SinceThe70s
RIP. Back in the day cassettes were how I shared music with friends. It was a given that when you bought an album you'd record it on cassette for your friends. But I don't miss pulling that cassette out of the player in the car and seeing a long trail of tape because it got munched. And then using a pen to spin the tape back into the cassette and hoping it didn't sound like sh!t - or get munched again.

Cantankeous
Remember 97 Rock DJs telling what songs would be played in the next segment so I’d get the recorder set to make tapes. But the bastards would talk over the start of the song and again near the ending!😡

Granted, it was only top 'pop 40 drivel' on am, but still annoying.

Irv
Cassettes used to have those knock out tabs on the top. I remember putting masking tape over them to re-use the cassette.

I'm fortunate enough to have missed out on the 8 tracks. I remember listening to an 8 track in someone's car and a song fading out, a clicking sound as the track changed and the same song fading back up and thinking....WTF!?!? But at that point cassettes were around (maybe not in cars yet?) so I guess that's akin to so many WTF moments my kids have with me.

There were a couple 8-tracks in the glove compartment and one of them was Boston, LOL.

That song still resonates. My brother was really hard on his tapes, used to bug me that he’d put the wrong tape back. I’d not complain as he bad his mates, older, would let me copy their albums. I still have all mine, took pride in trying to write the bands name in same font they used, metal bands has same great calligraphy... And they work. I got the original for the Judas Priest “Live” album awhile back, I forget now, but one of the tracks wouldn’t fit on the cassette, it was a double album, it just ended with the tape and I thought that was how it always ended...

Rust in Peace had many many rotations in my early years. Such a great album.
