Slot Recievers - McKenzie / Cole

What about Isaiah Hodgins in the slot... wasn't he supposed to be very quick cutting with sudden movements, and getting separation? I thought I heard that his short area shuttles were very fast. Wouldn't hurt to have a 6'3" WR in the slot on certain downs.

His Three cone drill was extraordinarily average, which is a good test of your agility

Shuttle time was a little better in the 75th percentile

Yeah, ranking McKenzie as a top-10 slot and Cole Beasley not, is a move by a guy who has never actually watched football and is going off TDs scored or some such silliness.

I love me some Lil' Dirty but as a slot receiver he isn't fit to carry Cole Beasley's shoestrings let alone his jockstrap.  He's getting better (McKenzie I mean) but it says it all that the Bills felt Beasley on a broken leg > McKenzie

This.

I mean, my goodness (and not to be a schmuck), but is anyone looking at CB fast twitch in first 2-3 yd off the line? It's beyond ridiculous. The symbiosis w SD is brutal for opposing Ds.

To say nothing of his preternatural skill in settling into an open zone, or carrying his route a few steps (deep or short) to give JA17 an open lane.

I'll be a contrarian (flames a' coming!) and say I cannot even believe we're talking about this.

In this sense: the Bills KNOW what they have in this guy and--whatever the hell it may be--they'll ensure he's a contributing team member this year, via whatever means available.

Jay Skurski indicate Cole could be a potential cut given our depth of slot receivers and his vaccine stance / his injury issues. To me, the guy is a warrior who played through a broken leg, so being injured but still suiting up and playing well is the whole best ability is availability thing.

https://heavy.com/sports/buffalo-bills/cole-beasley-could-be-surprise-cut/

USAToday ranked the top slot recievers and A Buffalo Bill placed 7th, but it was Mckenzie not Cole that go the nod from Doug Farrar. I actually found it odd that jarvis Landry was not on this list more than Cole not being on the list, but ...

I Like Isaiah a lot, but when it is crunch time, Josh looks for one of three people to make a play, Stefon, Cole, and himself with his legs).

I do not see us letting either Cole or Isaiah go this year. Next year, well maybe next year.

McKenzie has found this article and is advertising it on Instagram.

Prediction: soon Cole is going to be far too busy fending off the Trash talk from McKenzie to hit the Twitters.

Really annoying that you need to have account to read it.  Created one but have no desire to post in it.

For Cole it was a cracked not broken leg.  There is a difference and I have had it.

This is all about having confidence in the leg while being in full NFL gear and being hit by players full force that are usually 20 pounds heavier than him or higher it is a little bit of a difference limeaid

I said call was a good wide receiver whenever he came in from Dallas when people were calling him a jag

Having said that if things go south because he comes up Covid positive and takes players down with him this board is going to get really ugly

This may be a really bad take-- but I think the surprise WR cut (if there is one) will be E. Sanders.

No chance IMO. Sanders’ versatility will come in handy especially when or if players start getting injured. If Diggs goes down, he’s the only guy I feel comfortable with sliding into the #1 spot.

I like Isaiah a lot too, but he just doesn’t have the frame to be a 50-55+ catch kind of guy. He is a splash player. If you can get him in space via design plays, he can be a valuable contributor.

I think he can get you maybe 40-45 catches a year, which is about his max, I think. That’s still valuable given his skill set though, given that he’s an athletic marvel and can take it to the house on any given play and he must be accounted for, but he has a very small frame/bone structure, he can easily get hurt. If used tastefully he is a very solid #4 and I hope the Bills hang onto him, at the right price.

I think he could get 4 catches a game (68 catches) realistically.

Two each his own. I don’t see Isaiah as a natural route runner, nor do I see him as being big enough to break free from physical press corners and once again he has a very slight athletic build and small bone structure. I don’t see his body as big enough to handle the abuse of 68 catches. I kind of see him as a Roscoe Parrish type of player except Roscoe may have actually been a wee bit bigger.

This is absolutely insane and solely fueled by this writer not liking Cole's stances on certain things.

How did we go from McKenzie being on the bubble to him supplanting the best slot WR in the NFL? It's madness.

Beasley is good.  Tough catches hes money.  I think usage is a big impact on his play.  Mckenzie adds a differant dimension to the position.  I do believe Beaselys overall impact on the success of the offense is over stated.  Give Mckenzie the same targets I think the difference in production would be slim.  Allen is going to inflate some wr numbers.  Beasley IMO is over playing his hand.  He is not bigger than Mcdermotts process.  He either gets on the train or he will be left at the tracks.

Beasley wins the pot then because he's not bluffing and his impact on the offense is understated.  Don't understand all the hate he is garnering when he has done nothing wrong and is a great teammate.

I've got a bucket of dirt I'd like to trade for some gold.

The team has been fairly clear that they want to keep things in house and avoid making this a distraction and he's repeatedly disregarded that, now agree or don't with his opinion but McDermott isn't going to like being ignored.

Well if McDermott gets rid of Beasley for making his own health decisions that would make him ######ed.

