I've never understood that expression. I've never held a loaf of bread out away from my body. If I was going to keep something at arms length it would be a bomb or my wife. I guess "Josh Allen hangs the ball out there like a wife" doesn't have the same ring

But seriously I think there's a clip of a Josh run with the ball in his right hand and a Dolphins defender in front of him and he basically traces the outline of him with the ball, like "oh I got to get this up and over you," then carries on his merry way.

The saying originates from how a French woman would carry a baguette - with the ends of it sticking out.  A runner should cover both ends (or points) of the ball with his hand and elbow/ribs.   It’s being misused when talking about Josh.
