I think its funny when US or Canadians comment on countries and their govs and social systems that they know absolutely nothing about.

Brazil is not what people think, nor is any other country.

Corruption exists from the top levels of government to the school crossing guard, (which they don't have as I have been run over in Sao Paulo and can verify).

Changing people at the top won't change that. It is systemic.

Regional differences exist as well.

Rio is completely different than Sao Paulo or Recife, and we won't even consider the Amazon area.

What this is, in my humble view, is the final nail in the now continental repudiation of the Chavez Bolivarian Revolution coffin.

Way too much ground to travel though, as Argentina has demonstrated.

I have a nephew that is a anti-US nutty butty that has lived in Brazil but got hoofed out because he didn't follow proper immigration protocol. In other words, he didn't apply at all and just lived there for 3 or 4 years. He is preparing to go back. I wonder if he still wants to? Maybe Venezuela or Cuba might be a better option.

If he's sane, he will avoid Venezuela, or prepare to give up his life.

Brazil is the much better option, but if he doesn't care about immigration protocol, there may be no no place for him.

Pretty sure they are advocating for him right here in this thread.

Guess we need to use our intelligence agencies to launch a coup inside Brazil for voting differently than we want. Let's tick off another regime change war, how dare the people of Brazil elect someone of their own choosing.

"Conservative" Americans backing a guy who said:

"Let’s go straight to the dictatorship.”

And they think they are the smart ones.

I must have missed all your critiques here of the "Progressive" Americans who gleefully cheered on Chavez actually going straight to dictatorship.   <_<

Over 14 years of Big TIME Corruption where the ex-president is currently in Jail and half the government were involved and/or are have been charged or are still under investigation.

If you have time, Go watch the Netflix special " The Mechanism ".  Based on the Car Wash investigation that opened a door of big time corruption from the workers party.

At this moment Bolsonaro was the only option as he is one of the few that wasn't involved in the corruption.  The lesser of two evils at the moment, but trust me, the people are keeping an eye on his every move.

So...

American liberals participating in this thread are angry because Brazilians exercising their democratic prerogative elected an anti-socialist in order to ferret out corruption which is literally the only way of life in the government sector; and are stoking fears of a new Pinochet?

Do I have this right?

These people are ***** stupid.

Given the propensity for the CIA to overthrow democratically-elected South- and Central-American governments and install dictators, I'd say their fears are well-grounded.

I don't think that's really applicable here.  This is a democratically elected anti-socialist who was not installed by the CIA.

Any concerns along those lines would necessarily include that the CIA would overthrow the guy they're afraid of, and install some other guy.

Or am I misunderstanding you?

Pretty much in regards to Right wing and left wing!

I think any side can be in power and have good policies and try to do the best for the people.

Trump on the other hand is a big douchebag!

Enjoyed it, but don't envy you a bit.

You do realize that you aren't "getting anyone going",  but rather are convincing other people that you're stupid.

I'm not really sure how you consider that to be some sort of personal victory, but you do you.

Fascism is when, for democracy to win, you must ban the fascist’s campaign, corruptly bury the democrat’s bribery convictions, invent scandals near daily to kill the fascist’s credibility, threaten journalists covering the fascist’s POV, use vote buying schemes to bribe people to vote for the democrat, and prevent cabs and billboards from displaying the fascist’s face.

Or just pretend all that is actually happening

I will start listening to l*ftoids about the “danger” of fascism when I can find one who can accurately describe the conditions that have led to fascist takeovers in first world nations.
