Biggest Hole on Depth Chart?

As we prepare to head to camp, I've noticed a couple of positions that look pretty thin. I was hoping some of these positions would be filled with free agency but the signings this offseason have been pretty underwhelming. We would like to think we will be able to get everyone to the season healthy but you know how things go.

 

Going into 2017, what position group do you see as the biggest hole on our roster?

I voted CB.

 

Losing Gillissllleee hurt, but if the O-line does its job, we should be okay.

I got CB. Which Darby will we get? White is a rookie. The rest seems to just be all #3 and #4 type castoffs from other teams.

I think RB & TE are equally concerning, but could only choose the one.

The team is full of holes, IMO... TC should be interesting at least.

I went with Safety. TE is also a bit of a concern in an offense that likes to run the ball, but i think we'll see Dimarco a fair amount motioning out as a 2nd TE.

Safety was my vote, Hyde is the only one I'm comfortable with.

Tyrod may have shortcomings as a passer but we're screwed if he goes down.

 

Likewise, I don't think we can afford an injury to Shady.

 

But in other areas, I don't just worry about depth, I worry about the quality of the starters: Safety, CB, WR...

 

It was a tough call, but forced to pick one I picked Safety.

i'll say this...i like the first name on the depth charts and sometimes the second in some of the deeper position groups, but after that there is a HUGE dropoff. if our top player at any of the positions goes down we are in big trouble. what you would want to see as a backup would be someone who is worthy of possibly being a starter but was beat out by the starter. i don't see that at any position besides DT and C unfortunately. they better keep these guys healthy

No idea what we will get from Lawson, there is 1 legitimate starter there. If Hughes gets injured, look out.

Safety. We only have one starting quality safety on the roster. A team needs at least two. Tight end is shallow, but we only need to line up one starter. A franchise QB is obviously the most difficult to find and the most important, but we don't have a huge hole there with Taylor. He's not a FQB, but he's at least capable of being a starter in this league.

Im gonna have to agree with that completely. Especially at DE and S yikes!!!

Agreed.

 

That being said, I don't know if other teams have starting quality backups or not, it just feels like we have a serious lack of talent, should injury strike.

I think its pretty clear that its CB until proven otherwise. We have a 3rd year DB in Darby who showed promise one year, and struggled in his second paired with a promising, yet unproven rookie (who has looked really good so far, but none of the matters until camp) as our top 2 DB's.

 

If Darby bounces back in a better system (quite possible, and I think he will) and White proves to be as good as he has looked so far, then this really wont be our weakest position. But thats two big unknowns right now, so this is the least proven group on the field and its not really close.

 

Runner up: Safety. Only reason I listed CB over Safety, is there is more unknown at CB (who is the real Darby, what will White do)

Safety #1. Behind Hyde we get Poyer, Anderson, etc. None do a thing for me.

TE#2. Clay goes down, we got O'leary. Im a minority here to believe O'Leary can be a decent 2, but not 1.

Lb#3. Brown is only servicable and can be masked with adequate help. But then we got Rags, who aint played a down, and by default wins a starting spot according to whatever position he wins/loses to Brown, and then Zo and a bunch of rookies and cast offs. Gerald Hodges, btw, helped our team alot. 3 spots between the 4.anyway,none may be best suited for the spot they win. Troubling to say the least. Cunningham was there for the taking and we passed...bummer

I wouldn't exactly agree that our team is full of "holes," but it certainly is filled with question marks. And, I think that training camp is going to answer most of those, and by the time the season hits, I think we are going to be pretty solid.

 

Defensively, I don't think anyone needs to worry about the front seven at all. A lot of hay has been made regarding our LBs, but I think they're going to come out of TC as a solid unit. I also think our CBs have a lot of potential, and I'm not worried about Darby one bit. But, after Hyde, I we are awfully shallow at safety.

 

Offensively, I don't have any issues with our RB corp, considering the depth we have at FB, and the way they will likely be used. TE is the obvious choice. But, I don't feel particularly comfortable with our WRs, either. After Sammy, I don't know that we have any big play makers.

 

With only one vote, I'll go TE.
