26CornerBlitz
@SWhyno #Preds assistant Phil Housley, #Pens assistant Rick Tocchet and #Caps associate coach Todd Reirden seem to be top candidates for #Sabres.
thebandit27
@SWhyno #Preds assistant Phil Housley, #Pens assistant Rick Tocchet and #Caps associate coach Todd Reirden seem to be top candidates for #Sabres. There are compelling reasons to think each one could have the inside track: Housley has the Buffalo history, Tocchet has the familiarity with Botteril, and Reirden has the very similar career arc to Botteril. JohnC
I like Leeeen-us. Glad to see he's staying in the organ-eye-zation. The interesting issue regarding the goalie position is the value the GM places on Lehner. If he decides that he is not worth an upscale contract then that can trigger additional transactions. Overall, Lehner had a good year. However, as with the Bills whenever there is a change of regime the newly installed regime has less attachment to the players acquired by the previous regime. It will be interesting to observe if the GM wants to invest in the big goalie with the big temper?

JohnC
and who he exposes With the expansion draft there are going to be a lot of side deals. Many of these preconceived deals will be for exposed players who will by agreement not be taken. The Sabres should be able to come up with a defenseman or two from deals associated with the expansion. Supposedly, Murray had a deal arranged with Vegas. It will be interesting to see what it is and if it is still in play.
plenzmd1
read something today that the league does not want the trades/deals with Vegas announced until the night of the 21st...that sucks... Pete
What is going on with trades? Everything I read over the weekend said that Monday and Tuesday would be crazy trade days. If we could get a young stud defensemen for Kane, I would make that trade. The draft is coming up. As is the expansion draft. Where are the trades? I like them both but have a fond place in my heart for Housley from watching him in my youth. One of my favorite memories is of him and Foligino in OT scoring a goal against the Flyers when OT was just back in the league. I also remember him scoring a goal when we were two men short against Quebec

C.Biscuit97
I was really young for him but doesn't he have a rep for being one of the softest players ever? Obviously, he can be different as a coach and the game isn't as tough anymore. But I can't stand soft teams. The second the Sabres let Miller get run over and did nothing, I knew bad times were ahead.
bilzfancy
He's had success as a player, a HS coach, coach of Team USA, and assistant coach at Nashville, hopefully Pegs hit a home run with all 4 of his recent hires

Obviously, he can be different as a coach and the game isn't as tough anymore. But I can't stand soft teams. The second the Sabres let Miller get run over and did nothing, I knew bad times were ahead. He had the rep because he was a smallish, offensive minded defenseman in a league that still valued hulking guys who couldn't move. Erik Carlsson would also be considered soft by 1980's standards.
