Trump's railing about schools reopening, so might as well talk about it

So I've been a native for 35 years?  Huh.....

Do you have a certificate? Native status doesn't just happen. I suppose if you've done enough coke & weed you can become a Quasi Californian but that status just sends out questionable vibes to LA's Finest.

All NYS school administrators have found the way out of this pickle, and you'll hear the full court (union) media press in the next couple of weeks.  They "can" open safely, but they don't have the funding to do so.  Hide behind the non-existent money, and all is well.  Any other choice gets their butts fired and their retirements could be affected.  This is 100% a done deal at this point, any further discussion is stupid.  Reconvene after the election and see which way the wind (union) is blowing then.

Lay off all of the teachers unwilling to go to work.

WAIT, I THOUGHT ONLY CRAZED RIGHT WINGERS WHO WANT TEACHERS TO DIE!!!! WERE SAYING THIS:

Bill Gates on back to school: Benefits in ‘almost every location’ outweigh costs for young children.

If teachers don’t want to teach kids in the fall, don’t pay ’em. Give the money to parents.

Worked then, but actually he fired them.

In Orange County Florida we as teachers got to put in preference for face to face, straight online, or live lessons online.( With straight online you don't teach much but have more students) but teachers who can not get a doctor note saying they are high risk they can be forced to teach face to face. I am going face to face and will just be careful but I actually am pleased with my superintendent with this because it allows those in real danger to be safe but can force whiners into work.

Mayor Bowser tells the truth.  Holy cow!

This got virtually no national coverage yesterday:

"Students who do not have Internet access or a computer at home will be provided with the necessary technology, the mayor’s office said. Schools Chancellor Lewis Ferebee said D.C. had been collecting data from more than 13,000 respondents and found 44 percent of students do not have access to a device at home.

Health officials, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the CDC and Dr. Anthony Fauci, have warned of dire secondhand consequences if children are not brought back to school.

“You know, I’m just going to speak candidly, if we don’t have teachers who want to come in person, we would have to find another set of adults who want to come in person,” Bowser said, according to WTOP."

She just said, the unions are the problem, and it's safe to be in schools.

Little effect on the kids (good), tons—stunning amounts— of asymptomatic transmission (bad).

The camp had a no mask policy for kids. Lots of group singing and interaction.

Fall school openings will be a  moment to watch for community spread.

That’s not what it said.

Most people had symptoms and that they said asymptomatic transmission “may” have occurred.   In other words they don’t know.

Also this is a setting where there were many staffers that were in settings with the students for long periods of time.   Very highly likely that the staffers infected the students.

Whoever was making the connection to this and implications for schools is a moron.   Two totally different set of dynamics.  But never underestimate the mainstream media, their mainstream viewers and politicians to somehow equivocate the two.

Oh, wearing cloth masks in this setting would have done zilch.

Overnight sleepaway camps are different than school settings.  It would be prudent to learn from other countries about reopening schools and here's a decent article on that subject.

You look at the massive number of cases and think there was no spread among kids? It’s possible you’re right. Seems unlikely given the prevalence.

Masks help reduce transmission. They didn’t use them so we will never know.

Other countries with low case counts are reopening schools without spikes. We have to reopen schools, though some states are giving in to fear/panic and won’t. I can’t predict what the case trans implications will be. This camp is anecdote, not predictive data.

Here's the critical half of the equation you guys never seem to bother with when making this argument:

How did those other countries do in terms of controlling the virus?

THE EFFECT, HOWEVER, WAS BASICALLY LIKE THE FLU:

44% of attendees at Georgia overnight camp test positive for COVID-19.

“Among 136 cases with available symptom data, 26% patients reported no symptoms.

For the 100 with symptoms, the most common were fever, 65%; headache, 61%, and sore throat, 46%, the agency said.”

This is a rant and I know this is anecdotal but just got out of first meeting of year with about 40 people in meeting room, the rest teleconference. 8 people were hugging, and hovering around each other for several minutes until my principal had to actually tell them to separate. The reason I am so pissed is these 8 are some of the biggest union people who have publicly bitched about having to return to school and how schools will not do a good job of stopping the virus. I was not overly worried about getting sick at school until I saw them because how can I discipline a child when they can't be responsible?

Different Perspective

The charter school is a threat to my job just as other banks were a threat when I was in banking. If I can't convince people I am their best option for their kids, why should they be stuck with me? No one of intelligence argues that competition causes worse results for the consumer, no matter the industry.

If she had simply stating it was at end of quarter and they would reevaluate it in early October would have at least given the possibility of it being anything except politics. Her acting like she does not understand the question shows how few times she gets asked a hard question.

That is very accurate. Their demands have been distributed in writing.

So when your average leftist tries to argue for shutting down schools, remember what they REALLY want...and it has nothing to do with anyone's safety.

‘Boom! There it is.’ Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan tells Montgomery County where they can stick their anti-private-school stunt

Last Friday, the Montgomery County, Maryland, Health Officer issued a directive prohibiting private, parochial, and independent schools from opening for in-person instruction until October 1 (at the earliest).

No question the Montgomery County Health Officer’s decision wasn’t driven by concern for the welfare of children, but rather by pure politics and deference to teachers unions.
