That saves them more than $7 million. Sterling Shepard released after June 1st saves about $8.5 million? How about trading James Bradberry - That would save them more than $12 million. You are probably right but still holding out hopes he's played his last down for this team and we move him now why he still has real value (maybe even a 1st rounder). The question is if they do try to extend Edmunds, do they have pay higher than they got Milano for? I don't believe he is as good as Milano but I would think he may feel slighted if he were tendered something below Milano's contract. Said it then........but picking up Edmunds' $12.7M option was clearly a mistake when they could have just transition tagged him for $2M more in the event that he had a REAL breakout season. His option figure was bloated by two Pro Bowl trips that made him look like a top 4 MLB in the NFL when he was just more like a top 10. Would have liked to see what playing to EARN that money would have done for him.........it's just human nature to play better when you have something on the line..........which Edmunds did not since his 2022 salary was already full guaranteed last spring. This year, Ed Oliver seems like a lock to get his option picked up as it's only $10M. The transition is currently about $3.5M more than that and the full on FT is about $7M more. Basically the spread is much higher than with Edmunds. My take on his is that he's simply miscast in this defensive scheme and not worth signing long term.
