Joe Marino (paraphrasing): "Bills will add an edge rusher in free agency in a 'creative' way"

I'm listening now, he starts off by saying he talked to people over the weekend and learned a lot, wants to let us know what he's learned. He later says we should "brace (ourselves) for a Defensive Tackle at 9" and talks about Oliver and Wilkins, at the end of that part says "based on what I could gather, that's one of my takeaways."

It's officially panic time for the Offense-Only Chicken Little Brigade B-)

Although I fully understand and endorse the DT possibility, an evil part of me wants it to happen solely for the purpose of ruining posters lives lol

I know he said free agency, but two under the radar guys who  could come available and would be great fits imo, Solomon Thomas of the 49ers and Trey Hendrickson of the Saints. Thomas is a bigger end that fits the McDermott mold. If the 49ers draft Joey Bosa, I think they move Thomas. The other guy Hendrickson is another bigger end who has been a part time player and will be losing more playing time to Marcus Davenport. Perhaps a reclamation project like Noah Spence.

Good thoughts - what do you think Thomas would cost?  Former top five pick, no?  And still young and on his rookie deal.

I immediately thought of Anthony Barr. Glad some of you guys did too. He was wasted as a 4-3 LB. You check his tape from UCLA and I was in love. I'd love to see him as a 4-3 DE.

I have a hard time believing that someone like Zimmer would waste someone on his defense.

The OP references Kony Ealy as a possibility but I doubt that because the Bills had a chance to claim him off waivers in 2017 (I think) and they passed.

I dunno how "creative' they plan on getting but I wouldn't be surprised to see some kind of trade go down given Beane's willingness to wheel and deal.

I'm guessing by creative he means a guy who can play multiple positions in a defense. Can stand up, can put his hand in the dirt, has experience getting after the QB at multiple positions. I would  think that would mean a guy who can play DE/DT or a guy who can play LB/DE. That makes me think he is talking about Anthony Barr or Za'Darius Smith from the Ravens.

Pretty sure we put in a claim but the Jets snagged him.

Carolina had him in for a pre-draft visit that year as well. I'm not sure what he would cost though. I feel like the Niners will take what they can get, as he has been a bust for them. The last time a trade like this went down, the Browns traded the #6 overall pick Barkevious Mingo, to the Patriots for a fifth round pick. The biggest difference there is that Mingo was traded after his third year. Another top ten bust, Derrick Harvey was held on to for too long and he wound up getting waived for nothing. Thomas has been that level of bust for the 49ers in his first two years and I think he'd be a better fit for our scheme. I'd throw them a 5th for sure. He's only 23 years old, going to be 24.

He certainly knows Phillips - wonder if he helped recruit Phillips.

I thought Barr would make alot of sense.  Versatile, athletic, still hasnt lived up to all his potential.  Barr could be Alexander 2.0.  Strong side LB in base defense edge defender in Nickle.  Heck him and Edmunds in the middle of the feild on a passing down closes passing lanes too.

So....Solomon Thomas was reportedly #1 on the Bills board in 2017 per Leroi. Anyone else remember this?
