Wow. wow wow wow wow wow. "Marrone lined players up on one sideline and ripped into them for fighting. At one point, defensive end Jerry Hughes talked back to Marrone, leading to more shouting from Marrone in Hughes' direction, questioning him about whether he wanted to stay on the team. Players then ran sprints across the field in an apparent act of discipline. Looking directly at Hughes, Marrone used several profanities in telling the player to stop complaining. "Why can't you handle it as players?" Marrone yelled. He then motioned toward the locker room and said: "Do you want to play on this team?" Once again looking at Hughes, Marrone said: "If you've got a problem with me, you need to come and tell me."" Season appears to be spiraling out of control and it's not even week 3... OF THE PRESEASON!!! truly unbelievable. Can't remember things being this much of a train wreck since we fired our OC (can't even remember his name now, AVP?) before week 1 of the 09 season, then promptly had our hearts ripped out by new england week 1 on mnf. coincidently that season, we lost the hall of fame game, won our second preseason game, and then spiraled out of control for the final 3 preseason contests, with the offense looking terrible--blanked in the second to last preseason game, which led to the dismissal of the oc. things are looking eerily similar--but come all ye faithful, tell me why we're going to go 11-5 this year. actually, I'm going to adjust my win prediction from 4-12 to 2-14 right now. offense: can't score any points defense: lost it's 2 best players and only coordinator to have us playing good on that side of the ball since fewel special teams: worst in the year last year, retained the coach, thinking about keeping a kick off specialist? overall team: hates the coaching staff now, and must be wondering when the hell they can get out of buffalo, know marrone is a lame duck coach soon to be replaced by new owner, and their spot on the team is not a given. train wreck city boys--train wreck city. I actually love it. Marrone showing some balls. Hell, this what most of us as fans want to do to the players when they show a lack of dedication. I absolutely love it. Jackson publicly not happy about spending 4 days in Pitt., now the Hughes comment. Without trying to overreact it seems like he's losing control. When Freddy said something it got me thinking. Apparently, the offense is not where he thought it would be. Hopefully it gets better, but given our 20 year history, I have some really negative feelings. Btw, he isn't a hard a** all the time. He breaks them down when he needs to and then builds them back up. Urban Meyer does the same thing. Not sure why it is so crazy to see a coach with high expectations. The players need to change, not him. Understood. And while it's Marrone's job to win games, the balance of power has shifted from management to players over the years. That's an undeniable fact, considering the recent CBA which gained concessions in terms of how many practices could be conducted, with and without pads. And let's not compare apples to oranges because Urban Meyer's situation is completely different. First, he's coaching college guys who don't have the luxury of a guaranteed paycheck to fall back on (and which upper management has to consider). And second, he's got an excellent track record. Marrone isn't in the college ranks anymore and, as I've pointed out, doesn't have the credibility to bank on. And while we're talking about hard a** coaches, look no further than Tom Coughlin. He's at the top of the list, and even guys like Michael Strahan have said he changed a little during his early years with NYG. This isn't a black and white issue, but clearly there's an issue here, and as someone asked, how much of that is Schwartz's effect on the defense? I'd be more interested in their discipline when the games actually count and if they go down to an opponent early. Still, it's amazing that a player like Jerry Hughes, with all of 1 decent NFL season, has no qualms criticizing the head coach in front of the whole team. Reading between the lines, if one guy feels that way it's likely there are others. That's not good. Point is, it's one thing for a Tom Coughlin to run his guys. Even as the new HC for NYG he at least had been deep in the playoffs. But Marrone doesn't have that kind of track record and his act is not going over well. It's not just the Bills who need to eliminate the losing culture, it's the HC who needs to earn his reputation as well. And that remains to be seen. You make a good point, but I will side with the Coach on this. This team has been too often guilty of accepting inferior results. That attitude is infectious and it shows in their play. I am glad he is not coddling these guys and accepting poor effort and excuses like "training camp has been hard. Poor me!" Too bad. Suck it up or get out. It is the right message I think. Knowing far too little maybe you shouldn't be reading between the lines. B.) Tom Coughlin was hired by the Jags in 1995 their first year. His hard ass approach got them to the playoffs in year 2,3, and 4. The latter they went to the AFC title game. Before that he was a college coach, sound familiar? Meaning, i really don't have a problem with a soft team, known for being soft, having things be just a bit harder for them. This isn't "Cool Hand Luke" so let's not be overly dramatic...This is an extra few days of practice in an area and a time of year where the heat gets up into the (wait for it, wait for it) upper 70s. A fight broke out, the coach doesn't like it and one of the players opened his mouth. You don't respect me, you don't like working this long, you guys can't discipline yourselves? ...then run. Jumpin-Jiminey, I mean I like a lot of these players, but the Bills have been a team of candy asses for years. It permeates the very uniform they play in. DefenseWinzChampionshipz Posted August 21, 2014 Share Posted August 21, 2014 (edited) yeah i remember before 2009, when we fired avp from his oc job, there were many who thought "that would solve everything", and it was a step in the right direction for the season. it's over man... it's over. it's not just like these guys got into a shoving match in an isolated incident. they've been fighting for weeks. marrone has been imploring them not to. they continue to fight. marrone runs them into the ground and blows up at them. hughes talks back at him. we have a lame duck coach, an offensive coordinator who can't get the ball to our best weapons, a qb who can't read the field, and a division with tom brady. let's start talking about 2015. we'll be playing the nfc east cowboys and giants at home, eagles and skins on the road and the afc south texans and colts at home, titans and jags on the road finishing last in our division should also net us games against the browns and the raiders assuming we have a new qb under center, and a good coach, that looks like a schedule that could legitimately yield a wild card. Two questions. How old are you and how long have you been a Bills fan. I ask because I felt the way you feel but like 10 years ago. The Bills losing hurts me still but not like the way it seems to be affecting you. You gotta relax bro. These guys go home and live "regular" lives (spending time with family, playing PS4, going to the movies, Facebook, Twitter etc.) after a game. Don't let them losing take you out the game (of life). Marrone is trying to change a culture here. Why is this a bad thing? How is this a sign of losing the team? If anything this sends a message my way or the highway. Just ask Stevie (one of my fav bills mind you), I mean it's not like we are the broncos or Seahawks and have a winning culture that is being shake up. Things need to change and a lot of the "leaders" we do have, have not experienced winning and need something to help snap them out of this.
