Off-field stuff isnt. Folks get so confused about employer discipline when it comes to this stuff. I could commit a whole bunch of crimes that my employer would have zero business punishing me over. Including car accidents. Now, I get that they are in high-profile positions and the league needs to protect it's public image in order to make money, but that is the only reason they get involved with punishments for off-field issues. Punishing people for off-field crimes is what the judicial system is for, and he'll be serving 30 days and 5 years probation. Any issues with that, take it up with the courts. Oh, there's no confusion here and I completely understand it, but it's also a bad look for the league to pick and choose which off-field incidents it looks to punish and which it glosses over. Quote

Agreed and fair or not it is what it is... I will say this about employment... I have a clause in mine that says xyz and if I do xy or z I can be fired... I think players have clauses like this and it is part of the CBA so I get the league wanting to discipline on top of the court decisions... for the exact reasons you delineated. 2 Quote

Different jobs have different requirements, and for some jobs it makes sense that driving or drug infractions could affect employment. And if unions are involved, I trust any employer involvement is agreed upon and for a good reason. I get it with the NFL adding on, but some people act like its the league's job to be the police, judge, jury, and executioner when they're just trying to run a sports entertainment business. 1 1 Quote

I dont disagree... they really need to police on field issues... to ensure fair competition... I get character stuff too... especially if it is some kind of domestic violence.. other things like abject stupidity... well.. sure hand out a suspension to validate your public image clause.. but 12 games or something... I dunno that seems like a bit of an over reach to me... I am trying to remember a few years ago wasnt Ed Oliver involved in some kind of drag racing... maybe there was a gun involved incident.. I am not sure if he was suspended for that... 1 Quote

I think they pulled him over and he supposedly failed a field sobriety test, and he had a gun legally, but when mixed with a DUI it becomes an issue. But the blood test from the incident came back totally clear. He was basically pulled over and ***** with for having "tinted windows in the wrong area of town" if ya know what I mean. No legal issues so no suspension. 1 Quote

BillsFanForever19 Posted July 17 Posted July 17 And now the suspension will come down the pipeline. No conspiracy. No favoritism. This is how it plays out. Legal has to play it's course first. Now that it has, it's just a waiting game. I imagine it will come quickly as they generally have the investigation done and have an idea of what the suspension will be by the time the legal process has been completed. Quote

Idk it's really confusing. I've mostly tried to ignore it bc it's not remotely comparable or really has anything to do with the situation. But you keep harping on it, so I guess I'll play along... The NFL is not comparable to an everyday job. There's really no scenario where your employer comes to you and goes "hey, so I need you to do this thing for me and when you're done, I'm going to bring it to my bosses and if it's no good, it's going to get me suspended and cost me millions of dollars. I'm putting it all on you to do and I'm not even going to bother to look it over before I go in there". Best believe in that scenario with so much on the line, they'd take it upon themselves to do, keep an eye on what they're doing, or *at the very least*, look it over before going in and it passing or failing. And in the end, if the employer was so careless as to not do those things, the responsibility and onus would fall on them and they'd be punished for the results, just like Hoecht was. There's no way no matter how you spin this and what you compare it to that Hoecht has no blame, isn't at least an idiot, and at most a cheater. Even if his "employee" was at fault, the ultimate fault and responsibility falls on Hoecht. As it should. LOL bravo for even entertaining this and being cordial oOpS tHeReS tReNboLoNe iN mY sMoOtHiEs!!! 🤯 1 Quote

Malazan Posted July 18 Posted July 18 Anything less than 6 is a joke. He's been convicted and will be serving a jail sentence. The league is handing out 4 games for people not even charged with anything. 1 Quote

MikePJ76 Posted July 18 Posted July 18 It won’t matter how many games he is suspended for. He will be on the team in the playoffs and that’s all that matters for the chiefs. there is no back door way to beating them in the playoffs. the bills need a healthy defense that can win on the line of scrimmage in the playoffs vs KC. They won’t beat them until they have it. 3 Quote
