Why Nick Foles will most likely be traded before March 16?

If they don’t trade Foles, they’re idiots imo.  Grab your 2nd rd pick and get yourself some cap relief.  Thanks for being a great backup and winning a SB.....time to move on

Much depends on the prognosis for Wentz, tbh. I think I've seen something, somewhere, that says his injury wasn't as simple as being made out, in that something else got injured alongside his acl. I have no idea what that might be, but while the return from the injury (s) was still confidently predicted, the timeline wasn't.

The Eagles signed Foles to his deal in the first instance, they must already have some sort of plan in place, for dealing with their cap issues. It makes no sense for them, at all, to trade Foles, without an adequate backup in place, in case Wentz cannot start the season. Where are you going to find another backup who has proven they can win a SB for you?

Doesn't really matter what 'value' anyone else might think Foles has, what matters is the value he has to the Eagles, and currently, that's probably higher than anyone else has it.

As someone else has also pointed out, assuming they can do it within the CBA, cutting Peters can easily sort out their cap 'issues' for the moment, and at 36 yrs old, I suspect his days are numbered in the NFL anyway.

Trading Foles before the Eagles are 100% certain that Wentz will be ready to start the season makes no sense at all.  No different from the other two threads on Foles.

Also they kept Bradford and waited until Bridgewater went down with the knee injury to fleece them for a 1st round pick.

I think philli is def gonna pawn Foles for a 1st round pick.  Not sure when, i just hope its not us.

Lets trade up and draft one of the top 3.

Edit: im sure the Eagles and Rams do not regret going full Ditka now.

agreed. i think it would make more sense for them to move him predraft. i would gladly give no.22 for him. we can still take a dt and then move back up for rudolph or vise versa, or maybe they're thinking mike white or someone later.

i would think they'd want to have their cap and draft capitol under control before then.

Agreed.

The only way Foles gets traded is if he asks to go somewhere he can start.  Even then I don't see the Eagles trading Foles to Cleveland or Arizona for some random picks.  They'll work with Foles to get him somewhere he wants to go.

That would be the right thing to do.

And you think that the Super Bowl MVP doesn’t want to start? There’s zero chance he’s going to be happy playing for four weeks just to give the ball back to Wentz. And, if he’s 4-0 at that point the Eagles are going to have a mess in their hands. Foles will be traded.

From reading this I gather that we Bills fans have been so warped by our collective experience with our abysmal team that we all agree that winning a Superbowl and having two good starting quarterbacks is a terrible situation to be in. How will the Eagles staff ever cope? There doesn't seem to be any way out?!?! God help them.

I also think that Foles actually has more trade value in the preseason/mid-season due to injury. This is a pretty thick QB market (comparatively speaking) and teams might be hesitant to give up more than a 2nd for him. Come August-October and a starting QB on a team with playoff aspirations, or with a coach on the hot seat, and 1st round probably is much more realistic.

Excellent points

He's under contract.

Happy or not, Foles, put on your Big Boy panties, say your prayers to Lord Jesus for arranging all things according to His Plan for Your life, and Get 'r Done.

The only way it makes sense to trade Foles is if they 1) get an offer they absolutely can't refuse prior to his roster bonus coming due (likely) and 2) can more cheaply sign a guy they are confident can take them to 2-2 or 3-3 in case Wentz isn't ready (iffy)

I say "iffy": they save $5.4M by trading Foles. Josh McCown signed for 1 yr $6M, Case Keenum for $2M, Ryan Fitzpatrick for $3M, Chad Henne $3.5M, Jay Cutler $10M.  You're asking if Foles is worth more to the team than the $2M-$3M they save after they trade him and sign a different backup - dubious

I'd easily give up the 22nd pick pick for Foles, especially if the alternative is taking a wholly unproven, lower-rated rookie.  The guy averaged almost 40 PPG (after going to the RPO) against the #1 and #4 scoring defenses in the NFL and did that on the road and in the biggest games of his/anyone's career.  And he just turned 29 and hasn't played a lot/taken a lot of hits so he could be in the league another 10 years.

Now Ideally trading down to the end of the 1st and using that would be ideal, but I doubt any team will do a deal before the pick comes up and I feel that a deal would need to be done before the draft.  That is, if Philly decides to trade him at all.  But they have cap issues and paying Foles $3M in a roster bonus on 3/18 doesn't help them.

First, I’d love for the Bills to get Foles, I don’t believe his postseason play is a fluke.

The Eagles do not have significant cap issues that would force them to make this move, Jason Peters will be gone if he doesn’t restructure to give cap relief. They have less free agents than most teams and I believe know what they want or can do with them. Combined, there top two qbs are making less than many teams are paying one. They will get get a quality backup cheaper than Foles. Wentz had an acl and lcl tear. Those are the reasons the Eagles should keep him.

On the other hand, Wentz still is confident he’ll be ready and will start the season opener. It seems unlikely the Eagles will be able to keep Foles for more than this season as he will sign a big contract elsewhere. They can likely get a first for him now or get nothing next year (unless they plan to tag and trade which could be possible).

Ultimately, I think it depends on:

- when do they believe Wentz will be ready

- what are they offered

- what is their backup backup ab plan

As I started with, I would be thrilled for the Bills to make a run for him.
