They aren't the police. Their job is not to uphold the law.

They have a fiduciary responsibility to uphold their industry.

Again.  The question was the integrity of the NFL.  A strong moral principle.

Tell me the NFL has a "strong moral principle"? That's the only point I was making regarding involving all the domestic issues.  I still think the NFL is recouping their losses from the covid seasons even though they are still stupidly profitable.

If I really wanted to dive into the weeds I would complain about how players are taxed but the NFL is a non-profit so they are not but yea.

The NFL pays taxes

Also, 'the NFL' mostly refers to league offices. NFL teams are not non profits and have been taxed accordingly

Likely there is going to be an issue hushed up for competitive purposes but the team's players know they are likely to lose a big game but odds are in favor of them winning.

Players, especially players who are going to retire, will pass this on to family members to bet.  If they get suspended does it matter?

There are many ways for players to influence outcomes,

The NFL didn't legalize sports betting, the states did.

The owners own many of the gambling establishments and were/are instrumental in pushing states to pass said legislation, it goes hand in hand.

cant wait till its an elite player,  one of the ones that you cant just say,  hey,  dis guy is a nobody,  waive his ass.    will be a bit different when its a top player.

its inevitable.

I wonder if a player can force himself off a team this way.

I suppose they could but get a year off and then hope somebody wants your ruined reputation

I think this is mostly PR and teams would accept a player back suspended for gambling more than PEDs, drug use, domestic violence, etc. if there was a clause in contract forfeiting salary, bonuses, etc.

I just realized that the point I was arguing aligned with Jerry Sullivan so I'm going to give myself a timeout.

Not being able to gamble on anything makes zero sense to me. NFL games I get it…even when it’s not your own game. Not being able to bet on a boxing match?? Make it make sense…

The rule isn't that they can't gamble at all, they can't gamble on NFL games obviously, and they can't gamble in NFL facilities.

Yeah I'm not really understanding this what with 80% of all commercials during any TV or radio broadcast shoving gambling sites down my throat. I must be missing something.

So if a rando practice squad player on the Lions throws $80 down on an NBA tournament one weekend, he's banned? Or it's only within league or during league play? Make it make sense indeed

Ah ok, NFL only, got it. Seems incredibly hard to police but that makes a little more sense.

They're allowed to do that right now outside team facilities.  My concern is a player could become addicted and would turn to the NFL (where they can actually influence their bets) in order to make up for the money they will inevitably lose betting other sports.

I just don't understand why they make all sports betting illegal if you're employed by the NFL or an NFL team in any capacity.  If you want to gamble, don't work for the NFL.  It makes it very simple for NFL players to understand.

DraftKings made these rules for a reason, whether that’s eligibility or withdrawal of prizes, and we need to punish those who violate the rules to deter future violations. These players need to remember who they work for.

Players work for DraftKings now.

Did a riverboat gambler sleep with your girlfriend and kick your dog or something?  That's some serious pearl clutching you're doing there.

As for losing more than you win, it depends.  By betting small and taking advantage of regular promotions, I've made far more than I've spent over time with my online gambling account (without any great lucky jackpots to skew the numbers).  Contrary to what you seem to think is possible, it's just a fun hobby for me that hasn't ruined my life.

Like all things, moderation. I also don’t gamble much but I enjoy roulette and when I play I play with $100. If I make money on the night I then double it down (sometimes what I gave over $100 others all of it) on red/black or odd/even.

my dad loves slots and is one of the luckiest people I’ve ever seen on them (I’ve seen him win $16,000 his first pull after I got up, my last time ever playing a slot btw). I learned to play roulette I do in order to pass the time and make my money last. I can generally play for hours with that $100. In my time I’d guess I’m around even give or take a few $100. Now a days my dad spots me the $100 so someone will with him.

Moderation is the key to life in regards just about everything.

Love Jerry.

I know he's hated here, but that makes me like him even more.
