  1. Word outta Chicago is Nate Peterman is tearing it up in OTAs. Matt Eberflus, while he didn’t say it verbatim… or even allude to it in any way… nonetheless, has given off body language that suggests he believes he very well be the next Sid Luckman.
  2. I'd probably go all defense and say: London Fletcher - replace Edmunds or Milano Aaron Schobel - replace Epenesa or Basham Nate Clements - Put him across from White while Elam learns Larry Centers could be interesting... he caught 80 passes in 2001 as a FB!
  3. Nate Clements hit on Tom Brady? When? I didn't know he was gay.
  4. That hit was probably why Brady wanted to crush Buffalo every time he played us. Thanks! Nate!
  5. Nate Clements was a missile in a uniform. Winfield and Clements was a heck of a defensive backfield for us. It's always fun to see some of those highlights.
  6. That was my first thought. I just read an article about the rise of the mid to lower-tier player as a commentator and in the media. Pat McAfee and Nate Burleson are two of the best media personalities out there and neither is an HOF player. The networks keep trying to get the big names, but a guy like Fitz with his character, sense of humor and knowledge of the game, not to mention knowledge of the inner workings of 11 franchises and all those players over the years, would be far more enjoyable to listen to A Harvard Man?
  7. Brady mentions that Nate’s hit was the worst he’s ever taken. Hey, it’s not much, but I’ll take it. I know there’s a few more but at least someone from the Bills did something noteworthy against Brady. Go Nate! Go Bills!
  8. 1985 came right to mind for me too. Incredible draft. I always wonder what would have happened if Derrick Burroughs did not get injured and have to retire in Houston. Nate Odomes and Derrick Burroughs would have been a nice 1-2 CB combo for the Super Bowl runs. Attitude with Chris Burkett. Burkett (pick 46) and Reed (pick 86) were drafted to be weapons for Kelly and eventually replace Jerry Butler, who was an excellent WR, but was starting to age a bit (28 in 1985). Burkett scoffed at his use and playing time/ targets in Buffalo if I recall correctly, and ended up being traded to the Jets where his career crashed and burned. Burkett was becoming another very good weapon and the K Gun with Reed/ Lofton and Burkett would have been even more dangerous. A lot of what iffs in that draft on top of 2 HOF guys who earned Canton in Bills uniforms.
  9. I would add Nate Odomes and who-ever else we played with at the time (Kirby Jackson or Thomas Smith), to the list of top pairs. Odomes was good enough to be in the conversation. I think the best tandem, when normalized for the time period, was Byrd and Edgerson. Why? Byrd is on the Second team All Time AFL team. Edgerson was also an all star and he shut down HOF receiver Lance Allworth, twice in Championship game victories for Buffalo. That said the game has changed a lot. The old time CBs could play bump and run, this allowed contact until the ball was thrown. Robert James buried many receivers at or near the line of scrimmage, forcing the QB to look elsewhere. Today CB is really hard to play well. WRs are the elite athletes of game and the rules favor their success.
  10. I don’t know, I think the thread title should just be “Nate Herbig”…imagine the intrigue…the eye traffic that would generate would be amazing…
  11. This is a guy that I hope Beane goes after. Right up the Bills alley too. Need a Guard who can compete for a starting job or replace Saffold in a year. Only 23 years old. Think he got caught up in the Eagles interior o-line numbers game after the draft. I would actually offer him a 3 year deal and let him compete. He can also play Center
  12. I don't know about that. Peterman vs the Bills secondary. Tre will be back at this point. It sounds like a mismatch to me. If Von and company get a strong pass rush on him then forget about it. RIP Nate.
  13. I can't see that one being flexed. The Bears are one boring ass bad football team. Although it would be fun to watch Nate Peterman play against the Bills defense.
  14. IIRC from posts here from Nate fans , Nate is at the top 2% of his profession and that he just needed time to hone his craft before breaking out . Perhaps he learned from the QB guru Gruden and is finally going to make his mark.
  15. I've got to hand it to old plucky Peterman. I thought it was incredible that the Raiders took a chance on him. It's unfathomable that he's still in the NFL, on a 3rd team nonetheless. He's officially better than Nick Foles as far as the Bears are concerned. Man, how much has Foles been a complete disappointment the last oh 7 years of his career or so? The one gigantic difference between the two however is that Foles certainly knows how to take money from teams. Peterman has pretty shockingly low career earnings figures for a QB. Nate just wants to be a good boy and excel in the pre-season for very little money apparently.
