Stefen Wisniewski - C

Recommended Posts

I believe he is still unsigned. Anyone up for using the last bit of cap space on him? At a minimum he would be the best back-up center option on the team.

He will get starter money and can play guard. I would very much like to get him but not sure he or the Bills are interested. It depends on whether he wants to play C or he doesn't care what he plays. I still would like Blalock.

I would prefer Blalock as well.

I think the team feels like they can grab a guard in the draft. I am not a cap expert but with Clay and Harvin signed I think they can't really afford anything more than modest offers. I would rather they bring back Spikes and bring in Dwan Landry. The defense is good but it needs some depth. They can draft a guard in round 2 and either another O-line or depth at TE or another position in round 3.

Wisniewski is probably the best target left.. better than any of the guards out there. We could probably move either he or Wood to guard if we signed him. However, after signing Clay and Harvin I'm not sure if we have the cap space to do it...I'm assuming we want to keep some cap space in reserve for June 1 cut opportunities etc..

Looking at Sportrac and Center salaries I'd guess we'd end up having to pay him between $3-4 mil per year.

According to Pro Football Focus there are a couple of other lesser known FA Centers available that have graded out well ( Brian De La Puente and Will Montgomery) and would probably be much more cap friendly signings.

Wisniewski is probably going to get a deal in excess of $6M/year, and I don't think the Bills are spending that type of money at this point in FA. They have to keep an eye on next year w/ the likes of Dareus, Gilmore, Glenn and Bradham on expiring contracts. I think their big spending in FA has probably concluded.

You may be right, but the BILLS were a projected $60 million under the Cap before FA, and were still $16 million under the Cap before Clay, so as for next year, I don't that's really an issue. Now, how Clay's numbers impact current FA, that's a different story. However, OL was THE biggest issue identified by anyone with a set of eyes, and certainly identified by DW and Rex, that leads me to believe, they're not done...how they do that, may be the key, but I don't think it's Draft, they did that last year with three very promising Rookies. IMHO

I'd rather get an older vet on a decent deal. We have three young guys who all could be potential starters but we need time to figure out which ones will be good.

I'm hoping they can trade for Evans (then re-do his contract to minimize the 2015 cap hit)...

De La Puente has connections to our current OL coach having worked together in both Chicago and New Orleans. I'd love to bring him in for depth and/or compete with Wood or maybe move Wood back to RG where he started for his first two seasons year.
