I hate when I'm told I have to "discuss" by your post. Why is that necessary? Isn't that inherently the point of these message boards? Or is it you just being lazy and not wanting to "discuss" the topic yourself? You put a post, a name, and "discuss." I'd like to "discuss" you possibly not telling us to "discuss" anymore.

I don't understand the purpose or point of him making these comments.  Not only does it help absolutely no one; he's also setting himself up to be sued/punished in the future.  But he's done nothing but show the world how much of a moron he is since he was hired as a HC, so I'm not surprised.

says still playing today.

if you pull the rosters from 2010 to 2015 I bet there aren’t many guys left in the league.

Landry, Richie, Tannehill… anybody else?

He's trying to say that teams will put up with virtually any behavior as long as the player produces on the field. Winning is the only thing that matters.

He's actually saying that teams are willing to let a player ruin his own life without offering any help or interventions, as long as he produces on the field. Winning matters more than people.

I mean, Tim Riggins was drunk the entire season when the Dillon Panthers won state. And then he got to date Lyla Garrity, so like, why aren't all of us going that route?

I mean deep down is anyone surprised. Colleges push athletes through with degrees that are borderline illiterate at times. Not all those guys are making it to NFL... then what? I think its more evil than at nfl level

Oh, I get all of that.  But he's also admitting to personally turning a blind eye, putting himself at risk.

I'm not sure he's saying the second.  Why do you ASS U ME the team didn't offer help or interventions?  The team may have done both.

But there's another side, which is if the employee is using legal intoxicants like alcohol, and is showing up on time for work, attending meetings, and doing good work (and football teams have lots of metrics for this), there are practical limits to what employers can do.

If the employer has rules against drinking in the building, and the employee is found to be drinking in the building, there's that of course.   If he's a jerk when he's drunk and he harasses the staff or creates issues for other players, there's "conduct detrimental".   If they have rules against walking in the door intoxicated, there's that, too.   But I'm not sure the NFLPA would allow teams to breathalyze a guy when he walks in the facility door every am?

This ticks me off Big Time, especially when "student athletes" on the football or men's basketball teams are taking enrollment spots and scholarship money that could be used by hardworking disadvantaged students who would make great use of the chance to go to college.
