Mikie2times Posted Tuesday at 02:06 AM Posted Tuesday at 02:06 AM This seems to be a really interesting grouping not only thru training camp but also when Ogunjobi and Hoecht (can we please give nicknames?) return. It would seem Hoecht could be more of a hybrid as far as position allocation, so another layer with that factored in. How many do we typically keep each year is also not something I'm 100% on. So I'm curious what some people think as far as what they expect this to look like out of camp and what they expect this to look like when those two players return. Do you see any surprise cuts? I have heard Jones and Carter being tossed around, but those appear to be the likely 1 tech DT's? I know Ogunjobi can play that spot as well. Perhaps even Walker although most his draft feedback has said that isn't necessarily who he is. 1 1 Quote
Shortchaz Posted Tuesday at 02:11 AM Posted Tuesday at 02:11 AM Not a surprise but jones is going to be cut. 1 Quote
gonzo1105 Posted Tuesday at 02:26 AM Posted Tuesday at 02:26 AM Carter is moving to the 1T. Beane has pretty much already said so. I think your going to see them keep 10 DL at the beginning of the season as Ogunjobi and Hoecht don’t count against the 53 while suspended. Then after the 6 games are up don’t be surprised if Epenesa is traded for whatever they can get and Jones will come down with an ailment that puts him on IR before they cut him if they need his money 1 4 1 Quote

MikePJ76 Posted Tuesday at 01:02 PM Posted Tuesday at 01:02 PM I fail to see what ogunjobi brings to the team. He seems to be a declining player who brings very little to the table. Throw in the suspension I can not see the point of having him on the roster. I guess maybe they keep him through the suspension in case of injuries but I can't even see him being active on gameday if he is healthy. I am not the biggest fan of this free agent class. 1 Quote

jahnyc Posted Tuesday at 01:31 PM Posted Tuesday at 01:31 PM Do Ogunjobi and Hoecht have to be on the final roster at the end of training camp/pre-season before their suspension begins? Quote

They typically participate in camp and preseason, but then go on the suspension list once the regular season begins. They do not count against the 53 man roster. The interesting thing is that the players are barred from practice and the team facilities for the 1st half of the suspension. After that they can return to practice to get ready to return to the field. The players aren't paid during the suspension their salary, but I'm not sure the full affects on the salary cap. https://www.profootballnetwork.com/how-do-nfl-suspensions-work/#:~:text=A first-time offender will, the NFL's substance abuse policy. 1 Quote
MJS Posted Tuesday at 02:55 PM Posted Tuesday at 02:55 PM DT seems pretty straightforward. Oliver, Jones, Sanders, Walker, and Carter are all pretty safe. I think Ogunjobi is not going to be retained after his suspension. But maybe he bumps Carter or Jones? I think that is a stretch. DE is a little more interesting. Rousseau, Bosa, Jackson, Solomon, and Hoecht (with his valuable versatility) are locks. I could see Epenesa traded with a post June 1st designation, and that would actually free up some cap this year. And I could see some teams being interested, although we'd only get a 4th or 5th rounder. 1 hour ago, MikePJ76 said: I fail to see what ogunjobi brings to the team. Yeah, there isn't a downside to keeping him through his suspension in case of injury or if someone like Carter or Jones are just really playing poorly. If not, let him walk. 1 Quote
frostbitmic Posted Tuesday at 03:10 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:10 PM If our Defense is playing well through the first 6 weeks, neither one of these guys might get added to the roster until there's an injury. Quote
Logic Posted Tuesday at 03:17 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:17 PM It's definitely an interesting question. My eyes are on an AJ Epenesa trade and/or a DaQuan Jones cut. They simply don't have room on the roster for everyone. And even IF they find a way to play the first six games with those guys, they'll need to make room once Ogunjobi and Hoecht return. 3 Quote
Kirby Jackson Posted Tuesday at 03:27 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:27 PM Epenesa for Alec Pierce, who says no? 2 Quote

My hot take is that Ogunjobi could be on the chopping block. Presumably as a trade rather than cut candidate, and maybe dead cap stuff makes both of those impossible - I haven't checked. But something about how the Bills didn't find out about his suspension until after they'd agreed to terms... just seems like they'd be willing to cut bait quicker than usual. 1 Quote

The other thing with Ogunjobi is that they signed him before they drafted Sanders and Walker. Sometimes the results of a draft can change your thinking on roster spots at a given position. Quote

He only has a 2.5 mil dead cap this year post 6/1 if cut. We cut OJ Howard a few years ago with a similar dead cap. It probably comes down to him and Daquon since I think they will keep 5 2 Quote
