Quote

Browns defensive end Myles Garrett was cited on Saturday morning for driving 100 miles per hour in a 60 mph zone.

Garrett flipped his Porsche a couple years back while speeding, saying he swerved to miss an animal. Now he gets caught doing 100. Maybe he didn't learn his lesson? I know these guys mostly drive cars that none of us will ever be able set a foot in, with horsepower we can't imagine, but you have to be smarter than this.

I think Miles has anger issues. When funneled in the right direction on the football field, controlled anger can be a very good thing. But not so much off the field or after the whistle blows.

I echo your astonishment.

EJ5 had a monster game vs UCLA that was rescheduled due to the Hurricane. It was ironic. An all time great UCLA team getting upset big time by two hurricanes, dashing their national title bid. The other one ran for over 300 yds if I remember correctly.

That one still stings. I was a sophomore at the time. I remember excitedly watching that one with my fraternity brothers, all discussing our plans to make the trip to the national title game only to watch James tear our hearts out.  Have never been remotely close to a BCS championship again.

Same. Was partying all over Long Beach, CSLB that weekend, and never thought for a second UCLA would lose that game. Sunday Morning Coming Down sums it up pretty good.

Listening to the WGR early morning national guy gush about the Jets pre season game and how awesome Fields was - one of the most obnoxious and silly things I have heard in my life

Anyone else catch this around 530-540 AM?

Fields TD play was actually a big reason why I think he will just never get how to play QB in the NFL.

He stepped up, looked downfield and his RB was beating his man by a few steps and Fields decided to take the harder route and run.

Yeah he scored, but he didnt take the easy 6/completion, exposed his body to an additional hit. Opened up the possibility of a fumble etc. Fields has always had the ability, but his inability to see the field is why he is on his 3rd team in 3 years

I think it goes without saying that Caleb had a disappointing rookie season (I don't think it's an especially hot take to say he was the 4th or 5th best among the 5 first rounders last year) and has a lot to prove in Year 2. Having said that, so much of what Cowherd says here is misleading or just flat out laughable.

The description for Tier 4 in Mike Sando's rating system is "unproven" OR "veterans that should not start all 17 games". The former is why all of the 2nd year QBs, including Jayden Daniels, received Tier 4 votes. Some of the voters take the tier descriptions very seriously and it stands to reason that every young QB needs to prove themselves across multiple seasons. Having said that, even if the tier descriptions were not provided and people were just given the assignment of listing the QBs across 5 tiers, having Caleb in Tier 3 or 4 makes sense. It's entirely possible Cowherd didn't actually read the article about the rankings and simply didn't know specific guidelines like that were provided.

The idea that sitting the starting QB in the preseason is abnormal is simply a joke and this is a point that Cowherd knows he's just making up. Starting QBs are rested in preseason all the freaking time including this past week. He kept repeating over and over that every starting QB played this week when in reality, it was only half of them (and in a few of those cases, they are literally competing for the starting QB job so of course they're playing). Amongst established starters, it was less than half of them playing in the preseason opener. Also for historical reference, across Ben Johnson's three years as OC in Detroit, his starting QB appeared in one preseason game. He just doesn't believe in it.

Exactly. The Bears' broadcasters said that Ben Johnson held a 50-play mock game prior to the preseason game. Caleb needs to learn the offense, not prove himself by running vanilla plays against a vanilla defense (no disrespect to vanilla, the greatest ice cream flavor). Also, Cowheard is just trying to create controversy to generate clicks.

I do wonder how the Bears offense will look with Williams. Williams and Geoff who Ben Johnson most recently built an offense on are two different styles of QB's. Geoff is a pure pocket passer, he isn't immobile but much of his mobility comes from within the pocket as opposed to designed runs and scrambles. Williams flourished in College when he was moving around not a Lamar or Josh style runner but someone who worked well when plays collapsed or within designed rollouts and designed movements.

So Ben Johnson simply can't import his offense with some minor tweaks and have it work well to Williams playstyle. So I do wonder if they will try to heavily modify the offense towards a moving QB? That's the type of analysis that I hope to hear not some bull#### about pre-season.

Maybe 'La Bamba' came on the radio. I've noticed I drive faster when La Bamba comes on. It's almost like muscle memory to try and keep up to the song.

Yep. They've seemingly improved the offensive line a ton (and to be honest, folks put way too much of the sacks on the OL last year...they were average at best but they weren't a trainwreck like a lot of people suggested they were) and the pass catchers around Caleb should be pretty good. There's really no excuse for that offense to struggle in 2025.

With an offensive line that's vastly improved on paper (their OT's were solid last year and they completely remade the interior of the offensive line with three big additions there and they even added in a 2nd round OT for depth and longer term insurance) and a pair of pass catchers drafted high up in Loveland at TE and Burton at WR complementing DJ Moore a very good WR1, Kole Kemet a solid starting caliber TE, and last years top 10 pick in Odunze the Bears offense on paper is a very good "collection of talent". However, as we saw with the Jets last year a collection of talent is not always leading to team success.

Much like the NBA you can have super star talents but if they don't fit together into a team concept well and don't have good coaching making sure everyone knows their roles things can get very dicey.

The Bears offense will rest on their QB and their coaching. The pieces are in place with the draft and free agency additions they made around Williams the past two seasons. IF Williams is the real deal or at least a better than average starting QB in year two and Ben Johnson has a solid scheme for him I expect their offense to be pushing towards a top 10 offense.

Soon to be seen as donated clothing in underprivileged nations, as were all those 'Bills Super Bowl XXV - XXVIII Champs'.

If only I'd been born a bills fan in Burkina Faso, I'd still be singing "We Are The Champions"

I am wondering if the Cooks news is being saved for Hard Knocks. I could see McBeane seeing the benefit of throwing a bone and letting the show be the first to announce the deal, which the show has never done.

It is all about ratings.

Also wonder, if the Lions offense takes a step back?  I still think Goff is an average QB who has a ton of weapons to mask his average arm talent and lack of mobility.

My 1995 Chevy Lumina did 115.   Its not about the car.  Its about the idiot behind the wheel.   Garrett has provided more than enough evidence proving he is a total and complete nincompoop.

I’ll give you lack of mobility but Goff can sling it. He throws one of the best deep balls in the game and is very accurate. He may not have Josh Allen’s arm but not many do. Lions will be fine. They’ve got a great coach and like you said a lot of talent. Lions vs Bills Super Bowl 60 🥳
