McD is a genius with D Backs, and if he doesn’t want Edwards on the field, I trust his judgment. Maybe a backup safety can make it work somewhere else, but he doesn’t seem to be a fit here. I doubt if it's even just McD. I'll guess it's the consensus of the defensive coaching staff. These are smart guys who know football. I admit I was very wrong about this season. I penciled Edwards in as the starter, opposite Rapp. And I thought Hamlin might not make the final 53. But, like you, I trust our defensive coaches.

Because no one else signed him after 6 days of free agency? 👌 Mike Edwards is untradeable, imo. He provides very important depth and he may be in their future plans in 2025. Right now it doesn't seem like he's first in line to see the field even if there was an injury. If he wants out and the bills can find a team willing to give something for him I don't see the point in keeping him here.
Drey
This is all just a big misunderstanding due to having two Mike Edwards on the team. 2

Maybe McDermott likes that. The future is Bishop, he’s not ready. Maybe Bishop should get a little playing time in the 4th quarter when you are up say 21 points? BigAl2526
If the Bills let go of him, I would like to know who our safety depth consists of besides Cole Bishop. Cam Lewis doesn't cut it for me.
Ethan in Cleveland
Zero reason to trust McDermott on personnel decisions. He started Trent Murphy for three years and he was worse than Epenesa. He didn't recognize Teller. He started Peterman. Heck even Poona Ford is playing ok for Chargers (15 tackles and 1 sack). If you say that is not much it's double he had with Bills last year and on pace for what he did with Seattle on a regular basis. Oh and it's 3 more tackles than Oliver has. Obviously with the training camp injury Hamlin was starting. But it's still very curious that Edwards can't even dress for game day and rotate in for a few series per game. 2
DCofNC
Would save 800k in cap this year if they cut him, but that’s already half gone, so he’s asking to walk away with 1.6M of free money for a $400k “return” to the Bills, sorry Mike, you’re probably stuck on the bench. 6 minutes ago, Ethan in Cleveland said: Zero reason to trust McDermott on personnel decisions. There’s more than just those as well. One has real reason to question wtf is going on with Elam, Edwards, Bishop, Dion Jones etc, once McClappy anoints some one or decides he doesn’t like them, it’s only breakable by injury forcing it. 1 1

I expected him to start next to Rapp as presumably our best coverage safety (prior to injuries). This one always struck me as odd. To be fair , he was injured and never had the chance to beat out Damar. Is it that , Once McD named his starter , there is very little chance he replaces said starter ? Has he been playing packages ? Sounds like he is soured if true. But hope Cine is next up I guess. Dont know how he fits back there ??

I’m kinda surprised they didn’t “platoon” safety to start the year like they did with some Oline positions in the past. Maybe they didn’t think he was far enough along, or maybe he just hasn’t been “process” oriented enough right from the start. Hamlin is second on the team in tackles and firsts in ints. Hard to say he has been a weakness. Besides the Bishop miscue on the Collins play, Buffalo hasn’t given up anything over top either. I think S is a need in the fans eyes. I think the staff is pleased with Hamlin and Rapp. Edwards wants out because injury is his only path to playing.

He isn't an impact starter or anything, hut he is fine. He is like Levi Wallace. Replaceable, but not a liability, either.
