Who Will Be Better in 2019 - The Bills or The Jets

For some reason  I thought  Coughlin came in or was given a new roll mid season

The team sucked under Gus Bradley who was a bad Head Coach totally out of his depth. Coughlin was hired in January a week before Marrone was made permanent.

Marrone was 1-1 as the interim before they hired Coughlin. He was only made official as HC after Coughlin arrived. I prefer McDermott don't get me wrong but Marrone is a decent Head Coach he doesn't belong in the Jauron, Mularkey, Gailey list.

Marrone has a concept but he lacks imagination and flexibility.  Yeah, he'll impose structure and discipline but there is absolutely nothing exciting about his coaching style.  I don't want to run down the whole list but my gut tells me he's in the bottom half of NFL head coaches (meaning there are at least 16 who are better).

I think Gailey is a better HC than Saint Doug if he has the right DC.  He was saddled with mediocre talent and a bad DC (of his own choosing) in Buffalo, and he still managed to make things exciting for a while.

LOL  No the NYETS won't be 5-1

The Jets are more likely to go 1-5.

The Tight End is a good player. As is Robby Anderson. And Onunwa And Crowder. The Jets weapons are good. The question is their line.

Darnold being a turnover machine is also an issue.

Completely disagree on Gailey being better than him. No way. Not a chance. Where does Doug rank in the league? Yea bottom half, I agree with that. But Marrone has a place as an NFL Head Coach. Chan is a likeable guy but by the late 00s he had absolutely no place at all as a Head Coach in the NFL. None. Nada. Zilch.

If he continues to be one, yes, but very much like Allen his turnovers were down and his efficiency was up after his injury. I have no greater concern about Darnold turning it over than I do Allen turning it over.

I’m not sure about this Gunner.  Think about what Gailey did with Fitz (7th rounder journeyman), SJ (7th rounder), FJax, Nelson, Chandler, and Donald Jones.  Those were some very creative and fun offensive teams.  There was a ton more talent with Marrone in Buffalo and Jacksonville.  If Gailey has those teams and DCs, I think he is much more successful than Marrone IMO.

Chan is a nice guy. I actually like him. He knows how to run an offense. But he isn't a Head Coach. Being fun and being creative is not the criteria for being a good Head Coach. He had zero leadership qualities.

Either this year or next at the latest, the Bills and Jets will be battling it out for the division title.  Both teams have turned the corner, imo.

Who prevails depends largely on who you think will be the better QB.  I’m an Allen guy.

Ahh yes.   Watson went down after 3 or 4 weeks was it?  Don't remember Mariota.

I should have expounded further on that.

That Division was up for grabs because the 2 best QBs in that division were out for most of the season  (not counting MM)

Blake Bortles was the worst QB in that bunch.  (he also happened to be better than Tyrod Taylor)

A phrase used on both BB and TT.

99.999 % of us will say Buffalo is better.   Hence ...... silly / stupid question

I was looking for a place to put this ....  so why not here

https://www.buffalobills.com/news/camp-countdown-no-2-three-reasons-why-josh-allen-s-game-will-take-a-big-leap-for

1. Improved accuracy

One of the biggest knocks on Josh Allen’s game as a rookie was his passing accuracy. His completion percentage of just over 52 percent in 2018 didn’t do much to quiet the naysayers. However, during spring practices there was clear improvement in Josh Allen’s ball location.

“Ball placement is huge, especially in this league,” said Allen. “The type of concepts that we have, trying to get the ball to our playmakers where that can make some plays. That was a huge emphasis, we’re still working it. That is something that will never change, you always want to try to work on ball placement. Every day you come out, it’s kind of a new thing and sometimes the ball comes out of your hand a little bit differently. You have to make adjustments and understand what your body is trying to tell you and try to go with it.”

On the whole, Allen’s ball location was significantly better than where it was last season during OTAs and minicamp. He was not only hitting receiving targets in stride, so they could make plays after the catch, but he was also putting the ball on a receiver’s proper shoulder.

