What can we expect on day 3?

Johnson is good, one of the better NCB's in the game. Just because Benford is a starter here now doesn't mean squat. Levi Wallace was a starter here once, too.

What kind of a post is this.  For all the time you spend putting together a Round 1 mock you seem to have no sense of how the draft works as a whole.  I have my issues with Beane but he excels on Day 3, there is no dispute.

At this point I could care less. I wouldn't be surprised if he traded 3 of those 5ths for a 2025 4th. The fact that he couldn't pull a 2025 pick out and do something last night really pees me off. Next year will he turn those early picks into a basket full of day 3s?

But that's the equivalent of the underwear Olympics. We are either gonna overpay to move up in the 4th or watch the best of the rest come off the board before our first pick.

I'm finding it a little amusing how many posters are talking about McBeane's D obsession, when considering that the Bills brain trust has given Josh a ton of skill help early in the last 3 drafts.  Each time is was a position that Beane had never targeted early in the draft in his tenure.

2022 - They drafted Cook in the 2nd rd (pick 63).  Cook was known as a good receiver out of the backfield and caught 80% of his targets last year.  Prior to Cook, the highest Beane drafted a RB was 3rd rd picks Singletary and Moss.  He also added Shakir in the 5th and that seems to be working out ok so far.

2023 - Beane drafted Kincaid (TE) at 25 and then added a starting OG in Torrence in the 2nd (pick 59).  Prior to 2023 the highest TE was Knox (3rd rd pick 96th).

2024 - This year Beane takes a WR Coleman with the Bills first pick at 33.  Davis was the highest drafted Bill WR under Beane prior and was a 4th rd selection.

Of his premium picks (rounds 1-3), Beane has favored D slightly (11 to 9), but overall he has made 23 O picks to 22 D picks with 2 specialists.  Sorry, but I'm not seeing much bias here, but I am seeing a change to finally getting some talented skill help for Josh.

I'd like to see them pick up a power RB in R4 or 5.  Aside from short yardage and goalline situations,  I'm concerned that until the Bills establish a deep threat,  defenses are going to play them pretty tight and there's not going to be a lot of running room.

Depth on both lines is always useful on day 3.  So are DBs.  A decent C prospect,  in particular, would be a nice addition.

Another WR with some downfield speed is a big need,  but I'd rather have gotten a more complete player than what is likely to be left.

I’m also still on the trade a late pick to Carolina for Terrance Marshall, Jr. train. Carolina only has 4 picks today and Marshall played for Brady back at LSU and in Carolina and is trapped down the depth chart there. He was buried before they drafted Leggette. Still just 23, big, fast, and hungry.

if we’re going to trade for a WR, needs to be a quality player not a fringe roster player

our biggest needs going forward IMO-

WR who can take the top off, that opposing D must fear their speed

RB who can pass block, and own 4th and 1.

those are our biggest needs IMO

with additional draft picks- LB depth, Edge depth CB depth and special teams demons

I'm all for this.  Let's get this show on the road!

Go Bills!

Im fine with what Beane has done. There are plenty of promising players left on the Board. You just know some of them are going to be good- and Beane has lots of ammo. I think the O still needs a field stretching WR. Baker or Troy or a more developmental X perhaps later in the draft, of which there are several.

I don’t think those guys are out there. Unless they are these 30 million dollar guys,  I think a young guy, with upside, who is cheap and buried makes sense on some level if you like him more than what is on the board.

I predict a deep threat wr, Rb, Edge as the primary targets.  Think they leave the draft with 7 to 8 draft picks.  I would trade up for Kamara from Colorado St. and for a deep threat Wr.  Let a Rb fall to them and olineman.

Good breakdown.

Kincaid is a nice piece but so far he looks closer to a guy like Gesicki than he does to Kecle. He can't block anyone. Maybe his ceiling is Kittle who can block a little.

I have a fondness for Knox and how physical he plays but he is dead to me until he stops dropping the dam ball.

A bit of recent bias as Beane did not use a first or second round pick on offense for several drafts in a row while taking DL three times (Oliver, Rousseau and Epenesa). Then used back to back 3rd round picks on RBs that are no longer on the tram.  Of course he got Diggs which was masterful. However after that he allowed them to go into one season with just two rookie TEs. He continued to use mid to late round guys to address RT. To be fair it looked like Davis might have been a gem. But after that 4 TD game he forgot how to catch the dam ball. They tried to make McKenzie a starter but obviously misjudged his talent.

And let's not even start to discuss the debacle that has been the OG story under Beane. It has taken him 5 years to finally have a competent set of guards while cutting a probowl talent.

Now all we are doing is trying to recreate what hasn't worked so far by drafting safety and rotational DT.

By cutting Diggs and not adequately addressing WR we are a worse team now than the one that barely won the divison and lost in the playoffs.

Now Beane has been good getting late in FA guys like Floyd last year. I think he adds a veteran WR after 6/1 either in free agency or trade. Maybe by training camp one of these WRs will be available for a 2025 draft pick.

Yeah, Wallace was a starter and a pretty decent one too. And a UDFA.

Benford appears better. That could be a mirage, we'll see, but he does look a bit better.

Plenty of guys we've never heard of have been drafted in the fourth or later and become good players, for us and for other teams as well.

Milano

Gabe Davis

Bass

Dane Jackson far outplaying his 7th round status

Taron Johnson

Shakir

Hodgins was never as good as some want to make him out to be now that he's gone, but he's done really well for a 6th

Teller

Doesn't make it much easier to watch on TV, but these round have produced important contributors.

Plenty more filled roster spots or ST spots and not more, but a surprising number have been real contributors.

Gesicki can NOT block anyone. Doesn't even try. Kincaid is already blocking people pretty successfully. No, he's not a very good blocker but he is willing and already solid at getting in the way, though certainly not a people mover by any means.

Kincaid is already far better than a "nice piece."

Davis was a gem, for a 4th rounder.

We do appear to be a worse team, though it might not turn out that way. That's because we had to get rid of some salaries in Morse, Hyde, Poyer, White, and Floyd, among others. Losing Diggs will absolutely hurt us on the field as well. They don't appear to have expected to let Diggs go this year, but things got worse. The WR room would have still looked solid with Diggs there.

They'll try to do it in the aggregate. Having Josh should make that possible, particularly with Kincaid, Shakir, Knox and Cook chipping in with catches. We'll have to see how well it actually goes.

Last year's team came damn close to beating the Chiefs in the playoffs, and that team took the trophy home.

My guess is the next 3 picks are a C/interior, another WR, and either another DB or linebacker

Those seem like good guesses to me.

And that 11 to 9 doesn't include the 1st traded away for Diggs, correct? So, it's actually 11 to 10.

A lot of this is just confirmation bias.

Considering that the defense always lets us down, I’d be fine with hammering only defense picks until we get one that can get one stop when it matters.
