Apparently Ja'Lynn Polk has a shoulder injury, and someone let it get out that he will be out for the season. Vrabel, of course, is none too pleased. Made me think of the days before Beane and McDermott when everything about our organization was pretty much public knowledge.

After last night’s preseason matchup with the Giants, Vrabel was asked if he could add anything to the report.

“No,” Vrabel said, via transcript from the team. “Other than I’d like to find out where some of these come from. Some of these rats around here. We’ll figure that out.”

Injuries are supposed to be public knowledge in the NFL. The news here is that Vrabel thinks he can game that system. I wonder who he learned that from?

Well it seems Josh Allen played most of last season with a fractured hand that was never fully disclosed.   He was on the injury reports but the team never disclosed the severity of it.   Guessing all teams do it to some extent, at least with star players.

Injuries are not public knowledge. Teams are required to report very specific things at very specific times, and it can be extremely vague. They do not have to give any details to anyone.

That's all teams are required to do. They have to report whether or not a player was out, limited, or a full participant in practice and they have to get an injury designation (questionable, doubtful, out) for game days. And the reasons can be extremely vague: "Josh Allen, limited, hand". No details are required.

HIPAA says different. I believe all that is required is if guys are missing practice.

HIPAA doesn't apply to NFL players as they sign waivers along with their contract as per the CBA.

They don’t need to declare the severity of it. He had a hand injury and practiced fully each week

if anybody thinks Vrabel wont push the grey areas of the NFL rules or outright ignore them youre naive.  hes one of those guys who will do anything to win,  right or wrong.  total war types.  him being mad about this is just him being upset that he couldnt hide it until it benefited him in some way shape or form.

I don't believe that the CBA requires that health/injury information be made "public knowledge".  The CBA may require that players sign waivers and give their teams their medical information, but that doesn't give teams the right to release that information to the public without the individual player's consent.  I think that Vrabel has a right to be unhappy with someone telling the press the severity of the injury.

It was so obvious his hand was broke.  If you watched the play and then saw the mitt he wore for 8 weeks.

In fairness, as a fan I would prefer this mentality.  Its a competitive league.  Im not saying full on Bounty Program or Spygate, but if there are grey areas to get any type of advantage in..... yes, game the system.

Ah, thank you, good info. Doesnt change the second part tho. Teams only need to report if guys are missing practice time.

If they had to report every injury that players were playing through, every injury report from every team would be 10 pages long.
