The first time the new punter takes the field the commentator will briefly mention that he was recently signed to replace Araiza, and then it will never be mentioned again. Occasionally the media will report updates as the civil suit progresses but the Bills' involvement with the story is now over.

many people are looking to see who wins the job to replace Araiza…it will be a big story once we officially sign one…but yes after game one it will be over

No idea??  Do teams commonly share?  If some team finds out a player has some medical issue, would they share that, or keep it to themselves and let another team draft damaged goods?  If it were Al Davis, I'd think the answer would be no!

I really have no idea how much and of what type/criteria of pre-draft info would be shared amongst teams? On one hand the less other teams know the better, but the Araiza situation does as Roger would say "Damage the shield"  From that standpoint, you'd think they would alert others, but I don't know.

Interesting you brought up Al Davis.  When Matt Millen was GM (Technically title was CEO) of the Lions he interviewed JaMarcus Russell and called his friend Al Davis & begged him not to take Russell because Russell was so bad in his interview with the Lions.

I will concede it’s a stretch to label his draft drop as a result of this. I will also say it’s a stretch that everybody knew or that even the Bills knew. I will also say this thread, congratulating how the Bills handled this, is also stretchy. We just don’t know enough. This thread should have never been created.

Plus I’d argue it’s a stretch to say that we would have treated every player the same. Rookie punter - relatively decision. If something had come out about the college days of an established star? Far more difficult.

This is 100% false. Only local members of the media have been trying to criticize the Bills' process, and that criticism has gained no national traction. All of the national reporters I've seen are giving us credit for making the right decision quickly, and have specifically mentioned how much better we handled the situation than the Browns handled theirs. Now that Araiza is off the team the story is gone from the national media's radar. We will quietly sign a competent punter and head into the season with the controversy put to bed.

I’d generally agree, though I did hear a national radio news broadcast yesterday that seemed to take a shot at the Bills yesterday- to my dismay. The closing sentence mentioned the plaintiffs attorney and his claim that the Bills ignored his communications with them.

The old guy could have been a serial killer who murdered children at halftime.  That still doesn't have anything to do with the guy who replaces him.

Love the idea of Kern. Someone from the area who would embrace the fans and culture straight away.

Yup! Like a Pat Kane.   Like the Blackhawks dumped him or the Steelers Big Ben. LoL... They rode it out and went on to win championships.

Maybe it's the instant social media, but even if it happened today, same result... Those guys had multi-millions in war chest to tamp down any troubles.

It was probably Saul Goodman behind the scenes....

don’t think the signing will be quiet tho. Araiza’s name will be connected with the new punter for a bit since he really only got the job cause of rape allegations.

That’s a bit of a stretch imo, If it does come up at all it will be framed in such a way as to mitigate any image damage to the Bills or the NFL , the shield must be kept polished…,

I think the Bills did OK with this situation.  But even Beane said yesterday they could have done better.  Thorough implies a rigorous examination and it seems they fell a little short.

The above take is very close to my own. NO- the Buffalo Bills are not, absolutely not- the Cleveland Clowns! But, they could have done better.

An NFL sports franchise is not the Mom n Pop variety down the street, nor your local watering hole. The Dallas Cowboys made $1B in Revenue in 2021! ONE BILLION! That’s NOT what the franchise is worth-that would be $8B. And EVERY franchise is surely by now worth in the Billion$.

We are waaaay down the road therefore, of every one of these franchises having in depth analysis and prevention and corrective systems regarding their assets. What does this mean in practice?

Specifically? Highly trained specialists in personal crisis management of players, coaches and their families need to be part of every management team. These people would tackle incidents where the employees are going off the rails and/or threatening personal harm or death. Some franchises already do.

PRE selection of employees, you can’t have old Goober there, who selects Coaches or GMs based on decades old relationships- as the Bills did in the dark years. Rather, in depth interviews of a potential player/ coaches NON athletic life needs to take place.

Going forward, for Draft Day selections, if there is not a series of questions about hidden life pitfalls, then the franchise is a loser. i.e. Based on Araiza, is there anything in your past, that would cause you and this franchise problems in the future, should you be selected? Specifically, anything of a potential serious and/or criminal nature, we should know about?

Because, we will be looking for it and if you don’t advise us here, your future contract might be rendered void.

Hadn't heard that story, but very believable as Al likely wouldn't listen to anyone but himself.

That may be true at the moment, but the local stuff is being spread nationally.

Already seen 2 articles on Yahoo complaining about them. Here's the most recent one - https://www.google.com/amp/s/sports.yahoo.com/amphtml/bills-blast-matt-araiza-situation-092356838.html

Right, because the Bills are regular headliners on ABC’s World News Tonight like they are tonight.