  16. I think that’s the big miss a lot of people have. The media circus that will follow wherever he goes is a big pain for the whole team. I also highly doubt he’d sign with Chicago even if they offered decent money. He’s not taking fields job, and even if the kid got hurt there’s almost no talent on that offense. Also like to add maybe Nate isn’t a starting quarterback, but he’s a vet who has sat behind Derek carr and been in the film room with him for years now. Fields is in his second year and learning a new playbook. Maybe Nate has eyes on coaching or value off the field in the film room. Matt Barkley wasn’t a very positive signing on here the first time around but I’d venture to guess he helped Josh quite a bit during film.
  17. Schobel was part of the 2001 Bills draft class— the first for Tom Donahoe. It was one of the best Bills’ drafts in the last 25 years. TD traded down in the first round and got Nate Clements. With the extra pick he got, he drafted Travis Henry in the 2nd round. He got Schobel in that round also. Also drafted Jonas Jennings in the 3rd, who became a starting LT, Ron Edwards— a solid rotational DL—, and Marques Sullivan— a solid starting guard. Even Brandon Spoon (later round pick) showed a ton of promise and started his rookie year— career was lost due to bad injury.
  18. Now this guy can win games for ya here, Nate Peterman- John Gruden
  19. I used to feel bad, but can't help but think the guy is more fortunate, than unlucky at this point. How many guys throw 5 picks in a half of football and have nearly $5 million in career earnings to show for it? You don't like to see a nice guy like Nate become the punchline that he is, but he's got a loving family and a load of cash compared to most working stiffs. I doubt he's feeling sorry for himself.
  20. (13) Tom Pelissero on Twitter: "Free-agent QB Nathan Peterman is signing a one-year contract with the #Bears, per source. Peterman — who opened the 2018 season as the #Bills’ starter ahead of Josh Allen — spent the last few seasons with the #Raiders. Now, he joins Justin Fields and Trevor Siemian in Chicago." / Twitter
  21. Oh boo hoo. Schoebel is no different than Phil Hanson, Jim Ritcher, Shane Conlan, Joe Devlin, Nate Odems, Henry Jones, Ted Washington, Will Wolford....
  22. There are usually some surprises, like teams we thought would be good but turn out to be average or worse. Cleveland and Denver are candidates for that, in my opinion. Denver seriously upgraded on paper, but they play in a tough division with a new head coach (do we really believe in Nate Hackett?) and a lot of new faces. With Cleveland, even if Watson isn't suspended, he has been out of football for a year and Cleveland usually finds ways to underperform. The Chargers are hyped every year but find ways to lose. Herbert is great, but we could see a similar story as last year. It's going to be an exciting year in the AFC. It will be really interesting to see which teams rise to the top and which ones got over hyped.
  23. Kyler Gordon is Trent McDuffie's teammate at U-Dub. I compared McDuffie to Antoine Winfield and I'll extend that comparison to Gordon reminding me of Winfield's old teammate Nate Clements. Gordon is not as good an athlete as Clements (who is?) but has a similar profile as an exceptional blend of size, strength, and speed. Gordon was expected by many to blow up the combine drills but he ran only the 40 in a somewhat disappointing 4.52 and skipped the other drills. At the combine his heavily muscled frame was obvious and made me think that he would benefit from losing weight and playing leaner. He measured just under 6' and weighed 195 pounds and looked above his fighting weight to me. Still the game tape shows explosive quickness and excellent game speed. He seems to play well in both zone and man and with good coaching (a given with McFrazier) and pro training I think Gordon's ceiling is pretty high. Unlike most I would be good with Gordon at #25 and I like him ahead of McDuffie because I believe he has a higher ceiling, if a lower floor.
  24. Toss in the 90s we seemingly took CB at the end of the 1st year after year after year with Thomas Smith, Jeff Burris and then Antoine Winfield, Nate Clements etc. With all the money we're spending we may need to keep our picks to get cheap depth to develop especially with guys like Poyer, Hyde aging and Stafford on a one year rental.
