They need an elite pass rusher to be truly dominant.

yup. but the time is over to invest in the Defense right now. Next offseason we need to use most of our cap improving our offense. Franchise #1 WR, Franchise LT. Franchise RT.

Maybe I'm full of it but the solution is pretty simple - throw screen passes.  Why we haven't is a mystery to me.

And it's also not a good idea with a young QB facing a lot of blitzing to constantly empty out the backfield.  Extra pass protection never hurt and when it all breaks down the RB drifts away and the QB dumps it to him.  See the Carolina Panthers & McCaffrey or NO Saints & Kamera.  The loss of Singleterry may be a much bigger issue then we thought.

I know I sound like a broken record here but did we counter the blitz with screen passes in those games?  I don't think we did.  And we kept running the spread which removes pass protection.

Sure Allen owns some of this by not getting the ball out fast to the hot receiver but when we don't call screen passes and we can't line-up with 2 TE's and pound the football on the ground the problem goes way beyond Allen.

The ones we have thrown the blockers have missed their blocks and receiver is taken down quickly in backfield

I have no idea what way to go.  Sometimes I think the Titans suck. Then, they end up being a decent team and I get confused.

This is is a coin flip game.  I will say the crowd with be half Buffalo fans so that should help big time.

One thing I noticed in their two wins is that their opponent's intensity was little-to-none. In week 1, the Browns looked completely surprised, like they thought they would win by just showing up after they got all of that offseason love from the media. This week the Falcons were completely flat.

The Colts and the Jaguars were able to handle the Titans and I think the Bills are better than both of those teams. Notably, the Titans were able to stay in the game vs the Colts because of stupid mistakes by the Brissett and the offense. That's the big storyline in Buffalo right now, too. Allen and the O need to limit stupid mistakes.

Maybe a call-up for everyone's favorite PS player................. Duke Williams?

They cut Veasey who they signed last week to add Easley. I’m eager to see Duke to the 53 as well.

He seemed to have established a little rapport with Barkley in the preseason, so I could see it. Unfortunately, that also might be a sign that Allen is gonna sit. Then again, it might be a sign that Zay has worn out his welcome, Foster is nicked up, and they want to get Duke in there anyway.

All of this sounds about right, but I wouldn't count Allen out till we actually hear it from the coach.

I don't have a good feeling about this game.

Barkley starting. Week before a bye. Titans haven't won a home game yet. Just has the recipe for a letdown spot for the Bills.

I hope I'm wrong. I also hope I'm wrong about Barkley starting at that Allen is OK.

My brain says take Titans -2.5 though

It’s just one game, but this is the kind of game that gives an indication of what kind of team we have. Do we bounce back? Can we beat a decent team on the road? Is there a hangover from the Pats game, or do we come out angry and dominate? I’m excited already, but part of that is I like Nashville so much. (It’s FAR more than country music!)

True on all points especially beating a decent team on the road; it’s where you get separation from the pack.

Yes we do and yes Beasley/Zay can put enough of a body on a defender.  Cole Beasley has run screens with us and caught one against NE for a gain of about 8-9.

John Brown isn't slow.
We attempted more than one screen.

You're talking as if Daboll doesn't have any clue about offense at all....yet Belicheck hired him once and wanted to hire him again.

This game was on Allen, plain and simple.  He was terrible for 90% of the day.

I'm not saying Dabold doesn't know what he's doing I'm saying we haven't run many traditional RB screen plays in spite of being blitzed a whole lot in the first 4 games.  As to the reason:

*  maybe our O-line can't get out there to block or it doesn't block well in space.

*  maybe our RB's aren't very good at disguising the play, making the catch or they don't have the elusiveness/acceleration to break a screen open.

*  And sorry the games outcome was way more complicated then "Allen sucked".  A punt blocked for a TD when you lose a game 16 - 10 might have something to do with it.  So might squandering TWO TO's early in the 2nd half on dumb challenges.  Or maybe missing a 49 yard FG and having a 22 yard punt contributed to the final score.  Or how about the decision with ELEVEN MINUTES left to play to go for it on 4th & goal from the 3 rather then kick the FB.  Or all the penalties at critical points of the game.

For sure Allen contributed to the loss but you're kidding yourself if you think he was the main reason we lost.  Sometimes winning games 16 - 6 or 12 - 10 is just as good as winning a game 42 - 28.  Just ask the Bears & Saints after the weekend.

Don't you worry. We can do both. We can upgrade the pass rush and fix the offense at the same time.

I love the idea of getting 2 good OT's and maybe move both Dawkins and Ford inside to flank Morse. However, everyone in the league is looking for OT's. Easier said than done. We might have to live with Dawkins at LT for a while longer. If we find a dominant LG, then Dawkins is probably ok at LT. I prefer Nsekhe, Feliciano, Long, Spain, Bates, Boettger, and Sean's favorite son as strictly backups.
