But do you pick a guy who isn't quite the guy you want just to keep that guy from landing w/ a rival?

How about this rule…no draft trades with our “chief” rival?  I like Coleman a lot but handing Mahomes and Reid a key piece just sticks in my craw…

I was one for drafting Worthy and Coleman if you go back and read my posts prior to the draft, but I do have major doubts as to whether Worthy will hold up with his slight build and frame.

Coleman will end up being a good player, but ultimately Worthy depending on health I think would've been a better pick due to the lack of a true speedster/deep threat to make teams play with their safeties back

I think the truth is we'll never know how Worthy would have worked out if drafted by the Bills. If the Chiefs had drafted Coleman he might look like a star in KC.

Look at MVS, the Chiefs were able to use him effectively while the Bills weren't able to get him involved in the offense at all.

That points out the superior coaching of KC which maximizes the potential of their players.

Assessing Coleman has been really difficult given the way the ball is spread around on offense.  Seems there are stats that show his ability to separate is not great, which is a problem, if true.  If he is not effective on deeper routes than his value to the offense is diminished since we have players that already fill what is basically a slot receiver type skill set (i.e., Shakir).

So if you are up against Tiger Woods in his prime, do you just skip the tournament? Look, it’s been bad timing for the Bills while the KC dynasty was peaking, but we have a promising season ahead of us. Phil didn’t suck at golf, but he (and everyone else) had a hard time coming in ahead of Tiger. That’s the deal, so how do we best move forward?

The thing I hate about this discussion is, every time Worthy gets injured or drops a pass or fumbles we get the "haha, see, we were right to let them have the pick, Coleman is better", then every time he makes any kind of catch the other group come here talking about how he's the greatest wideout alive.

It's exactly why this thread is so awesome.  It epitomizes this board.

This thread will live on as long as both these players are on their teams (and maybe even longer).

It's like the "Jelly of the Month Club" if it keeps auto renewing every year!

Apples and oranges. If I was drafting a golf team I’d take Tiger over Phil. The Chiefs have not just exceeded in their coaching, their GM picks players best suited to their needs. He doesn’t pick another TE when the current one was just signed to a new contract, or pass on a WR who can stretch the defense.

If they swapped teams Worthy would be getting 4 targets and 1 end around per game in this offense and folks would be complaining about Coleman getting a ton of opportunity while Rashee Rice has been out.

Lets be honest here.

Worthy makes the KC offense very dangerous again.

The offense with Worthy and without Worthy is like night and day.

Time to unleash Taylor Rapp…, just sayin, lol

This is probably true.   KC wants to be a passing offense.   Brady wants the Bills to be a running offense and we don't even know what to do with the few speed guys we do have since we're always running 12 or 13 personnel.   Do we even practice throwing deep balls?

So KC shouldn’t trade with us either….

we wanted a 3rd round pick.  They gave it to us.  It’s a two way street

KC has 5 Super Bowl appearances with 3 wins over the last 7 seasons because of the Bills.  KC should absolutely trade with us every single chance they get!

Yes our coaching staff didn't maximize 5th round Matt Milano into an all pro.. sixth round Christian Benford into a stud.. a castaway from the browns in Jordan poyer into an all pro.. turned a good player in Micah Hyde into an All-Pro with a position switch

James Cook has progressed every year and is always put in the best spots.. we took a super raw quarterback in Josh Allen who all the scouts admitted had tons of talent.. but the browns and jets and John elway passed him up because they didn't think they could develop him ... The bills did

We have developed Dawkins and Spencer Brown , we literally had the best 6th offensive lineman last year which we developed... We gave diggs the best years of his career.. we have developed Dawson Knox and even a guy like shavers has gone from undrafted to a key special team player who has had like a 70-yard touchdown last year in the NFL

The Bills draft and develop talent better than 90% of the league

More truth to this than people want to admit.  I’d still rather KC have a quality possession receiver than an electrifying take the top of the defense receiver like they have with Worthy and had with Hill.

If Buffalo had drafted Worthy, all the complainers would do is B word about his size and not seeing the ball enough. The Buffalo Bills are a run-first team now under Joe Brady, and Coleman is a great fit as he can actually block and catch those contested balls.

I love this current offense as it's a tough, hard-nosed, dominant run scheme that doesn't turn the ball over. This also allows Josh Allen to be the best QB he can be in any offense. Just rewatch the 4th quarter against the Baltimore Ravens again.

Bottom line is that Buffalo did the right thing in drafting Coleman. Alas, some fans are never happy.

No disrespect - but - not really sure how its not part of the conversation?  A major concern about Worthy coming out, and still is now, was his small frame holding up to high volume work in the NFL.  Pretty doubtful Keon misses time if he had run into Kelce week 1.  "Availability is the best ability" is an entrenched mantra in the NFL for a reason.  So to act like it has no value, especially during a stretch the Chiefs went 1-2 and are looking up in their division and well behind in the seeding race in the AFC right now seems unreasonable.

Not to mention, this was just 1 game he has appeared in, and against the same team Keon had a big game and was a core reason why we won it.  Not to mention, Worthy has way more target opportunities in KC right now with the lack of weapons there due to a lesser WR room, lesser OL, lesser RB room and their actual best WR suspended.

So no disrespect, but feels like the pro Worthy crowd only seems to be interested in discussing things that provide confirmation bias for preexisting opinions.

What is most interesting is how few people seem so shut down to the idea that BOTH teams got the guy that fits best with what they wanted, needed, and the offenses they run.  KC wasn't looking for a WR1, they wanted a deep threat and didn't need size either with Kelce and Rice there amongst others.  Bills were looking for more a physical and bigger target given we lacked size on our WR room when we drafted Keon and were in the beginning of a full retooling of the group.

Well, Coleman has missed more games due to injury (4) than Worthy (3), right?  And that's without having an oaf of a teammate run him over.  So that takes care of the "best ability is availability" argument.  Very basically, for the other poster to say "well, what's Worthy done the last three weeks," is incredibly lazy.  And inapposite, for that matter.

I like Coleman--a LOT.  I want him to succeed.  But he isn't the better player right now, and I'm certain that I'm not the only poster who thinks the Bills helped out their big rival in the AFC with that trade a couple of years ago.

EDIT:  I want to add:  Sheer skill on the field is not what makes a player best for the team, and Coleman's personality is by far the better fit for the Bills.  His cookie-eating, Macy's coat-wearing dorkiness fits so well with a QB who draws a buffalo that looks like a potato and plays Catan.  So there's that, too.

But to point to a guy's three weeks of injury and say "scoreboard!" as if that's the end of the argument, is intellectually dishonest.
