Also, hidden play of the day was the first half 3rd and 2 with 1:20 left at the -41.

Not sure on play design since it broke down but not having a play where Shakir being always open somewhere 5-10 and Josh throwing the ball 40 yards to an area where three receivers and four defenders were is a play you want back.

Here's the play:

No one got open and the IOL immediately collapsed.

I think Brady needs to find some answers other than mesh. Defenses have this play figured out because we've put it on tape so frequently. Hard to be too upset with anyone on the offensive side though.

Should have gone for it on 4th and 2 although on some level I understand why we didn't.

Not sure if Josh has the ability to check into a run there but man that front looks prime to run against. We had all three timeouts and plenty of time. Just pick up the first down and keep the drive going.

Very frustrating how that half ended.

Allen is leading the NFL in EPA/play at .332.

His lead over Lamar Jackson at .275 in second place is bigger than the gap between Jackson and Jordan Love who is in 8th place at .228.

That's absurd.

I dunno Dude... the Bills are 10-3 now. Apparently in your world their schedule so far consisted of 10 losers?

Expand

9 losers. please reread my post.

we lost to playoff teams: ravens, texans, rams. all in 3 different ways. defensive failure, offensive failure, coaching failure, in that order.

we need a special teams gaffe this week for the win, and the way we play ST i am hoping that is enough to make us miserable without a face punch.

I think the staff has made great halftime adjustments all year - but they seemed non-existent yesterday.

I felt confident at the half for that reason.  But then the Rams came out & just continued w/ long clock-killing drives.  We really could do nothing to stop them.

Haha I mean I was half kidding with that…but the run blitzing worked in this one.  Saying we shouldn’t have done it because there’s risk involved is bizarre to me.

risk is important sure and you want to put the opposing offense in riskier situations rather than letting them just walk down the field.  At worst you’re giving up a fast td rather than a slow time consuming td the way not run blitzing was going.  You shouldn’t just not run blitz because theoretically good defenses don’t have to 😂 I don’t get that

to me mcd finally made an adjustment to be more aggressive knowing a qb on fire like that could easily make the plays needed to put together a long td drive if you play soft.  maybe it’s getting lost a bit cuz of the dumb sneak decision but I think that’s a positive still

I don’t think you’re following me. I agree with you the Bills should blitz. They have to blitz. They have to blitz because they can’t generate pressure otherwise.

Seems like Defense and Coaching failures like to intertwine...

Defense was DEFINITELY the issue yesterday, above coaching failure.  And that's saying something with how McDermott handled the end of game situations.

We forget, but we were about to put Baltimore on the ropes and cut it to a one score game in the 3rd Quarter until Brady called up the dumbest trick play imaginable which ended the game and almost got Allen killed.

It's sad to see Josh and how hard he takes the loss, takes responsibility, and takes it all on the chin. It's actually amazing the level of accountability there. I feel bad for him.

when it's offensive struggles and special teams mistakes as well as a defensive failure it goes higher up to be a coaching issue.

not that it would have changed much I imagine but on the big catch by puka on the sideline the rams false started, the right tackle flinched the bills were pointing it out and then snapped the ball with no call.  that was a big no call, it was third down.

then the false start on the 4th down.

Bummer.  I imagine the Bills turned both those plays into the league this morning asking for an explanation, not that matters the league usually has vague responses from my understanding from the plays teams turn in with complaints.

These are also the places where we do miss Kincaid.

Mesh under center with some play action out of a condensed formation is just so much better and always open. But I agree. That can't be your only bread and butter look.

Well, yeah........but it wasn't like he pitched a perfect game against a great defense and lost.    He had 2 games worth of TD's but a game and half worth of bad decisions and throws too.

Yeah I don't disagree. He made some bad decisions early on. But it's hard to play much better than he did. He needs some help.

Pretty universal frustration at what surrounds (and has surrounded Allen) for the past few years today.

From Orlovsky to Brandt to McAfee to Eisen, the entire football world seems completely fed up with games like this happening in Buffalo.

"IF" if happens again in the Playoffs, it's going to be ugly.

The thing is McDermott, for the final TD it wasn't our best play since it was on the 1.5 yard line.  That's a huge difference for the tush push play.  They often only get 1 yard on that play which is typically enough.   So they didn't really have a plan for when Josh got stuffed and then panicked, called timeout.  Clearly they should have done some sort of quick pass or rollout option.  Anything to get the clock to stop and then have 2nd down.

These games are just too common from the coaching perspective. I actually think some of the decisions yesterday were 50/50 calls that unfortunately just went wrong. But when you look at how frequently things like this just go wrong, it's a troubling trend.

Defensively I just can't quite figure out how I feel. We seem to have 1-2 total clunkers per season on the defensive end. But the lack of pass rush is a real problem. Douglas hasn't been great all season and yesterday they picked on him. There are holes and McDermott/Babich have to cover them up quickly.

Just in general I thought maybe we didn't have the right preparation for this game from both an emotional and from a football perspective.

I feel like yesterday was a reminder why Elam was drafted and Beane keeps him in the roster.  That was a game when Douglas was down that Elam helps outside.  Needed a stop and they were unable to deliver.  That punt block put NAS in the Rams gas tank for the rest of the day.
