Is it though? What is it supposed to mean anyway? I think at one point it was supposed to be a way to honor the best players in the game. That can often be subjective. But when you have outliers like Jackson making it this year over Burrow, Allen and Carr then it makes me think that must not be the meaning anymore. And yeah it probably lost it's meaning years ago.

Carr? I mean Josh is a given, as is Burrow, but Carr?

Honestly, I think it would be cool just to make it a skills competition for money and charities.

I have said it before, but they should make a big deal and presentation to make "All Pro" teams.  Maybe a 1st and 2nd team from each the AFC and NFC.  Probably roll out the league awards too.  Make a really nice show out of it.  Try to get players to play roles in the show, show personality, etc.

All star format just doesn't work well with this sport, especially with all the participants being individual 'brands' worth millions a year and have a lot to lose (and already over-worked).

I remember how cool the 'All Madden Team' show was.  If they did something like that but with 2021 technology and delivery... and make it important like the NFL can do...  it can be much better than a pro bowl.  Being all AFC/NFC/NFL will mean something too.  Not "Tyrod Taylor should get a larger contract because he was in the Pro Bowl (as the 9th alternate).

After todays games I took a look at the Pro Bowl roster for the AFC just to check how many players selected actually made the postseason and was pretty surprised. I know a lot of people believe the Pro Bowl is meaningless popularity contest, but it does matter as far as contract incentives and when players are making their cases for the HOF, so it does frame legacy. Shouldn't something be done about Pro Bowl voting? Yes, this is an individual award, I just have an issue with the Pro Bowl being FULL of players playing for teams who essentially failed the litmus test for a successful season and didn't even earn a chance to play for a championship.

Mods, please feel free to merge this to one of the other pro bowl threads if you want. I didn't think this was appropriate for the thread listing our pro bowlers so I figured a new one would be ok.

making the playoffs has nothing to do with positional player excellence.  It's really geared around individual player performance regardless of injury status, and for those reasons I don't think it's broken.  Where I think it's broken is how they have made a joke out of the game with all these changes.  I was far more inclined to watch it when it was after the superbowl, I don't know why that was for me, but I haven't watched it one time since they changed that alignment.

Yes, they should wait until the season is over to select the players, but I don't think it should matter if their teams make the playoffs or not. One would expect, though, that if the voting took place after the season that voters would factor team success into their thinking, especially for QBs. I think you would have a lot of worthy players getting passed up because they are on a bad team.

They should also change the game itself to flag football or some other alternative format - just do something entertaining where there's little risk of injury.  It's ridiculous to have a full contact game where everyone is desperately trying to avoid getting hurt. So many of the top players find any excuse not to go because of it.

I will play devils advocate for the players. It is a team sport and takes more than 1-2 players make a playoff team.

Herbert - deserves be there.

Bosa — of course deserves be there

Howard — had an meh year but still atop CB. Deserves be there.

fact is sometimes good players are on bad to mediocre teams. I mean during the drought does that mean no Bills players should have gone?
