BobChalmers Posted April 30, 2016 Share Posted April 30, 2016 Right now Corbin Bryant is a starter in their new conventional 3-4 along with Dareus and Kyle Williams. Hughes and Shaq Lawson are OLB. They needed quality depth at least, and desperately so. I'm sure Jarran Reed was an option for them over Ragland - hopefully Ragland's coverage issues aren't as bad as advertised. They immediately acquired two quarterbacks, traded a popular LB for a RB, signed a WR in Percy Harvin for $6m, outbid the Fins for a play making TE, signed one of the top FB, signed or drafted two starting OG, and drafted another RB. Oh, and drafted a CB in the second round. Rex was definitely calling all the shots because he wants his guys on defense. But that was last year. Now it's this year. Washington gets a sack, a couple really impressive TFLs, and some additional QB hits and hurries. However, more impressive than that is the fact that he lined up next to Bosa and Michigan consistently double teams Washington while leaving only the OT to deal with Bosa. I was expecting offense with our third round pick like most ppl here, but the more I think about and research this guy, I don't mind it...he's super quick and has a rare skillset in terms of interior pass rush ability. Kyle's not getting any younger and we were seriously thin on the D-line before adding Washington...the other added bonus might be that this pick will help Lawson and Ragland perform even better. Whether Ohio State’s Adolphus Washington was the wise choice there is debatable. Most scouting assessments I’ve heard termed him as “just a guy” and that the Bills might have reached a bit for a player who would have been available in the fourth round and perhaps even lower. Never mind the character concerns created by his arrest for soliciting an undercover officer posing as a prostitute and subsequent suspension from the Fiesta Bowl. The guy hasn’t shown a whole lot as a player to convince multiple talent-evaluators that he has what it takes to make an impact in the NFL. Two of the biggest knocks against him are poor instincts, especially when it comes to reacting to misdirection plays, and inconsistent effort. He’s plenty big (6-3 and 301 pounds) and strong, but doesn’t always show the necessary awareness of what’s happening around him. As a result, he can be taken out of plays, which would figure to happen more often in the NFL. But new Bills defensive line coach John Blake loves Washington and, by most accounts, managed to sell the decision-makers on him. Should they have been as eager as they apparently were to give in? A third-round choice is not a throwaway. The Bills needed some good defensive line depth, but whether Washington can provide it as a big question mark. In years past, they have drafted "against the tide" and taken positional needs in draft classes that were very weak at those positions. It was because he was armed. The gun was registered to him. But that was why. He doesn't allow the players to carry guns per team policy. I know nothing good or bad about this guy, but just based on measurables I don't get it. For DL he's short and small, where does he fit? i would guess 3 technique in passing situations as a rookie, develop into a 3-4DE with good coaching.
