

People in this thread think they’re making good criticisms of the wealthy owners when all they’re actually doing is complaining about a rich kid not getting special privileges. It’s hilarious.

I didn't follow Shedeur in college. He has looked good in preseason so far. Considering the market for qbs I was surprised how far he fell given his profile. If he's a good qb he'll get his opportunity

He apparently deliberately tanked interviews with certain teams so as not to get drafted by them. Deion said the year before his sons won't be playing for certain teams, and it would be an Eli Manning-like situation if certain teams drafted them.

And that’s how you end up on the Browns

I don’t buy this. There have been a million players with “attitude” issues in the last decade or so and they got drafted fine.

Sanders had a lot of question marks out of Colorado and was overhyped by his last name.

Exactly. It wouldn’t be the first time a QB has dropped drastically. Still makes you wonder how EJ Manuel went in the 1st round and Sanders went in the 5th.

Exactly there's a massive difference between the sports pundits who understand what they're talking about and the people with boots on the ground

I'll never debate that Sanders has talent.. he has old school pocket passer traits in a smaller body..  he can dissect man coverage and he's very accurate

But there's a lot more to the league now than just that.. he had negative rushing yards in college

The last top quarterback pick I could find with negative rushing yards was Eli Manning like 20 years ago.. and it's a different game

Jackson dart got drafted in the first because he is a Creator which fits the modern day NFL... Sanders just doesn't have the traits which scream first round pick

Even Baker Mayfield who was around the same height.. has a cannon and was very Mobile in college

Teams would draft Lucifer himself if they think he can be a franchise QB.  Eric is full of BS.

Its not collusion if 32 teams independently decide they don't want the SS sideshow, with the old man hovering.  I for one think that is how this happened.  The NFL isn't stupid.  But, I also believe somebody did call and tell the Browns to draft this guy.  Oh well....

the nfl would absolutely love the ratings boost of a sanders sideshow.

It’d be Tebow 2.0 with a mediocre qb that’s completely polarizing

a GM would not. A head coach even less.

it makes no sense to say the league directed teams to avoid him

It's a really interesting concept to just have all the players say, ya, I'm not participating in your crap.

It has already started to happen, little by little, with the scouting combine (which I think will be more or less obsolete within a decade as more and more prominent players refuse to participate in it).

If they ALSO start to decline the pre-draft interview rat race or, at the very least, to steer it more in the direction of "you're recruiting ME, I'm not interviewing for a job"...could be interesting.

Granted, all of this mostly applies to the 1st and 2nd round, top talent guys. I don't imagine mid round to UDFA caliber guys are gonna be pulling these power plays any time soon.

The difference here, as opposed to traditional labor unions is that there is not an alternative option for the players.

If there was another big time, high paying league who could take these players, then it would really be ON.

So if teams really take it seriously and "make an example" out of players who won't "submit", those players would be SOL and have to take a traditional career route or play a different sport.

Even the first and second round guys need it more than the league needs them. Yes, there is scarcity in high end talent, but there is far more scarcity of jobs in this sector nationwide. So the teams will always have the power.

Fascinating the protection SS gets. If you are unprepared for an interview you are an unserious person. These are multi billion dollar companies. If you’re an engineer or IT grad out of college, you come prepared. It’s not that complicated.

This guy is the 2025 version of Chad Kelly.

Chad Kelly was an immature privileged punk. SS has arrogance and also is privileged but other than his Dad blowing smoke he didn’t do nearly as much dumb stuff as CK. In both cases if they were better the NFL would have drafted them in the first round. Note zero racial bias. They both hurt their careers with poor behavior and hubris.

To much retired NFL player influence in their lives telling them how to deal with General Managers and life in the NFL.
