While that's great, how the hell have the Pegulas (who also own the Sabres (of the NHL)), pulled a fast one on Greedy Roger and friends? Logic Posted December 18, 2018 Share Posted December 18, 2018 I was under the impression that you couldn't own other sports teams IN OTHER MARKETS, but that it was permissable to own multiple teams in the same city/market. I feel like there is a short list of things 1.4 billlion doesn’t buy.... and it’s on the order of large multinational corporations and larger countries. Owner of the Rams was in that situation since he owned the Rams in St. Louis/LA but also owned a hockey team or something in Denver (which has the Broncos.) Same city was always okay, however. EDIT: From the NYT: "the owners extended by one year the deadline for Stan Kroenke, owner of the St. Louis Rams, to sell his stakes in the Denver Avalanche and the Denver Nuggets. The NFL allowed dual ownership as long as they were in the same market or another market without an NFL team. The Pegulas were fine and never an issue. It would have been an issue if the owners of Delaware North would have tried to buy the Bills because he is a part owner of the Boston Bruins. The change is to allow guys in specific situations to dual own even if the market is shared with an NFL team. The Rams owner is also a partial owner of the Colorado avalanche. My understanding that an owner could own franchises in two different sports if it was in the same city. That has been permissible for a while.
