Nice article from Nature about what to possibly expect going forward with the pandemic.  The most important part of this article is the last paragraph.

Quote

There is one thing that every country, city and community touched by the pandemic has in common. “There is so much we still don’t know about this virus,” says Pulliam. “Until we have better data, we’re just going to have a lot of uncertainty.”

....so where is the MSM coverage about 29 MILLION versus Covid-19?......no political capital here (COUGH)............

From Contagion® is a fully integrated news resource covering all areas of infectious disease.

US Flu Cases Reach 29 Million: Have We Hit Peak Season?

FEB 27, 2020 | MICHAELA FLEMING

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that there have been 29 million influenza cases in the United States in the 2019-20 season.

Influenza activity remains high, as it has been in recent weeks, but the latest flu data indicates that activity decreased slightly this week.

Overall, visits to clinicians for influenza-like-illness decreased from 6.7% last week to 6.1% this week. However, all US regions remain above baseline in reporting outpatient influenza-like-illness occurrence.

According to the latest FluView data, there have been 280,000 hospitalizations for influenza recorded as of February 15, 2020. This figure is consistent with hospitalization rates at this point in time during recent seasons; however, hospitalization rates among children and young adults are considered higher than in recent seasons.

The CDC also indicates that mortality related to pneumonia and influenza has been low during this respiratory virus season. So far, there have been 16,000 flu-related deaths documented during the US influenza season. Of these, there have been 105 influenza-associated deaths among children.

Earlier this season, Contagion® reported that influenza B/Victoria was the predominant strain in the US this season. At this point in time, there has been a decrease in the percentage of specimens testing positive for influenza B, although the percentage of specimens testing positive for influenza B is on the rise.

What a clueless uneducated man in denial

Trump believes players' age and health make them less vulnerable to the risks, citing "one of the great doctors" he spoke with who supported this rationale but did not name the doctor.

“The (virus) attacks old people very viciously. These football players are very young, strong people, physically," Trump said. "I mean, they’re physically in extraordinary shape.

So, they’re not going to have a problem (with the virus). You’re not going to see people – could there be, could it happen? But I doubt it. You’re not going to see people dying. And many people get it and they have... like kids they get it they have the sniffles. Young kids, almost none have a serious problem with it.

WTF have we seen when these YOUNG people went to Spring Break and Summer Vacations at beaches????????

And based on that and how wrong the experts have been about a lot of it we should stop killing our economy and get everything open again.

I’m not sure people have stopped to realize how much time has passed since the virus first made the front page. It’s the middle of August! The world hasn’t ended. Our civilization has become so isolated from infectious diseases that almost nobody alive has any reference point. In my little corner of America the vast majority of people are getting up and going to work every day. Restaurants are busy every weekend, but the tables are outside now. I can go on and on, but it’s clear the private sector has adapted despite the government doing everything they can to put their boot on the throat of the population. Keeping schools and churches closed is nothing more than a last ditch attempt to annoy the citizens prior to the election.

We could easily test the kids weekly and do conditioning drills individually. They could also make all practices non contact while enforcing a no party policy while season is going on. Players who defy rules can't play that week. To a young in shape person Covid is less a threat than the flu.

So they post a visual showing they currently estimate there has been over 100 million global infections as of July.  That there will be almost 300 million by March.  Then claim this:

It is estimated that 55–80% of a population must be immune for this to happen, depending on the country11.

Unfortunately, early surveys suggest there is a long way to go. Estimates from antibody testing — which reveals whether someone has been exposed to the virus and made antibodies against it — indicate that only a small proportion of people have been infected, and disease modelling backs this up.

A study of 11 European countries calculated an infection rate of 3–4% up to 4 May12, inferred from data on the ratio of infections to deaths, and how many deaths there had been. In the United States, where there have been more than 150,000 COVID-19 deaths, a survey of thousands of serum samples, coordinated by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, found that antibody prevalence ranged from 1% to 6.9%, depending on the location13.

"Surveys suggest" we actually don't.  And that's if immunity is as high as 50-80%.

Do these people even hear themselves.  Know how they sound?  So we're expected to "distance" for years?  Is that the plan?

Tell me how thats possible.  No large events ever.  No school.  No interscholastic athletics.  No nothing.

But hey you can at least order curbside to go.

So, "Reality Check" thinks nearly 170,000 deaths from Covid-19 in a little more than six months is funny.  Well, for those of you who think the same, ponder these facts:

  • From the first reported American military death in WW II on December 7, 1941 through August 15, 1945 when Japan agreed to unconditional surrender was 1348 days – three years, eight months, and nine days.  US military deaths during that time numbered 405,399 or about 301 per day.
  • From the first reported death in the US from Covid-19, February 6, 2020, until yesterday, August 15, 2020 is 192 days – six months and ten days.  Covid-19 deaths in the US during that time number 169,405 or about 882 per day.
  • If American soldiers had died at the same rate that Americans are currently dying of Covid 19, the US military deaths for WW II would have numbered 1,188,936.
  • More Americans have died of the cornavirus in the last six months than the 153,090 American military personnel who died in WW I (116,516) and the Korean War (36,574).
  • The CDC recently projected that as many 200,000 Americans could die of Covid 19 by Labor Day, September 7, 2020, which would be 11,310 fewer deaths than the US military suffered in WWI, the Korean War, and the Vietnam Conflict (58,220) combined.

Really, the stuff of comedy!!!

Now that's some real extrapolation! On September 11, 2001 approximately 3000 people of all walks lost their lives in the matter of basically 2 hours. That's about 36,000 people per day. If we were to have lost that many people per day throughout the length of the war with Japan we would have lost 48,528, 000 people. This means nothing but is about as pertinent as your comparisons. Reminder--------------------this is not the Kiddie Table down here and horseshit posts don't fly.

So  Don is rewarding states that kiss his ass...  and yet

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, one of President Trump's closest allies, is rejecting the extra unemployment benefits provided by an executive measure from Mr. Trump. The executive measure provided an additional $300 in unemployment benefits per week, but it required states to kick in another $100.

Trump tweeted on Friday that the first four states — Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana and New Mexico — had been approved for aid.  4 of 50.

170 Thousand DEAD and 5.41 Million known infected US residents.

It Is What It Is.  - Donald Trump

Had the Agent of Death demanded masks BY April, when the heat came, the Us would be if far better shape.

Is there even ONE TIME when you’re going to tell us what you’re actually in favor of, instead of the non stop Trump hate? If you think you’re changing minds, you’re not. You’re just wasting your time....lots of it!

Hoax.  You post nothing but horseshit.  So there’s that.

This whole thing is a waste of time.  But it’s fun.  Let’s be real: on the one side of this divide we have a lot of angry white dudes who lap up whatever gibberish Trump comes up with and engage in the most extreme of gymnastics to defend his absurdities.  On  the other side we have a handful of people who engage in the crazy business of believing in things like science and law and truth.  You won’t convince anyone who believes in the latter three things.  And I won’t convince the crazies here of anything.  But it’s definitely amusing to make fun of you!

Trump sucks.  He went national today to convince his mouth breathing, trailer-dwelling followers that he has fast-tracked a vaccine.  The plasma technique might actually work, so it’s not as hoaxy as Lysol and hyrdoxychloroquine and oleander, but it’s not proven and definitely not a vaccine.  His dopey base will buy it, and that’s all he really cares about.