Have you had your fingers in your ears going "Lalala" through all this?  Beasley's health decisions are not the issue here.

Announcing that he won't follow NFL/NFLPA agreed protocol, possibly causing the team to be fined or penalized draft choices is the issue.

"Being a distraction" by posting all kinds of stuff on Twitter is potentially the issue, IF McDermott, Beane, or player leadership asked him to keep it "in house"

Different doctors say different things.  Mine told me it was a fracture/crack and if it was a bone broken treatment would have been different.

There's no difference between a fracture and a break. A fracture is any loss of continuity of the bone. Anytime the bone loses integrity—whether it's a hairline crack barely recognizable on an X-ray or the shattering of bone into a dozen pieces—it's considered a fracture. ask google..

There are different treatments for different fractures/breaks. That being said they mean the same thing. you just misunderstood.

Yea and back in the day I used to lead the chants for Gary Marangi to replace Joe Ferguson.  Maybe Hodgins will be a great player. Hell I hope he is.  But right now Beasley IS a great player and one of the top 3 slot receivers in the game.  Now, when the Bills are on the cusp of a Super Bowl is not the time to lose sight of this.

Hopefully they can work this out behind closed doors in training camp.

Amen! 100% on target. I don't want to turn this into a political post (there are more appropriate venues for that) - but a member of the media, who makes a living off of airing out his opinions on matters, who would denigrate someone else solely for speaking out about his beliefs angers me. Apparently freely speaking out is something that is "good for me, but not good for thee" to a guy like this. Disgusting.

Enough with the free speech nonsense.

Nobody is having a problem with the fact that he's exercising his right to free speech. That's not the problem. It's what he's saying. It's the effects what he's saying might have on the team, on his competitive status.

It's perfectly possible for someone to exercise his right of free speech to make an ass of himself. In fact, that's generally how it's done.

This isn't a free speech issue, it really isn't. I can call my boss some unprintable names, and it won't be the fact that I used my free speech that will get me fired. It will be how I used it. Free speech doesn't protect me from getting canned for saying something that will have negative results and consequences for my company. The freedom of your speech does NOT imply that you are guaranteed a lack of consequences for what you say.

Sorry, your spin there is so violent, the centrifugal force is warping gravity.

It is in no way his health decisions that are causing problems for the team. Whether he takes supplements, whether he is sleeping eight or nine hours a day, how healthy he's eating and how many sports massages he's receiving, that ain't the problem.

It's turning things into a public issue. It's the willingness to risk the health of others, the willingness to cause his team competitive disadvantages based on NFL rules, and probably the willingness to make his response very difficult to predict, something teams don't like.

IMO he's not going to get cut unless he's causing consistent controversy and distraction. That could happen, though my guess is it won't.

But he also might end up retiring. That could happen and there doesn't appear to be any way to tell whether the odds on that are low or high. It's just up to Beasley and how he feels. And if that decision drags on too long, it could cause the kind of distraction and controversy that would irritate this FO.

This.

There's a related point that people often misunderstand.   Free speech has never applied to private businesses.  Businesses have always had the right to restrict their employee's conduct, even off-hours.  And a lot of them do - they make it clear that you WILL NOT comment on our business or anything related to it, all questions are to be re-directed to our PR office.  I know someone fired for giving a statement to the media after a lockdown at our site due to a shooting.  She thought it didn't fall under that umbrella, the company disagreed.  Give the security officer your badge, he will escort you to your desk to retrieve your purse and any critical items then to your car, you will be notified within 30 days of a time when you can retrieve the rest of your personal belongings.

For Cole to go on Twitter (as he did) and openly state that he's not going to follow the rules laid down by his employer, that's NOT protected as a free speech right.  He's doing it because he considers he's valuable enough to the team that he's not going to be cut for it and he's saying he doesn't care if he is cut, he's made his $$.

But it's not free speech, and the NFL and team could quite reasonably consider saying "your rules suck and I won't follow 'em" as "conduct detrimental".

Yes, Hap, exactly right on the private businesses point as well.

This is the entirety of the first amendment, guaranteeing free speech:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." And while it is Congress only that is specifically mentioned, it has been taken to guarantee that government may not abridge your right to free speech in those ways.

Until such time as the Buffalo Bills become a governmental organization, the Bills, and businesses generally, are permitted to abridge that right. Otherwise, businesses wouldn't be allowed to fire guys who publicly announced secret business strategies, tweeted the combination to the office safe, or called a press conference to announce that anyone who didn't sell every share of stock they owned was flat out nuts.

With recent posts from Diggs and Sanders it doesnt look like the team is united around Beasley.  I would bet Buffalo is one of the higher vaccinated teams.  Beasley one of the holdouts keeping the team from having the required %.  That split and constant distraction makes the situation notable.  Him posting threats to team is just dumping jet fuel on the situation.

The doctor's definition was if the bone is still connected it is cracked but if it was separated into 2 or more pieces it was broken.

I broke my arm playing football.   It hurt but I could still play but when the adrenalin stopped rushing through me the two parts of the bone separated from each other and my arm moved very unnaturally - it was in Z shape.
