Sports Illustrated: Bills Biggest Weakness, Defensive Tackle

The biggest weakness is TE, although Hollister might be better.

The worst injury loss would be Bass, followed by White. I believe there is a capable backup in every other position.

Losing Allen will probably take the team out of Superbowl contention, but Trubisky can keep the team competitive.

At first I thought TE, too. But the Bills TE's are marginal at worst, and maybe better if they get the improvement we all hope for. But if one goes down, they don't lose a lot, IMO.

It’s the old “it can’t get worse than _______” argument….Yes it certainly can!!!!

As bad as it might be, it can get worse.

As a position group, TE is still the biggest question mark.

DT is probably second but if Star plays well they will be fine. Depth is a challenge agreed but the starters are solid.. Oliver is primed for a breakout year prior to making a decision to pick up his option.

Agree the LB unit depth is good and better than it has been in years.

I know I'm beating a dead horse, but Edmunds is the single biggest question mark on the team when you consider how critical his position is. You can work around a substandard TE. You can't do that at MLB

It is hard for me to Billieve the Bills will be fine on the interior all year. Nearly every team we play is going to try hard to win the flock war and try to keep JA on the sidelines frustrated. Star only will play around one half of the game so that other one-tech has to really step up, so does the other three-tech. Then Milano and Edmunds really have to hit those gaps with authority. I don't know? I hope they're up to it all year..... I wish Harry was healthy.  I hope Butler feels it....and can play low and win.  Badham looked awesome on the breakdown but can he do it in the regular season?

I hope McD, Leslie and the DL coach know what they're doing.

Maybe Allen is so good he scores enough to make trying to sit him not really work? Once you're down 21 you really can't play that way.... IDK exactly why, but I think our O is even better than last year. That means we have to be healthier. That Sanders becomes a big cog. That the TE position contributes more. The RBs too. I think I'm in the minority, but I still want Ertz. I think it would help to have a lot of O go thru Ertz resting other key personnel. I rather it be Knox or Hollister, but I doubt their abilities. I think if Hollister goes off, it will be a huge NFL story. That LB's mom was a LB -kind of thing. Josh Allen's TE way back in 2016 is back tearing up the league for the first time in his careeer.

You are not beating a dead horse, you a beating a sack of vegan ground horse meat.

Clearly the Bills have a different opinion than you on Edmunds.

We'll see how valuable Tre is or isn't at the end of this year. Personally, I think he deserves quite a bit less than the Indy LB....

Hopefully, Edmunds changing my mind this year (and we win a Super Bowl).

Quick question. Do you think our current defense overall, whether good or bad, is ultimately linked to the play of the MLB?

I do in a way, and don't in a way..... I do because everything in this defense comes thru the MLB. I think if he is having a pro bowl season, So is the defense in a very real way. Thusly, if he is having a terrible year.....

But in another way, absolutely not. You could build this D with ten pro bowlers and only a decent MLB and clearly, it would still be very good.

Its just a matter of how you look at it....

Same thing happened to me the other day with a post. I even edited it to remove the extra posts, but they stuck. Pretty embarrassing when it happens to me. Funny when it happens to someone else!

Tribusky VS. Allen - - - In the bears game  I saw two plays that were incompletes for Tribusky that I feel would have definitely been TDs  with Allen in there..... The plays would have been a complete to Singletary in the endzone and a complete to Davis at around the 8 that would have been a sure TD.

And that my friends is a huge difference. Allen eats up TDs like blueberries.

Yes, my fiends, we have the best backup QB there is and he might get better, but Josh is king and for good reason.

We might have THE best QB in the NFL this season. What I think will determine that is the health of players around Mahomes, Allen and Rogers.

PS - I remember fans laughing at me when I said Allen's going to be like Rogers. I saw the improvement. I saw that it would keep going. I saw that we had the GM to make it possible.

PS - I think Miami should have made OL a bigger focus this offseason. Sure, they have four deadly weapons now but you need both; the line and the weapons. Beane got the right OC and OL coach and QB coach to boot. Miami's OC, Chan Gailey, retired, and they're are starting all over again. Not a good sign.

So.... you have to do it all to create that QB. The QB needs the raw skills and desire and Allen scored a ten at each. Then you need the GM. Then you need the coaches. Then you need the OL. Then you need the skill. Then you have a QB! (Maybe, But Allen scoring a ten in raw skills and desire raised the percentages of developing a franchise QB to good.

Who knows how good he'll get? He makes the NFL's best pass rushers look powerless at times. He can hit any spot on the field just about. I think he has the greatest range of possible completions in the NFL. And then if that's not there he can just take off and break a defenses heart.

Go Bills!

I do not think that a big, space-eating defensive tackle has to be the biggest concern.  There are a lot of 310+ pound  guys around and we can upgrade from butler from the waiver wire, a minor trade and from the 2nd or 3rd round in next year's draft.  CB and TE are next years high draft choice targets.  We will be picking in the 30,31,32 slot and should be able to get a starter at those positions in the first and second rounds.

Replacing Duke is their biggest concern.

Who will be the next marginal player and everyman hero ;)

Duke had a good 2 year run though ;)

You need a great TE when your QB has marginal arm strength and can't get it to the WR's.

We just need an OK TE that can catch the ball when its thrown to him he doesn't need to be a game breaker but if he turns into one thats great.

You only have one football to spread around and Diggs Sanders and Beasley are the preferred targets

I'm with you.  I'm far more concerned about the DT room (particularly since two of the three 1-techs appear not to be vaxxed and have to stay away from each other and the third 1-tech has a knee issue).  CB appears to be an issue as well.

This position has a dark cloud hanging over it. Star is a potential Covid protocols problem. Phillips has a knee injury and Boogie might profile more as an edge guy. That leaves Zimmer and Ankou with Butler, who they were looking to offload. Not my idea of positional strength. If we have problems stopping solid running attacks, Beane's inability to bring in a Dtackle will be the reason.
