The Senator
My first PC... JK - ENIAC predates me by a few years. I think the first real computer I used (other than an Atari Pong game) was a DEC PDP-8 or PDP-11. Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) was a fairly big player in both the business and scientific worlds - I’m surprised they got no mention in that article. The first actual PC I used was the IBM 5120. . Edited June 18, 2019 by The Senator

Steve O
People actually buy those new fangled gizmos? What a waste of money. Trust me, they'll never catch on. Whoever owns one probably owns an 8-track as well.
Just Jack
In school would have been an Apple II about 1981. Home was a Commodore 64, I believe 1983.

apuszczalowski
I believe my parents bought us a Tandy RLX 1000 from Radio Shack as our first computer. We played games having to constantly switch disks to keep going since my dad refused to let us load them onto the hardrive and waste space. Marv's Neighbor
Started with United Airlines in 1968, and they were using Univac then. Modification and expansion caused that to still be used for some things, when I retired in 2003. The FAA uses even older crap.

WhoTom
The first computer I used was a DEC PDP-11 mainframe for a programming class in my freshman year of college. One central computer with 96 "dumb" terminals for users. We also had access to a computer room with a couple of Trash-80 Color Computers; my friend had a Space Invaders game on cassette. The first PC I bought was a 16 MHz 286 (don't remember the brand) with a whopping 1 MB of RAM, a 40 MB hard drive, and a 3.5" floppy drive. It ran DOS 3.3. Gray Beard
In college the mainframe was a CDC Cyber 70. When I started working, I used a Honeywell 6000. A few years later we started using VAX computers. Then we started using workstations instead of mainframes.

Ridgewaycynic2013
Somewhere in the attic are old ‘recorded from air’ television shows from the late 90s, complete with commercials. Noted there from $2000 to $2400, the Future Shop chain was selling desktop computers with the same memory capacity as 2019’s musical greeting cards are equipped with. In the four years between buying our first pc to our second pc (1997 - 2001) from a computer specialist store, the price of a CD burner there dropped from $10000 to about $150. Yes, ten thousand.
