Because if you think Croom is gonna be on the squad in 2019, we're gonna need a TE that can block. My assumption is that we'll invest a day one or two pick and his primary duty will be as a receiver. He might give the Bills more production than Thomas. He's a big boy, but not especially athletic. He might be a better blocker than Thomas. I don't think the Bills would expect him to be a starter, but he'll give them something as a depth player. I think Croom would start ahead of him. That has him making less then a 2nd round rookie was making last year. I'd be happy if we get him for <6M. Logic Posted February 21, 2019 Share Posted February 21, 2019 Would love to see them sign James AND draft a young TE. James/Draftee/Croom is a nice lineup at that position. James is the dependable all-around guy, Croom is the flex receiving option, and draftee is the future at the position. I'd be fine with the Bills drafting two tight ends, but with as many needs as they have, I'm not sure it's reasonable. Furthermore, I get the sense they want a dependable veteran at the position, particularly since TEs historically take a few years to really start producing at a high level in the NFL. James fits the profile of who the Bills should be looking at in free agency: Young players signing their second contracts in the NFL.
