Cancel Culture’s Dual Meaning Is a War for America’s Soul by Ken Blackwell Original Article “Cancel culture” is a double entendre of the dangerous kind. It is not just about canceling individuals or entities who offend leftist activists and their myopic group of minions, it is about fundamentally canceling America. The rabid left is actively rewriting American history as being inherently bad from the start, as it has no excuse to change our culture if there is anything arguably good about it. Therefore, our values, historical narrative, monuments and anything that makes us uniquely American must be disparaged and destroyed. Tyrants throughout history have practiced cancel culture by forcibly suppressing opposition to their authoritarianism with methods similar to what the American left is using today.

So today capitalism has out-lived its usefulness.” – Letter to Coretta Scott, July 18, 1952. “In a sense, you could say we’re involved in the class struggle.” –Quote to New York Times reporter, José Igelsias, 1968. “And one day we must ask the question, ‘Why are there forty million poor people in America? And when you begin to ask that question, you are raising questions about the economic system, about a broader distribution of wealth.’ When you ask that question, you begin to question the capitalistic economy. And I’m simply saying that more and more, we’ve got to begin to ask questions about the whole society…” –Speech to Southern Christian Leadership Conference Atlanta, Georgia, August 16, 1967. “Capitalism forgets that life is social. And the kingdom of brotherhood is found neither in the thesis of communism nor the antithesis of capitalism, but in a higher synthesis.” –Speech to Southern Christian Leadership Conference Atlanta, Georgia, August 16, 1967. “Call it democracy, or call it democratic socialism, but there must be a better distribution of wealth within this country for all God’s children.” – Speech to the ***** American Labor Council, 1961. “We must recognize that we can’t solve our problem now until there is a radical redistribution of economic and political power… this means a revolution of values and other things. We must see now that the evils of racism, economic exploitation and militarism are all tied together… you can’t really get rid of one without getting rid of the others… the whole structure of American life must be changed. America is a hypocritical nation and [we] must put [our] own house in order.” - Report to SCLC Staff, May 1967. “The evils of capitalism are as real as the evils of militarism and evils of racism.” –Speech to SCLC Board, March 30, 1967. “I am now convinced that the simplest approach will prove to be the most effective – the solution to poverty is to abolish it directly by a now widely discussed matter: the guaranteed income… The curse of poverty has no justification in our age. It is socially as cruel and blind as the practice of cannibalism at the dawn of civilization, when men ate each other because they had not yet learned to take food from the soil or to consume the abundant animal life around them. The time has come for us to civilize ourselves by the total, direct and immediate abolition of poverty.” – Where do We Go from Here?, 1967. “You can’t talk about solving the economic problem of the ***** without talking about billions of dollars. You can’t talk about ending the slums without first saying profit must be taken out of slums. You’re really tampering and getting on dangerous ground because you are messing with folk then. You are messing with captains of industry. Now this means that we are treading in difficult water, because it really means that we are saying that something is wrong with capitalism.” – Speech to his staff, 1966. “[W]e are saying that something is wrong … with capitalism…. There must be better distribution of wealth and maybe America must move toward a democratic socialism.” – Speech to his staff, 1966. “If America does not use her vast resources of wealth to end poverty and make it possible for all of God’s children to have the basic necessities of life, she too will go to hell.” - Speech at Bishop Charles Mason Temple of the Church of God in Christ in support of the Memphis sanitation workers’ strike on March 18th, 1968, two weeks before he was assassinated. A measure of pain inflicted on those who inflict it tends to teach them that attempting to dominate someone results in very real pain. One doesn’t even necessarily have to win the fight. Inflict damage and the bully begins to have second thoughts about making you a victim. So how do we do this to cancel culture? ...our real target isn’t the people doing the canceling, it’s the businesses that are caving. What cancel culture really is, is a boycott war at its heart. Cancel culture wouldn’t have any teeth if businesses and government bodies didn’t capitulate. This means that the moment a business caves to cancel culture, not only must you make them understand that what they did was wrong through social media, but do what Americans have done for ages and begin voting with your wallet. China uses cancel culture on NBA, US farmers and more. The cc threat is often just as effective as the deed. The liberals use cc often, but defeating it is not easy bc he who strikes first usually wins if businesses cave like the NFL Redskins.

B-Man
THEY TRIED TO HANG THAT SIGN ON ME, I SAID TAKE IT DOWN: I Survived Cancellation at Princeton. “I emphatically do not want anyone to come away with the impression that I feel victimized. Yes, I’m bruised and angry, and sad because so many people who privately say they agree with me are too frightened to state their opinions publicly. But everyone has the right to free speech—my critics and I equally. I am certain that the university president was motivated by a concern for the Princeton community, as I was. We were both defending people we believe have been wronged. Each of us has every right to do this, and while we disagree about what constitutes offensive rhetoric, this is not a scandal.” Overly generous, in my opinion. Charity is nice, but the way to kill cancel culture is to make it painful — even if only moderately so — for its proponents. Bad behavior that is costless is far more appealing than bad behavior that has any costs at all attached.

Mark my words, the major sports league are the ones that will be hurt the most with all of this pandering. It's almost as if each of the sports leagues are watching what the others have done and, much like how NYC followed Italy's (failed) model, none of them are noticing that the others are IMHO getting it wrong but plowing ahead regardless. "We skate for black lives." Could they possibly come up with a more pandering motto? Politically, right now, they're each afraid of the consequences of not "showing support." But they can express support without bashing people over the head with it. And IMHO the majority of all the audiences want to watch sports to get away from reality for a few hours and pretend that whether Columbus beats Toronto matters in the grand scheme of things. It doesn't but at least what's going on inside the glass is "normal." (What could be more normal than TO choking in the playoffs. ) Yes, the virus is still with us. Yes, too much of the country is still shut down for many to get back to normal. Yes, we're still waiting for politicians to decide whether the kids can go back to school. Yes, Portland and other cities are getting ravaged every night. Wherever we go, masks and fear are prevalent. We need to stay vigilant to keep from allowing hatred to step into the chaos and lead. There are many that want hate to lead. Having a bit of normalcy would help with keeping the fear and hatred at bay, again IMHO. Celebrate the good things that have & are happening both with regards to this virus and race/interpersonal relations. There's 21 other hours in the day to have the negatives highlighted. We don't need it 24/7. (Stated way less eloquently than desired. Just don't have the time to flesh it out better. Oh, well.)
B-Man
THIS IS THE PLAN OF COURSE: Americans Are Self-Censoring at Record Rates. As usual, it’s the worst for the Outer Party: “So what does predict who is reluctant to speak up? The answer is that Americans are more likely to self-censor the more urban and educated they are. In a surprising reversal of the usual trends of political participation, in which citizens who have more resources feel more empowered to take an active role in civic life, it is the urbanites and the highly educated who are most afraid to speak their mind.”

Did they stop to think about the thousands of black and Latino workers Goya employs?” asked Francisco Marte, secretary of the New York Bodega and Small Business Association, writing in a recent op-ed for The New York Post. A simple GoFundMe effort launched in mid-July was intended to raise $10,000 to buy GOYA products and distribute them to food banks. The effort has raised $328,000 as of Monday. GOYA food donations are now arriving in multiple states — and soon — to national food bank warehouses that can distribute large deliveries. The article goes on to mention Trader Joe’s also pushing back against cancel culture. At Ricochet, Bethany Mandel writes, “How to Handle to Mob: Stop Apologizing:” Ellen [DeGeneres] and her producers need to take the Trader Joe’s tactic: responding to a petition that some of their labels were racist, the supermarket chain pushed back and defended themselves, saying they are not racist and they’re not going anywhere.
