The thing is, even if you have major cap problems, the guy who puts butts in the seats on Sunday is still your aging QB. That's what makes him worth the money, and that's why Brees, and Eli and Brady and Big Ben and anyone else who's good is going to stay put for the rest of their careers come hell or high cap hit.

The Saints are in cap hell since they are $20M+ over the cap. They will have to release a number of veteran players to just get under the cap and sign their 2015 draft picks. With that in mind, they could be looking to dump their 35 yr old starting QB and start anew.

This is where the Bills' QB search should start and hopefully end. With Brees running the show in Buffalo the Bills will make the playoffs and even have a better than average shot at the SB.

IMHO, Brees even offers better value at this point in his career than P. Manning, who appears to be fragile and on his last legs, but certainly still very talented.

Brees probably still has a good three years in him. Sign or trade for him and develop Manuel in the meantime.

Your thoughts??

Ignoring the obvious lunacy from a competitive standpoint, dropping Brees would also be one of the worst business decisions the Saints could possibly make. It would be like when David Lee Roth left Van Halen, and was replaced by Sammy Hagar. The Saint's fans might burn the Super Dome to the ground.

Brees has done a lot with very minimal talent at WR and RB in New Orleans. If he becomes available why wouldn't anyone take him?

Why would they release the greatest player in franchise history coming off of a 5,000 yard season? If someone says, cap they should be publicly shamed. You never release cornerstones. You release everyone else first. It's the dumbest suggestion since Skelton for Mario.

I don't think there is any chance the Saints move on from him. But if they do, then hell yeah I would want him. Anyone who says "but he's an indoor QB" or "his arm isn't strong enough for the weather" really needs to take into account that we really only have one or two bad weather games a year.

Its a discussion forum. The post is generating a discussion. Rather than tear the guy down, why not discuss it a bit. Its the offseason, what else is there if not discussing scenarios such as this.

Agreed. Way too many haters here. Such a shame.

FYI if Brees is avail via trade/free agency, you sign him immediately.

There is a lot going on behind the scenes with this team........

Its not an ordinary situation

Sure....its unlikely.....

It is ordinary- they can get under the cap without cutting anybody.

Their GM has openly discussed that last year was the year they felt the crunch and this year isn't worrisome. Remember last year when they signed one of the biggest free agents? He's calling that tighter than this year. There are rumors next years cap will be nearly $160m and the saints are banking on shifting money into future years.

(Manning goes to saints for low salary + part ownership)(release Brees)= (lowered cap + keeping hope alive)

I dont even know if that is legal, but that's the only equation i can think of in which Brees becomes available.

And it's not legal Edited by NoSaint

Why not bring up threads that could actually happen vs. these fantasies that have no basis in reality?

Now with their cap problems, there is a very outside chance we could pick up Julius Thomas as a stud TE or Lupati to shore up the line.

Those pick ups are still long chances but based in reality. Not, how about Bree's, Manning, Rodgers, and so on.