I wouldn't hold your breath about an improved completion percentage.    I think the guy has a lot to offer but he is probably about a 55% guy.  Guys who have been in this range over a number of years don't generally go up that much.

Yes, they have done some things right, but things that in the end won't matter all that much.

Passing on Mahomes, picking a 50% passer instead, thinking Peterman was a good idea.

We all know that QB is pretty much all that matters in this league and they have shown gross ineptitude concerning that position.

And I also only respond to comments I care about, sorry I don't care about the vast majority of your comments.

Do you actually type this stuff every time, or do you just copy and paste? Genuinely curious.

I agree with you on one.

Anderson better than Foster?  I dont know what youre basing this on.  I would trade McCoy and a 3rd for Bell in a heartbeat.  Would you trade our guy and a 3rd for any of the others?  I know I wouldnt.

Anderson is the best outside receiver in the AFCE. He has proven a lot more than Foster to this point. I think Foster has similar potential to Anderson and their rookie years are similar statistically but Foster is two years behind on the same road. I think, and even expect, Foster's career to follow a similar upward curve. But he still needs to go and prove it will. At this stage Anderson has done that.

Foster had excellent numbers the second half.  I like Anderson but his potential is not what Fosters is.

I think their potential is very similar actually. I think they can both be solid number 1s. Anderson is ahead of Foster at this point.

50, 752, 15.0,  6TDs. is a solid # 1?  If Zay puts up those #s in year three this board will be calling for his head.  I would be disappointed if Foster put up those numbers this season.  I also see one big difference, 15.0 as compared to 20.0.

I didn't say Anderson was a solid #1. He was pretty close in 2017, took a step back in 2018. I still think a solid #1 is his potential ceiling. I just don't see any reason to put Foster above him yet. He has to prove it on the field. And I like Robert Foster. I think he will lead the Bills in yards in 2019 but I am not going to evaluate him as though he already has. He has to do it.

That show Robby Anderson has, to this point done more in the NFL than Foster. That is to be expected, he is 3 years in. Their rookie stats - rookie season v rookie season - are remarkably similar. But there are no facts to this point that support Robert Foster being better than Robby Anderson. That is purely projection and optimism at this stage.

When you break those Rookie seasons down further it paints a different picture.  It shows Foster performed better.  If the second half of the season wasnt a fluke then Anderson couldnt hold Fosters jock.

You seem to forget that Foster was cut.  Sent to the practice squad and then brought back up.  He played in less games.  Started less games.  I expect Anderson to put up around 850 Yds this season.  I expect Foster to put up 1000+.

I could be wrong though and I think we have a QB that likes to sling it far so I guess that is an advantage #s wise.

So only if you are extrapolating and projecting. Got it. I like Foster. I think he is going to have a a good year. But we have to judge based on what he has actually done at this point. Not acting as though he did it over 16 games when he didn't.

And if the first day of TC is an indication of things to come (which it may or may not) Brown looks like he's going to be "the man" at the position Foster played last year.  Foster may find himself being the 4th WR in this offense.

I wouldn't read too much into that yet - the history of the McDermott camps is they use the first week to 10 days to roll through receivers and then they really start to settle down into a pattern of starters / backups etc.

The way they use their top 4 they have options. I expect Beasley to play the vast majority of snaps from the slot but beyond that you can go Foster at X and Brown at Z; or you can go Foster at X and Zay at Z; or Brown at X and Zay at Z. Or you have the option in certain packages to use Zay as the big slot, with Foster and Brown manning the outisde spots. Foster is a little vulnerable in that of he, Brown and Zay I think he is the least flexible.... he has to play as the X for me. That said, I also think he our most talented receiver and will start and play the majority of snaps at that spot. To me he is the only one of these who could be something special. Beasley and Brown are proven as average / low end #2 options and Zay is in that #3 type territory. If there is a #1 WR on this team it is Robert Foster.

This offense has the makings of a "WR by committee" approach...which is fine with me if all four guys are productive.  Something tells me Zay is going to surprise people this year and by mid-season nobody will be making jokes about Buffalo's passing attack.
