With the 33rd pick the jacksonville jaguars select david ojabo edge michigan.

I know its doubling up on the position. I know its probably not popular but...

I think taking Hutchinson allows them to gamble AND wait.  The jags had success with myles jack who dropped and I think the value is excellent here.  A top 15 talent who can redshirt.  Does anyonw really think the jags are sb contenders no matter who the pick is?

The and Lions @NewEra are on the clock

Great upside pick there. Excellent value and fit imo

With the 34th pick, the Detroit Lions select Christian Watson, WR North Dakota St.

We need offensive threats and feel like we’ve added one in Christian Watson. 6’4 208 4.36 speed 32 1/2 inch arms and 10 1/8 inch hands.  Showed great improvement from 2020 to 2021 and feel that his best football is ahead of him.  He’s a nice compliment and slot WR St Brown. Chark is on a 1 year deal.  Khalid Raymond, Josh Reynolds, Quintez Cephus, all

solid, yet aren’t scaring anyone. Watson has some scare ability if he continues to improve

@GunnerBill and the jets are now on the clock.

  • Virgil changed the title to TSW Mock Draft 1.0 - The Jets (GunnerBill) are on the clock

With the 35th pick in the 2022 TSW Draft, the New York Jets select, Boye Mafe, Edge, Minnesota.

The New York Football Giants and @LEBills are now on the clock.

I passed on edge at #10 because I think there is more day 2 depth to the edge group than the corner group and that is broadly how it has played out. That said, had any of the three guys who went just before me got to this point I'd have picked them because they were sticking out BPA. Good job those 3 GMs. The Jets do have Carl Lawson to return at edge and while that should give them some added pass rush threat he only averaged 5 sacks a year in Cincinnati. Boye Mafe is a bit of a swing for the fences. There was a safer edge pick available here but Mafe is a physical freak, a super high RAS guy, and an explosive terror on the edge. He might be a little raw as a rookie but if he hits he can be an elite edge rusher in the NFL.

Man I like Mafe too. The bad part about draft crushes is that you only get to have one, if the team even picks one. But I am going to follow his career wherever he winds up. Except if its the Patriots

Meh, he's a low-ceiling player. I think you have to do better than that in the first.

If we're faced with that situation in real life, I hope we trade back, improve our 2 and take Tariq Woolen and the best available WR.

Woolen is fast and big, for sure, but he doesn’t look very smooth/athletic changing directions - at least to me.  Can he work on that?  I guess yes, it is a skill to develop, but he doesn’t really look ready to play in the NFL to me.  I do like that he seems to be a willing tackler.

  • Virgil changed the title to TSW Mock Draft 1.0 - The Giants (LEBills) are on the clock

With the 36th pick in the 2022 TSW Draft, the New York Giants select, Arnold Ebiketie, Edge, Penn State.

The Houston Texans and @manncare now on the clock.

The Giants are in desperate need of Edge production (one of many positional needs). We like Ebiketie’s explosion and length and that he has had major production at two schools, Temple and PSU. Though we thought about going with an off ball linebacker as their were several good ones on the board, we felt that a player with all the traits to get around the Edge was the right value at the start of the second round.

With the 37th pick in the 2022 TSW Mock Draft 1.0, the Houston Texans select Alec Pierce, WR, Univ of Cincinnati.

Even after the run on WRs at the end of round 1, we were excited that one of our top-rated guys was still on the board…WR is a huge need for us and we love Pierce’s size, speed and competitiveness at the catch point.

The NY Jests (GunnerBill) are on the clock.

With the 38th pick of the TSW Mock Draft, the New York Jets select, Chad Muma, Linebacker, Wyoming

For the first time in this draft the Chicago Bears and @Philo are on the clock!

I had the Jets taking Muma in round 2 in my recent mock and I liked the fit so much I am doing it again. I actually see a bit of Fred Warner in him. He has some way to go to match Warner's performances in the league but when I think about how Saleh used him in that 49ers defense I can see the fit here. Good size, good athleticism, fierce tackler he can play in base or sub. I see him starting on the strong side as a rookie and then taking over from CJ Mosely at MLB in 2023. We might have had the least talented defense in the entire NFL last season. With Booth, Mafe and Muma I feel like we have added some juice on that side of the ball.

Philo sent me his pick

Bears select Roger McCreary, DB, Auburn

Bears need help all over with the secondary being a particularly needy position group. McCreary should jump right in as a Day One starter and inject much needed athleticism to the group. I won’t divulge other positions that were considered as we have another pick coming up shortly.

The Seahawks are on the clock @Rock-A-Bye Beasley

I watched some Alec Pierce film for the first time yesterday after hearing Chris Simms talk about him and I was blown away. I don't know why he isn't getting more late 1st round buzz. The tape reminded me of DK Metcalf with a little less explosiveness but a lot better hands. The way he jumps up and snatches the ball out of the air it just looks like a true #1 WR.

I actually think where he went in this is a little early for him. I do think he is a 2nd rounder though. The reasons for me are two-fold. Lack of diversity in his route running. He runs the 9 route well, but he doesn't run a full route tree. The other is separation. He tested really well at the combine, but on the film..... man there are a lot of contested catches. Does he separate well enough? That is what holds him down as a day 2 grade for me. Love the size, love the toughness, love the hands. But he is a bit one dimensional for me at this point.

There are a lot of contested catches because Ridder is not a very good quarterback…so many underthrown balls…

You could copy and paste this into a DK Metcalf thread from 3 years ago and it would fit right in. I would hate to miss out on that caliber of WR twice, especially since we don't have anyone with that skill set on the team. That explosive downfield playmaking ability would add a missing element to our offense and mesh really well with Allen's strengths.

I think we overrate route running with WRs like Metcalf and Pierce. They separate by flying by everyone and launching into the air at the catch point. I'm hesitant on contested catch specialists as prospects (i.e. N'Keal Harry) but I wouldn't classify Pierce as the same thing. The catches aren't truly contested because he leaps over everyone and snatches the ball out of the air, and his hands are just about perfect in those situations.

Cover 1 has a film review on him and you see every type of catch on his tape - jumping high and falling down with the ball, catching a vertical pass at full speed over the shoulder or by extending out, catching a quick hitter and positioning his body and the ball to brace for a big hit. On a few plays he runs cleanly by his man and has a ton of separation downfield but Ridder inexplicably throws the ball to the other side of the field. Other times he has to slow down to catch an underthrown ball which turns into a contested catch through no fault of his own. So he can't run clean comeback routes... We already have that skillset in Diggs. We don't have anyone that can do what Pierce does down the field. He instantly became my new draft crush.

I agree Ridder's ball placement is some of the reason but it doesn't explain all of it. I think he wastes steps in his routes. He has plenty of speed so it should be fixable, but it is a legit issue on his film. He is a good prospect but he belongs on day 2 and there are other guys I'd take before him.

So the slightly one dimensional route tree is DK esque. But separation wasn't an issue for DK. He visibly separated.

This is a huge part of it. Underthrown or not thrown at all when he was open. Watching Pierce made me realize Ridder should be a day 3 pick.
