If it works out that's great...if it doesn't we look back at the worst contract handed out in the history of sports. 7 games.

it's only a 5 year deal.....Albert Pujos, A-Rod, A. Haynesworth.....many contracts much worse

Did I not say he looked good in his starts? I think I did.

Doesn't change the fact that he has only started a few games. RGIII looked amazing for an entire season. There is always a chance he doesn't turn out as good as they thought.

RG3 couldn't read a defense to save his life.  Apples and oranges comparison.

Qb is the hardest position to play. He had 7 games. 7.

He stepped right in and executed Shanahan's complex offense to play at a high level.  I don't care how many games it was, the film didn't lie.  He played his ass off with great timing, touch, accuracy, and decision making.  That 2017 49ers team was a joke before he took the helm.  7 games or not he can play and he's exactly why Belichick is so salty these days after being forced to deal him.

By the numbers, Jimmy Garoppolo made 49ers better at everything

Not sure how you can give an unproven player that much cash...

NFL teams are stupid.

If you want to win, you have to TRY SOMETHING.

Unless you have a terrible season and finish with a Top 1-2 pick, then landing a top QB prospect is going to require massive resources to move up.

If you are going for someone with experience, it's going to take tons of cash (and picks if a trade is involved).

I applaud the 49ers for having the guts to go all-out on a player they believe in.  If they are right, this move puts them in great position for the next decade.  If they are wrong, they are no worse off than before they had Jimmy G on the roster.

Still no justification for the richest deal ever. Bridge deal yes. Record deal no

It won't be a record deal for long and forget a bridge deal when you know you have your guy.

I gave some to Lynch and Shanahan. They ate it up.  Now open your eyes.

We'll see. I have nothing against Garoppolo. He didn't play enough in NE for me to hate him. And I didn't see all of the SF games so maybe I would have been more impressed.

I think when he starts getting some pressure of the franchise guy with that big contract and DL hunting for him and some film on him he's going to be called the Garoppolo Turtle.

Therin lies the problem.  He's plenty athletic to escape pressure, keep his cool, and throw accurately outside the pocket while on the move.  A nice big fat crow sandwich has your name all over it.  Woof!

You keep on brnging up Cousins when the situations are different with no acrimony between the 49ers and Garoppolo.  Based on what I have seen from Jimmy G, I'll trust the collective judgment of Lynch and Shanahan over yours.

Because anyone with an ounce of business sense would want to see him do it for more than 5 games before backing up the truck.  You can still think he's a franchise QB without making him the highest paid player after 5 good games.  Agents will absolutely copy Cousins' stance whether there is acrimony or not.  Clearly worked for Garoppolo.

Did you see him play any games?  It wasn't Cousins stance, it was Washington who tagged him because they didn't believe in him. You have it backwards.

...WHOA!...let's be realistic here....if McBeane had signed Jimmy G to the same deal for Bflo, I am CERTAIN his reaction would be identical, RIGHT?.......

But this isn’t a tag.

Its an offer, no?   Can they sign contracts before the season starts?

I cant keep up.

I think they can as long as they are already under contract with that team, but in all likelihood it wouldn't go through until the new league year because most teams have rolled their remaining cap over and don't have room to accommodate the signing bonus.

You really think Jimmy G is that much better than Kissing C? No one has even ever seen them in the same room at the same time.

26 thinks Jimmy is the next Tom Brady and no one will convince him otherwise.

That’s what I thought

Can't speak for him, but I would be estatic to have him as the Bills' QB.

...LOL...was just trying to get the bi-polars here to step up and say lousy deal for SF for a greenhorn while "wish it happened to Bflo"....you know THAT drill....

Well then they need to bring that up in the CBA. He's gotta realize he's played seven games.

Bring what up?

Anyway, if he's the guy they clearly think he is, this is the cheapest price they will ever get him at.  If he's lights out under the franchise and the mediocrity that is Cousins cashes in now as a FA and sets the market,  JG's price will be way more next year.

This isn't hard to figure out.

Silver should call me before he goes on the air....lol

And I have to say, the John Lynch pick as GM was ROUNDLY dragged.  But I think he may turn out OK.

Contrast him to the other former Bronco-now team runner..........

He produced at that level with mediocre talent surrounding him on offense. Just think what he could do with more time in Shanahan's system and better talent supporting him.

Exactly...I honestly believe Jimmy G has a chance to be the next great QB in this league.  I would think they will pursue Sammy, and if they get him I think Sammy will be a 1400+ yard and 10+ TD guy next year.

The Niners got some nice young pieces on the D, a good FA and Draft and they might a Rams like rise next year and certainly be a serious threat to win that division.
