This doesn't seem to be the year, the team, or the player to measure statistics.  I'd like to see signs that he can do what successful quarterbacks do: dictate to the defense instead of simply taking what they give him, work through his reads and find the right targets for his throws, make those throws from time to time, and finally, show that the offense can count on him to provide a spark, make a play, or lead the offense down the field in adverse circumstances.

He doesn't have to consistently do ANY of these things, let alone all of them.  I understand that he's developing.  I just need to see signs that he has these qualities in him-- so stated another way, I need to see him do these things SOMETIMES, and I need to see him doing more of these things by the end of the season than he was at the beginning of it (an admittedly high bar given his performance against the Vikings).

He can turn the ball over, make bad decisions, bad reads, bad throws; I just need to see that he can make good ones, as well, and that he's getting incrementally closer to where we need him to be to lead this offense, and this team, at some point in the not-too-distant future.

I'm sure it's been said but:

Pass for more than 85 yards a game is the biggest thing.

Don't tuck the ball and run at the slightest hint of pressure

Go through progressions and deliver on schedule

His WR group still isn't great BUT I think it's improved since he last played, especially with the addition of Thompson as a field stretcher, and it did look like Foster's PS stint made him hungry. There needs to be some semblance of progress in these 6 games.

Show signs of competence because if it's me running the team I'm looking at all options at QB next year and his garbage play thus far is not working in his favor.

Is that the standard? How about some progress or signs he can actually move a team down the field?

they aren't mutually exclusive

hopefully he has that tough SOB inner core that Jim Kelly had to take the weekly brutal beating of not having much protection out there

Um...Mahomes personally turned the ball over 5 times.  So for as much as the Chiefs were in the game because of Mahomes, they also lost because of him including letting the defense score.  I mean they lost by 3, of course those turnovers mattered a ton including throwing a pick with a chance to still tie the game.

So he certainly was a heavy contributor to that loss, and one could argue the main reason they lost.  I mean he gave the Rams personally 14 points and the ball 3 more times on top of that in a game they lost by 3.

Gaudy stats doesn't mean the turnovers get ignored when they directly lead to the loss.  Kudos to the kid, he fought his tail off, but the turnovers cost the Chiefs the game.  Kid will be alright, he has a short memory and is a fiery competitor...but he still gets to own his turnovers that were the difference in the game.

If Josh Allen could ever have that same exact game, you would never post this.  Never.

Well that’s a lie.  When Fitz took over and threw all those TDs on the vaulted Ravens D and we still loss cuz of his turnovers I was all over him for that while people here were crowning him the next Favre.

Ive posted here long enough for you to know I don’t post with bias.  If Allen had a 6TD game but had 5 turnovers and we lost....I’d be excited for the kid, but also clearly understand the turnovers lost us the game.

If Allen had the same game, all you would do is focus on turnovers to sell your narrative he isn’t good enough.  You’d be saying. How bad the Rams D is and that’s why he had 6TDs then say he sucks cuz he turned the ball over 5 times to a bad defense.

If you cant acknowledge that 5 turnovers, including 2 that gave up defensive TDs, didn’t direclty contribute to the loss for KC then I don’t know what to tell you.  I mean with a chance to tie the game he threw another pcim to seal the loss.

Kid had a helluva game, but the only stat that matters is the win/loss column...his mistakes cost them the W as much as heroics kept them in the game.  But he lost and gets to own that and move on.  Doesn’t diminish his season, but fanboys can never accept accountability, you guys act like it means he sucks or something.  Best QBs in history all had games they lost for their teams.  He lost this game, period.  He also fought back and almost stole it, but in the end, he couldn’t over come his 5 turnovers and Chiefs lost.
