POLICE IN CITY WILL USE NETS TO SUBDUE THE DERANGED
By Barbara Basler
Jan. 27, 1981

New York City police officers, who have been forced to handle a growing number of cases involving mentally disturbed people, will begin using fire extinguishers and huge nets this week when they answer such calls.

Officials said the fire extinguishers contained a harmless bicarbonate-of-soda mixture that is sprayed at the person to disorient him while a 10-by-14-foot net is cast over him.

Three ropes are attached to the net so that it can be pulled taut, throwing the person to the ground with his arms pinned to his sides. Patrick J. Murphy, chief of operations of the New York Police Department said that it handled 21,000 ''E.D.P.'' - emotionally disturbed person'' - calls in 1980. He said the department had been searching for ways to subdue violent or threatening deranged persons without harming them or endangering the police.

He said he believed the nets would will prove effective, but acknowledged that ''they may be controversial.'' ''It doesn't look too nice when you see a fellow enveloped in a cloud of smoke and netted - almost like an animal,'' he said, ''but all this is is an attempt not to hurt these people.'

But the doctor, who asked to remain unidentified, conceded that ''the police have a tough job, trying to control the uncontrollable,'' and he said ''this might be a good answer.''

I'm seeing the opportunity for a new reality TV series.  Call it "Nets and Nuts".  Add in sports betting on which cop will net the mentally disturbed suspect and you might have a hit replacement for all the shows that cancelled filming because of COVID.

Or maybe the city can consider avoiding the problem altogether by evaluating their policy that puts these mentally disturbed people out in the streets and avoids giving them the care and treatment they need.

Just watch Yellowstone. They still use the lasso.

I have a few questions for the "defund police" activists.

1. What police force(s) do you want defunded?

2. What is their current operating budget?

3. What is the optimal budget for a police force for the area(s)?

4. What data did you use to arrive at your answers?

They have no clue.  My suggestion is put the idea to a vote of the citizens living in the communities instead of bowing to the wishes of political activists from out-of-town.  Polls indicate putting the question on the ballot for voters to decide would result in the idea being soundly defeated by about 80% against to 20% for.

And it would only be that high voting "for" because they'd use illegal voting...

JIM TREACHER: After Trying to Defund Police, Minneapolis City Council Asks: ‘Where Are the Police?’

You want to get rid of the police? This is what it looks like. When you stop enforcing the law, you get anarchy and chaos. You get ruined lives and billions in damages. The only thing worse than cops is no cops.

And that’s after we saw nonsense like this, from Minneapolis City Council President Lisa Bender:
bender_calling_police_white_priviledge_0

And speaking of nonsense in Minneapolis: Minneapolis Won’t Let Riot-Battered Stores Install Security Shutters.

In a report justifying the rule change, Minneapolis officials argued that external shutters “cause visual blight” and create the impression that an area is “unsafe” and “troublesome.”

After looters crashed through his floor‐to‐ceiling windows and stole $1 million worth of booze in May, Chicago‐Lake Liquors owner John Wolf wanted to protect himself from a repeat occurrence. … The [forbidden] investment [in security shutters] would not only prevent rioters from entering his store, it would protect his windows — which cost $50,000 to replace.

Minneapolis will have more “visual blight” than it knows what to do with for years after this past summer’s Biden Riots.

The shooter is shorter than the Cop car and likely to weigh about 75 lbs. it’s gotta be a teenager and likely a female (traditionally speaking of course).

Typical Liberal approach: Attack the 'problem' immediately in front of you but never think about the consequences.  So you get rid of the 'nasty, bad actor' police officers and the result will be that honest, hardworking people abandon the community, leaving only criminals.  Then, years go by and you wonder what happened.  Typical!

You see (saw) the same thing with the Mortgage bubble, the Student Loan bubble, Deforestation, Fracking bans, and on, and on, and on.

Say Her Name: Claudia Apolinar, Los Angeles Sheriff's Deputy Hero

‘By the grace of God they’re both going to pull through. They’re obviously pretty injured and it’s going to be life-altering but they’re in stable condition,’ he said.

The lieutenant praised the two deputies’ ‘will to survive, their will to protect each other, their will to protect the public.’

‘They didn’t give up, they didn’t cower down,’ he said. ‘They got out and took care of each other, took cover, made sure it wasn’t an active shooter situation. You’ve got to praise them for their courage and ability to fight for their lives and everybody else’s lives.

‘It’s an extreme situation. She was shot in the face, shot in the upper torso several times. To have the wherewithal to get yourself out of the vehicle and the line of fire in case it continues, but then to take care of your partner, initiate radio traffic make sure the civilians in the area are safe, it shows a lot about her courage and intestinal fortitude.’

They're idiots. They complain about a paucity of services and stores in their neighborhood but then steal the stores blind to the point that the stores leave the area due to their losses.

FBI seeks accused rioter previously released by Portland Police.

“According to the FBI statement about Singlestad, he allegedly resisted arrest, pulling his arms away and bashed an officer in the face with a skateboard.

He was cited with felony assault of a public safety officer and disorderly conduct in the second degree, but was not booked into jail.”

Dear Colorado public: you asked for it, you voted for it, you got it, now ***** deal with it.

Mccoy was equally stunned that police walked away a second time.

“I was standing right there and I’m like, ‘What are you guys doing?’ and they said they were told to stand down and they left. Bottom line is they left us to deal with it by ourselves and that’s kind of crazy.”

Deputy Chief Parker said, “We’re trying to get the situation resolved with the least amount of escalation, the least amount of confrontation as we can.”

He said police presence on the scene seemed to agitate Thompson. Parker also explained his belief that had police taken more aggressive action and tried to take Thompson into custody, it could have led to the use of deadly force. He said escalation could have led to Thompson being hurt or killed and officers potentially being injured.
